Mental Health Advocate Jobs

To deliver information and advice to older people in Lewisham on benefit entitlements, housing and community care.

This involves managing cases and working with clients one-to-one to identify their goals, provide relevant advice and options, and then empower them to carry out next steps.

The role is to be carried out in our office premises as well as at home visits for clients who are housebound.

Job Purpose: To undertake individual sessions and group work with men and women who have been mandated by Courts to engage in behavioural change support and/or attend a Domestic Abuse Perpetrator Programme. The purpose of this role is to move the perpetrator along the spectrum of awareness; acceptance of impact; desire to change; so they are ready to meaningfully engage in behavioural change. To liaise with the Drive Partnership Triage team, actively contribute to risk management procedures and team working. This role includes working with clients through individual programme delivery as well as group work and will work with perpetrators whose victims have been identified through all levels of risk.

The Domestic Abuse Protection Order (DAPO) is a civil order that was legislated for in the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, the aim of which is to provide longer-term protection to victims of domestic abuse. DAPOs can be applied for in all court jurisdictions by the victim, police or a third party.

DAPOs can impose both prohibitions and positive requirements on perpetrators. Positive requirements can be in the form of interventions aimed at reducing and managing risk, mandated by Court to address issues or needs related to factors that are not the causation of abuse but impact on risk. These could include engaging with Mental Health services, Substance Misuse services or attending a Perpetrator-Focused Domestic Abuse behaviour change programme. 

Our involvement:
As a key local partner TLC: Talk, Listen, Change supported Greater Manchester Police’s application to be part of the pilot and we are now commissioned by the Drive Partnership to enhance our existing locally commissioned voluntary perpetrator behaviour change programmes as part of the DAPO pilot. We are seeking to expand our existing Domestic Abuse Prevention Team to support the pilot. The Home Office are funding a two year pilot which will be tested and evaluated in order to prepare for national roll out in 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

Interagency work 

• Work to embed the Domestic Abuse Prevention role into multi-agency responses to domestic abuse in the area
• Effective understanding and implementation of institutional advocacy by pro-socially challenging partner agencies, acknowledging best practice and striving for change to benefit the individual, the service and the sector. 
• Working closely with other professionals to ensure that risk management and safeguarding duties are effectively met. 
• Develop and maintain effective partnership working with statutory, private and voluntary agencies to address the issue of domestic abuse. 
• Represent the service at operational multi-agency meetings, feeding back initiatives and outcomes to the team and contribute to the evaluation of the quality of activities these services offer. 
• Provide a single point of proactive and regular contact for a range of professionals involved in the case of the service user. 

Client work 

• To conduct abuse prevention work with men and women in a way that shows an understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on partners, ex partners and children.
• To facilitate or co-facilitate a structured abuse prevention individual or group work programme for men or women who have been abusive towards an (ex) partner. 
• To liaise with the Drive Partnership Triage team to assess suitability for the abuse prevention programme, based on DAPO pilot requirements and the Domestic Abuse Prevention Programme’s aims and criteria.
• To conduct both individual and group work with clients dependent on need/programme suitability.
• To implement actions agreed in risk reviews.
• To assist in presentations or workshops about the DAPO* Pilot
• To take part in risk review meetings with other Domestic Abuse Prevention workers regarding the progress of perpetrators and issues arising from work with partners, in order to ensure that partners, ex partners and children's safety remains at the forefront of the Domestic Abuse Prevention Programme’s work.
• To provide day-to-day support, advice and back-up to other workers and/or volunteers.

Administration 

• To assist with collecting information needed for monitoring purposes.
• To provide assistance in producing statistical and other reports on work done to meet the requirements of funders and the Board of Trustees and co-operating in the on-going evaluation of TLC: Talk Listen Change.
• To maintain appropriate client records, keeping accurate client notes and making use of TLC: Talk, Listen, Change’s case management system. 

• To undertake outcome monitoring and evaluation questionnaires using the Domestic Abuse Prevention Programme service outcomes framework

  Other

• To work across multiple delivery sites, main sites to be agreed upon job offer with occasional cover necessary across Greater Manchester. 
• To participate in developing policy, strategies, and working practices of TLC: Talk Listen Change by attending meetings and giving feedback as appropriate to others doing this work.
• To conduct all work in a way that reflects the aims and principles of TLC, Talk Listen Change in particular TLC, Talk Listen Change policies on Equal Opportunities and Confidentiality.
• To keep up to date with domestic abuse issues and participate in relevant training as required.
• To undertake other duties as reasonably requested.

The Policy Communications Officer will assist in increasing the visibility of Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) to external audiences, with a particular focus on influencing key political stakeholders, such as the next UK government, to support policy change.

The Policy Communications team sits within the Communications Department but works closely and collaboratively with the Policy and Public Affairs Department to maximise the success and influence of their work by gaining cut-through with key audiences and inspiring positive, urgent action. This is a varied role, covering areas across diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The postholder will also assist with efforts to shape public health policy around dementia, including dementia risk reduction and brain health messaging.

The postholder will develop engaging and compelling content for a range of communications channels, with the aim of developing the charity’s voice as an expert commentator on dementia policy and establishing the charity as a thought leader in the UK.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

· Working with the Policy Communications Manager to lead on the creation and delivery of communications and content to support ARUK's policy and public affairs activity, working through multiple channels including national media, newsletters, website content and social media.

· Develop effective relationships with ARUK’s Communications Department, Policy & Public Affairs Department, and with external stakeholders and partners, in order to identify and deliver on communications needs.

· Help find, develop and pitch news stories, press releases, thought leadership pieces and other content to national press on ARUK’s policy and public affairs activity, bringing the charity’s expertise and key messages to the forefront.

· Support the running of ARUK’s press office by co-ordinating responses to breaking news stories relating to relevant dementia policy developments, including drafting reactive comments, briefing spokespeople and accompanying spokespeople to interviews when appropriate.

· Monitor relevant media coverage; keep up to date with policy, social, scientific and charitable sector issues which could benefit, or have relevance to, ARUK.

· Assist with the organisation and delivery of events, including ARUK’s research conference and events in parliament.

· Develop effective working relationships with relevant members of the media, government and NHS communications contacts; respond promptly to queries, including occasional out-of-hours queries.

· Work with the Public Affairs team to build on existing relationships with ARUK’s campaigners and parliamentary advocates, developing engaging content to strengthen our communications with these groups.

· Work with the Internal Communications team to create and disseminate materials to support staff across the organisation in engaging their stakeholders and the wider public with ARUK's policy and public affairs work, including toolkits and Q&As.

· Liaise with the Social Media team to develop compelling content in support of the charity’s policy and public affairs work.

· Ensure activities comply with ARUK’s branding and style guide.

· Undertake any other relevant duties and projects delegated by the Policy Communications Manager in line with the responsibilities of the post. 

What we are looking for:

· Educated to degree level in related subject or equivalent level of experience.

· Experience of working with national media on health/science or policy issues.

· Experience of working with external stakeholders and partners.

· Experience of delivering communications programmes through a variety of media (e.g. press, social media, email, events).

· Confidence working with computers; knowledge of Microsoft office packages and databases, good keyboard skills.

· Understanding of the UK political landscape, its potential impact on health policy and the role communication plays in policy change.

· Excellent journalistic skills and news sense.

· Ability to understand and translate complex policy into consumable communications for journalists and the public.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.

· Excellent organisational skills; the ability to manage many tasks with internal and external stakeholders to multiple deadlines.

· Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with a broad range of people, including journalists, policymakers, representatives from partner organisations, and people affected by dementia.

· A confident and friendly manner; would feel at ease representing the charity to a range of audiences.

· Working with independence, intelligence, drive and initiative.

· Willingness and ability to travel independently in the UK and to work outside of regular office hours when needed.

Additional Information:

Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

About the role 

Demand for support for people experiencing homelessness is changing and we have a vacancy in our front facing Engagement and Assessment service.  

This service provides first line support to people experiencing homelessness, assessing their needs, identifying support, and working with other staff and services to address their homelessness.  

We need someone to join this team as a receptionist to increase our capacity to respond to new and existing members of Crisis.  

As the first point of contact, our Engagement and Assessment service greets individuals who are experiencing homelessness or facing a risk of homelessness. You will be working in a fast paced and often challenging environment, explaining and guiding people through the Crisis service offer, and signposting to other local support services. You will need to create a welcoming and encouraging environment, to ensure that people seeking support feel understood and respected.  

No two days are the same, and you will be greeting people, helping signpost to appropriate services, and responding to telephone and email enquires in a positive and supportive way. This is a key role as you will be part of a members journey out of homelessness, right from their first presentation.  

About you 

As a receptionist you have a real opportunity to demonstrate your compassion and empathy for people experiencing homelessness as our first point of contact at Crisis.  

Sometimes visitors are distressed by their situation and this role would suit someone who is both resilient and compassionate.  

You will need to have strong communication skills, be able to listen and respond even when people are demonstrating their distress through their language and behaviour. This is where you will demonstrate confidence in your ability to assertively challenge inappropriate behaviour and de-escalate conflict.  

You will develop professional relationships with our members who regularly attend and become part of their progression out of the most difficult of personal circumstances. Our current team tell us how rewarding and motivating this can be.  

You will need to be able to help manage the reception area, spot potential concerns and safety issues and respond to these to ensure that reception is a safe space for new and existing members, and other colleagues.  

You will have experience of working with vulnerable people, balancing this together with an excellent level of customer service, IT skills and an ability to accurately record sensitive information.  

You will be interested in evolving your skills and playing an active role as we continue to develop our Engagement and Assessment service further.

About us

Women and Girls Network (WGN) was established in 1987 and has spent over 30 years supporting women and girls across London affected by gendered violence. This includes childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape, prostitution (including trafficking and sexual exploitation), female genital mutilation (FGM), and so-called ‘honour’ based crimes such as forced marriage.

About the role

We are excited to be advertising this newly created role as part of WGN’s growth. This role will be the lead on the finance function. Reporting into the Director of Finance and Resources, the role works closely with stakeholders across the organisation including executive leadership, with a specific focus on working closely with the Director and external auditors. The role will have two direct reports – Finance Business Partner and Finance Officer. This is a hands-on role and will have full responsibility for the finance function on a day to day and medium-term basis. The Financial Controller is to lead on all financial systems set up and upgrades.

Role Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the management and development of the Finance Business Partner and Finance Officer.
• Preparing the year-end statutory accounts and liaising with external auditors.

Pete’s Dragons is an award-winning charity which provides postvention support to those affected by suicide.

As the Charity continues to grow we need to increase the number of Suicide Bereavement Specialists who provide the Charity's postvention offering across our Devon offices.

Job Summary

The role of the Suicide Bereavement Specialist is to provide a proactive and timely community-based support to individuals, families, groups and/or communities who have experienced a suicide loss.

The hours for this role are flexible, with 24 hours/week being the minimum.

*Please note: Ability to travel and your own car is an essential part of this role.

Main duties

Support

Offer a sensitive, compassionate and needs-led service to individuals, families, groups or communities affected or bereaved by suicide.

Offer rapid response (within 48 hours), information and support to individuals, families, groups or communities who have been bereaved by suicide, in their home or other agreed settings, and follow with ongoing practical and emotional support; mainly through non-clinical interventions that promote coping and resilience so our beneficiaries can face and overcome their traumatic bereavement.

Exercise good judgement in assessing each case and establishing the most appropriate steps for ongoing support, signposting or onward referral.

Co-ordinate where necessary, a safeguarding response in line with local practices and services to ensure that an individual is safe and has an organised package of care to ensure they survive their crisis in the most helpful manner for them.

Produce an area-specific suicide bereavement resources pack to include all relevant information on support services and processes following a suicide death.

Develop strong relationships with key agencies and first responders in the area to establish ways to connect bereaved individuals in a timely and helpful manner (e.g. police, emergency services, clergy, child services, coroners, funeral directors).

Contribute to critical incident responses where appropriate and take an active role where possible.

Assist with the early identification of potential suicide connected deaths and liaise with the Pete’s Dragons suicide surveillance team and appropriate stakeholders and relevant agencies, to ensure timely and appropriate coordinated responses.

Undertake collaborative multidisciplinary work to uphold safety and support for the communities of need (e.g. working with school staff, mental health staff, peers, or family members) to ensure they are contained by well-informed communities.

Administration

Work internally with the Senior Management Team, suicide bereavement colleagues, placement counsellors and therapists and in conjunction with external agencies to ensure parity of service across the whole of the County of Devon.

Maintain timely administrative updates on the Pete’s Dragons’ case management system.

Maintain an effective and efficient diary of appointments.

Participate in the implementation and promotion of the Devon Suicide Prevention Implementation Plan and understand how the role of both the Suicide Bereavement Specialist and Pete’s Dragons fits within it.

Contribute to training/awareness raising in suicide bereavement.

Gather and report on all qualitative and quantitative data required in relation to monthly activities and casework.

Adhere to all Pete’s Dragons’ policies and procedures and ensure security and confidentiality of all related data.

Job Summary

The National Distribution Centre (NDC) Manager role is key in ensuring a resilient supply chain for St John Ambulance. Responsible for the implementation and management of the systems, process and people working within the NDC warehouse. The NDC manager is accountable for ensuring that stock is received, stored, managed, and dispatched appropriately including quality control checks as required. The NDC warehouse manager is responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures are complied with, and all required training is completed by the personnel working within the NDC. • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent (Grade C) including Maths & English

Our Little Stars project for 0–12-year-olds has been established for over 5 years supporting younger members and their families with their diagnosis and beyond. We also have a growing Teen membership known as FIRE (Friendship, Independence, Resilience, Equality) Working alongside our multi skilled, established team, you will be supporting members across all age groups and building on the great foundations already in place. 

We are looking for an Early Intervention Project Worker who can cover the South of England, primarily you will be home based, supporting members through phone calls and using online platforms.  You will be required to attend clinics, events and meet members one to one where necessary within your allocated area and occasionally across wider areas and nationally.

• To deliver Shine's Little Stars (funded by The National Lottery Community Fund) project for 0–12-year-olds, supporting early years and younger members with their families, their diagnosis and beyond across the Southern Region.
