The Food Chain exists to ensure people living with HIV in London can access the nutrition they need to get well, stay well and lead healthy, independent lives. We deliver meals, groceries and formula milk, run cookery and nutrition classes, and hold twice-weekly communal meals for some of the most vulnerable and isolated people living with HIV in London.
We are the only HIV Nutrition specialist charity in the UK: we exist at the intersection between HIV, food poverty and social isolation. Everyone accessing our services is referred by a health or social care professional who has identified that they are experiencing crisis. Each person receives a personalised Dietetic Assessment from one of our HIV Specialist Dietitians, designed specifically to meet their needs. By offering a tailored package of support, at the appropriate time, we help people to lead healthy, independent lives.
The Grants and Fundraising Manager will work closely with the CEO in order to ensure that income is secured to enable the delivery and sustainability of our services and activities. Taking the lead on applications to trusts and grant giving organisations, the successful candidate will also work with our fundraising working group (made up of staff, trustees and volunteers) to maximise diverse income generation strategies on a community and individual level.
Since we were formed on Christmas Day 1988, The Food Chain has delivered food services to people living with HIV every week since. We were founded by volunteers, and are proud that volunteers are still key to the deliver of our charitable services. The Food Chain family is vast - it’s not at all uncommon for us to be out fundraising and someone run up to us with a shout of “Food Chain! I volunteered for you in 1994!”
Position: Grants and Fundraising Manager
Responsible to: CEO
Location: Flexible and remote working is offered to all staff. We have an office in Caledonian Road, London, and we deliver some services in Stepney Green. We envisage this role being hybrid.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full-time), core hours of 9.00am–5.30pm but flexible and part-time working hours will be considered.
Salary: £36,000 per annum

Purpose:
• To implement a successful programme of fundraising from trust and other grant making bodies to ensure the sustainability of The Food Chain Services
• To work with the CEO and Trustees to implement fundraising initiatives including community fundraising, engagement with corporate and individual donors
Key Activities & Accountabilities:
Income generation
• Research, prepare and submit high quality applications for core and project funding to Charitable Trusts and Foundations, corporate bodies and other partners as required to meet the charity’s core purpose
• Maintain a realistic pipeline of existing and potential applications for all funding streams.
• Maintain and develop positive relationships with existing Trust funders, donors and other supporters of The Food Chain as appropriate
• Ensure timely acknowledgement of income to all donors and accurate and comprehensive donor and income records on the Salesforce CRM.
• Ensure that accurate and engaging funder reports are written and provided to the funder on time.
• Ensure that record keeping relating to all fundraising activity is accurate, up to date and timely, using Salesforce CRM
• Ensure that all necessary reporting to all funders is of a high quality and submitted in a timely manner.
• To work with the Trustee Fundraising Sub-Group providing support providing facilitation to the group including researching prospective donors and implementing action plans.
• Develop and implement fundraising initiatives to increase support from, and enhance our profile with all potential donors, including corporate partners and individuals.
Financial management
• Understand the organizational budget, to identify gaps in funding and opportunities for fundraising.
• Support the CEO in Monitoring cash flow forecasts and the budget against actuals and bring any major variations in planned income and grant payments for discussion to the CEO.
• Write, review and update fundraising policies and procedures as and when required
• Support the annual audit process to ensure it is carried out effectively and in a timely manner.
Communications and external relationships
• Sustain effective communication with potential donors and other stakeholders to increase opportunities for giving.
• Support in developing and promoting The Food Chain’s public profile, and influence and foster good relationships through liaison with statutory, voluntary and private bodies, Food Chain members, volunteers, patrons, supporters and the public.

The Baobab Centre is a non-residential therapeutic community that supports young asylum seekers and refugees who have experienced human rights abuses and have sought asylum in the UK as unaccompanied minors. Our two focus areas are rehabilitation and justice.
This is a unique opportunity for a passionate and experienced fundraiser to progress further in their career, with the freedom to creatively enhance and develop the fundraising strategy of an impactful community-based charity.
As Senior Fundraising Lead you will be Baobab’s key fundraiser and a self-starter with experience of working in a small or medium sized charity. You will lead on the development of fundraising at Baobab, exploring new avenues for funding, as well as nurturing and growing existing fundraising relationships. You will be responsible for strategising and carrying out a successful program of fundraising from small, medium and large charitable trusts and foundations to an agreed annual fundraising target. You will also assist in delivering Baobab’s individual major donor programme, helping to set up and deliver communications and events related to this income stream. You will play a central role and work closely with our operations team, as well as recieving expert monthly mentoring from a senoir fundraising consultant.
This role is for 4 or 5 days per week depending on your preference, it will include Fridays which is when staff meetings are held.

Responsibilities
- Lead and innovate UK fundraising efforts, focusing on major donors and corporates.

About the Role:
As the Trusts & Foundations Manager you will be responsible for generating income from grant making trusts and foundations.
You will take the lead on seeking out new prospects and nurturing existing relationships to significantly grow income. You will achieve this by researching sources of funding, devising individually tailored applications, maintaining excellent communications with existing and potential donor trusts and foundations, delivering an agreed income target as well as growing funding from these sources.
We are happy to consider people who want to work full-time (35 hours), or four days per week (28 hours).
Here's a summary of your key responsibilities:
- Proactively identify and research new and pipeline trust, lottery and statutory fundraising opportunities and progress them to application stage.
- Developing the trust and foundation pipeline to generate new income and multiyear grants
- To lead the development of new fundraising proposals for priority fundraising projects, including potential research partnership opportunities where MQ collaborates on a joint bid with another institution
- To carry out targeted and systematic research to establish new high value prospects utilising existing networks, the MQ database, search engines and referrals
- Build long-term relationships with new and prospect trust, lottery and statutory donors, including through meetings, attendance at conferences and events, regular update
- calls/comms and – when possible – direct face-to-face engagement.
- Report on performance against agreed budgets and targets
- Capitalise on the expertise and networks of MQ’s senior volunteers, including working closely with MQ Trustees and other Development Team colleagues to maximise existing opportunities for introductions, including the Lord Mayor’s Appeal
About You:
This role is for you if you are an experienced trusts and foundations fundraiser, with good knowledge of the sector. You'll have demonstrable experience of securing five and six figure grants to achieve annual income targets, both through stewarding existing supporters and through researching and cultivating a pipeline of new opportunities.
You will also be skilled in understanding and translating complex information and turning it in to compelling written proposals, for grants, corporate partnerships and major donors.
We do require someone who is proactive, hardworking and results-orientated.
Essential role requirements include:
- Experience of trusts and foundation fundraising and able to demonstrate continual growth in expertise and results in this area.
- Good understanding of the trusts and foundations fundraising environment and associated processes and different types of grant making bodies.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write concise and inspiring funding applications and to make presentations.
- Creative thinker, with ability to identify funding opportunities and match them with the right trusts.
- Good interpersonal, influencing and relationship-management skills, at all levels.
- Ability to work as part of a team and spot opportunities to grow and develop relationships for the good of the organisation.
You will be driven to ensure that projects are delivered to the highest possible standards and be a sophisticated communicator with the confidence to build relationships with and inspire colleagues and donors.

- Flexible working: As a mental health charity, staff wellbeing is of paramount importance. We operate a core hours policy (10-4) to encourage flexible working and staff are mainly home based with the requirement to come into the office two days per week. A standard full-time working week is 35 hours, plus an hour for lunch breaks.
- Holidays: Annual holiday entitlement of 28 days plus bank holidays.

Roles and Responsibilities
