We’re a small, creative and fast-growing charity that was established from inside The Economist in 2012. We support children, aged 10 to 16, from under-served backgrounds to develop essential skills for the modern world. We do this by enabling them to join inspiring discussions about the news, which teach them to think critically, communicate effectively and understand global issues. 

Our activities

Our programme, Topical Talk, brings about these discussions in four ways:

• We create world-class teaching resources for classroom discussions about global news stories
• We run Topical Talk Festival: the only news festival for young people. Children from countries all over the world join discussions with each other and global experts; and they work towards publishing their opinions in written, audio and film format for the chance to win awards 
• We offer Topical Talk Prizes: collections of resources for a series in-depth discussions about a big global issue or theme, following which students submit their work for the chance to win prizes
• We train and support teachers to bring high-quality news discussions into their classrooms; including through intensive, in-person community partnerships in the UK, US and Nigeria

Our impact

Children who take part in Topical Talk can make seven times more progress compared to their peers in creativity, problem-solving, open-minded listening and confident speaking. These skills are linked with better outcomes at school, in employment and as citizens. Our programme has received international recognition, including by HundrED as one of the top 100 educational initiatives of 2020 and 2021, and as first-prize winner of the UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Awards 2022.

Our ambitions

We are at an exciting point in our trajectory. We have demonstrated huge growth potential, going from a small UK pilot in 2013 to working with thousands of teachers globally today, including on-the-ground work in the UK and US. There is still an enormous unmet need, so we have bold plans to reach one million children in 2026, with 100,000 engaging on a weekly basis. 

THE ROLE 

We’re looking for a qualified teacher or ex-teacher who is excited to play a hands-on role in our team, training and building relationships with Topical Talk teachers in the UK and internationally.

You’ll be responsible, alongside our Teacher Engagement and Development Lead, for supporting teachers to get the most from Topical Talk programmes. You’ll do this by building strong relationships with a range of individual teachers, school groups (for example multi-academy trusts) and organisations. You'll be confident communicating with and motivating teachers, and delivering inspiring teacher training in a range of settings in the UK and internationally. You’ll also work directly with 10- to 16-year-old students on a regular basis, to model lessons to teachers, deliver workshops and facilitate online discussions. 

From time to time you will work with our content team to give input into the creation of interactive lessons on news topics. You’ll share ideas for class activities or topics, join idea-generation and feedback sessions, and occasionally draft lessons yourself.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and deliver teacher training and support to maximise impact of Topical Talk (40%)

• Work with the Teacher Engagement and Development Lead to design and deliver online and in-person teacher training that supports and inspires teachers to run Topical Talk lessons regularly
• Visit schools to observe, and occasionally teach, Topical Talk lessons
• Collect data, such as case studies and progress reports, to help evaluate the impact of Topical Talk 
• Test and evaluate different approaches to teacher support in order to continually improve how we work with teachers

Engage students with Topical Talk lessons (30%)

• Deliver inspiring workshops and lessons about the news to young people aged 10 to 16 globally
• Co-plan and present Live Lessons to a global audience
• Facilitate online discussions between young people during Topical Talk Festivals 
• Collaborate with the content team to share ideas, give feedback and occasionally draft lessons about the news

Build and nurture effective relationships with teachers, school groups and organisations (30%) 

• Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, local education authorities, school districts or multi-academy trusts, to make Topical Talk a long-term success in the schools 
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of Topical Talk in depth in these schools or communities, using evidence to recommend programme-wide changes
• Work with the Head of Marketing and Teacher Engagement Development Lead to recruit schools to participate in Topical Talk Festival, liaising with teachers and persistently following up as needed
• Support teachers to get ready to participate in the Topical Talk Festival, including briefing them, guiding them through the sign-up process and answering their questions / troubleshooting

This role will involve international travel so a valid passport is required. It also involves working with young people, so you will need to have an enhanced DBS check (which The Foundation will organise).

• A proven track record of planning, analysing and reporting on projects

About the role:

Every year thousands of students volunteer to build communities around activities and social issues that are meaningful to them. These volunteer student leaders have a huge impact on the student experience of thousands more of their peers, as well as hundreds of people in the University’s local community. The Student Development Team aims to create opportunities for students to build and participate in communities that are inclusive, sustainable, ambitious, and impactful, and the Senior Volunteer Coordinator will play a key role in achieving this vision for our student leadership programmes.

In collaboration with a second Senior Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll be leading on a series of volunteering programmes that we’re really proud of. Since September 2023, student volunteers have raised over £150,000 for charitable causes, given over 2,800 hours of their time to volunteer directly in the local community, and broadcast an award-winning radio station, among other achievements. As the Senior Volunteer Coordinator you will coordinate the onboarding, skills development, and tailored support for volunteer student leaders who, in turn, coordinate their own volunteer teams. Who are Women’s Aid?

Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations which provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. For almost 50 years we have campaigned on behalf of our members and survivors to shape policy and practice, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse.

Purpose of the Public Affairs Officer role: 

As the Public Affairs Officer in the External Affairs team at Women’s Aid, you will play a pivotal role in our government and parliamentary engagement work. This will include leading on monitoring parliamentary activity and identifying opportunities for Women’s Aid to influence the political agenda and ensure parliamentarians are kept up to date on issues related to domestic abuse. You will play a pivotal role in supporting our influencing work with the new government on key pieces of legislation, Women’s Aid’s next big campaign and assisting Women’s Aid’s secretariat role to the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Domestic Violence and Abuse. Alongside organising meetings and events for the APPG and with key political stakeholders, you will lead on the development of public affairs and campaigns materials, including policy bulletins, briefings, speaking notes and letters to government ministers.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Public Affairs Officer:

• Carry out regular political monitoring, keeping the team updated with important developments for Women’s Aid, identifying opportunities for influence and providing analysis on policy announcements.
• Draft newsletters, correspondence, and website and social media content for parliamentarians, Women’s Aid’s member services and campaigners on a range of campaign and policy priorities.
• Support Women’s Aid’s work on key pieces of legislation - responding to queries, drafting briefings and parliamentary questions, working with Parliamentarians on draft amendments, and the development of joint sector work.
• Lead on projects that widen participation in Women’s Aid public affairs and campaigning work, including organising meetings with sector colleagues, survivors, and our member services.

What we are looking for in our Public Affairs Officer:

• Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write copy for a range of audiences and formats, e.g., briefings, consultation submissions, correspondence and speaking notes.
• Experience of working in a political role or exposure within parliamentary institutions.
• Experience in liaising and working with external organisations and individuals, including via correspondence and joint working groups/joint sector meetings.

Purpose of the Post
To lead insight and impact of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector across Bradford District and Craven, including developing and managing the Impact and Insight function for the VCS Alliance. To ensure the work of the VCSE sector is founded on good insight and that the impact can be presented clearly to wide range of audiences across the Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership system. You will work in partnership with data and intelligence colleagues in Public Health and the NHS, promoting equitable outcomes for all community members.

Duties and Responsibilities

• To lead, on behalf of the VCSE sector, and in collaboration with system partners, the development of a shared set of metrics to measure the impact of the sector’s work, particularly in taking pressure off front line health and care services.
• Lead the development and implementation of an approach to demonstrate the impact of the work of VCS partners and their contribution to reducing inequalities.
• Work in collaboration with other voluntary sector infrastructure partners and their data and insight leads to help develop a joined up and collaborative approach to impact and insights across and on behalf of the VCSE sector.
• Develop, maintain and manage good relationships with a broad range of partners including, Local Authority, NHS partners, VCSE partners.
• Gather local, national, and international insight and learning to help inform investment decisions and the evolution of the VCS Alliance and its delivery partners’ work.
• Provide insight and learning for VCS Alliance staff, and VCSE advocates across the health and care system, to help them inform, advocate, influence and/or inspire.
• Present insights to a wide range of audiences, which includes senior leaders from different sectors, for a range of purposes including informing, advocating, influencing, and inspiring.
• To work in collaboration with system partners, including ICB and public health staff, to access relevant data that be translated into insight required to demonstrate impact of the VCSA and its delivery partners and wider VCSE organisations.
• Support the monitoring, learning, evaluation of programmes for the VCS Alliance and its delivery partners.
• Produce regular reports which help demonstrate the impact and learning of the work of the VCS Alliance and its delivery partners.
• Support the continued development of insight collection methods across a variety of projects.
• Engage in insight and impact conversations on behalf of the VCS Alliance with colleagues with similar roles across the BDC ICB system and the wider VCSE sector.
• Liaise with external evaluation agencies as required, ensuring that their insight is integrated within the VCS Alliance impact and insight system.
• Assist the Operations Director in managing all aspects of GDPR on behalf of the VCS Alliance, including acting in the role of Caldicott Guardian.

General Requirements

• Undertake personal training as required.
• Attend regular supervision sessions and staff meetings.
• Support general VCSA administration by handling inquiries via the telephone, email and drop-ins.
• Provide relevant information for VCSA’s newsletter/s, mailings, website and social media.
• Comply with all organisational policies and procedures.
• Promote VCSA with all stakeholders during the duties of your work.
• Undertake any other duties prescribed by your line manager.

Special conditions
As part of this role, you will be required to work and travel across the Bradford District and Craven. While the VCS Alliance supports hybrid working, there is an expectation that you will be based at the office for at least two days per week.

Main duties and responsibilities

 Technology provision

- To co-ordinate the application and consultation process for children’s palliative care services invited to apply for new packages of technology.

- To create documentation annually to capture all equipment requests, costings and associated partnership agreements.

- To co-ordinate technology installation schedules and liaise with Lifelites Champions to ensure efficient project delivery.

- To produce handouts and user guides for installation and ongoing training sessions aligned to Lifelites technology installation schedule.

- To attend and support the delivery of events, installations and Lifelites functions and represent Lifelites within children’s palliative care settings and forums.

- To provide administrative support for new technology pilots and other innovation activity.

- To support the development of Lifelites 25th anniversary activities, which are currently in development.

Learning and development

- To respond to training requests and co-ordinate installation and ongoing face-to-face training by liaising with Lifelites Champions, Lifelites Trainer and Head of Services to book dates and prepare training itineraries.

- To co-ordinate Lifelites Super User events including venue bookings, scheduling and training providers.

- To capture and monitor training feedback and prepare briefings for Head of Services and Trainer.

- To support the development and implementation of Lifelites e-learning platform, including course modules, interactive learning and activity ideas.

Partner engagement

- To support ongoing quality improvement by delivering regular account calls, responding to queries and maintaining up to date contact information for Lifelites Champions and other key stakeholders.

- To co-ordinate monitoring activity with partners including training feedback, annual surveys and case studies.

- To liaise with the Communications & Marketing Officer to create and publish information relating to services for newsletters and social media.

General

- To comply with Lifelites policies and procedures at all times.

Romsey Cancer Support Centre (Jane Scarth House) is a registered charity that has been providing practical support since 1995 to anyone whose life is affected by cancer. For the last 10 years we have operated as a completely independent charity.

Jane Scarth House, in the centre of Romsey, is a walk-in centre providing emotional and practical support with all services provided free of charge. Only a couple of hundred yards from Jane Scarth House is Jane’s, the charity’s shop, whose profits are used solely to help fund the services from Jane Scarth House.

The Operations Manager will lead on the development and review of policies and procedures and the implementation and use of technology/systems to enhance our effectiveness. They will also ensure our processes are compliant with regulatory/financial controls and be able to oversee facilities and infrastructure.

This part-time (0.5) role is based in Jane Scarth House with some flexibility to work from home at times.

AIMS / PURPOSE OF THE POST

To ensure that services are delivered in accordance with appropriate clinical standards and protocols such as The Survivors Trust, BACP and any specific requirements from the Management Committee, funders and commissioners.

To manage the helpline service by ensuring that the helpline volunteers provide consistent support and an effective service on the helpline. In addition, to be responsible for facilitating the provision of regular supervision sessions, ongoing support and reflective practice, ensuring best practice and assessing the performance of service delivery.

To line manage staff members. Responsible for annual appraisals, ongoing monitoring of performance, identifying and providing relevant training and managing HR issues.

To facilitate the recruitment, induction and training of new staff members.

To identify and organise regular training and personal development opportunities for staff and volunteers.

To oversee marketing activities and the use of social media to promote awareness of Trust House’s services and increase engagement.

To research relevant funding opportunities and produce bespoke grant applications. Identify qualitative and quantitative data and extract relevant information from the database, Lamplight. Produce written progress reports to funders evidencing best practice and using collated data on project progress and outcomes.

MAIN DUTIES

The Services Coordinator is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

• To coordinate the effective delivery of Trust House’s clinical services;

• To produce and keep up to date all resources and best practice policies and procedures;

The role:

We are looking for an organised and enthusiastic team player to deliver high quality support to the Events Manager in the planning and delivery of a range of onsite and online meetings, events and courses.  This will necessitate maintaining effective administration systems and working with databases, websites and social media.

Reporting to the Events Manager, the Events Assistant will provide administrative and event delivery support for events in the planning of physical and/or virtual meetings, events and courses. This will include general support tasks pre-event, onsite and post-event including sourcing and liaising with venues, producing event marketing and communications and coordinating event material.  The postholder will join our Events Manager and Events Assistant – bringing the Events Team to three people.

This role requires exceptional organisational skills, a meticulous eye for accuracy, high levels of customer service and the ability to deliver multiple projects in a timely manner.  Also essential is a flexible, ‘hands-on’ approach and a willingness to help out in all areas of the Association potentially including attending and assisting at events which will require overnight stays at locations throughout the UK.
