We are recruiting three new trustees to help steer our organisation through its next chapter of growth. As board members, IRMO trustees play a vital role in supporting our organisation to broaden its reach and impact, bringing valuable and varied expertise to the table.

Our vision is a future where Latin Americans and other Spanish and Portuguese speakers living in the UK have equal rights, live free from poverty and discrimination, and feel empowered to pursue their aspirations.
Our mission is to enable the development, agency, and participation of all Latin Americans and other Spanish and Portuguese speakers, by responding to both immediate needs and structural inequalities.
We do this by offering high-quality information and advice services, opportunities for development and training, and a platform to seek social and systemic change. Our work is organized across three main operational areas—Advice and Casework, education, Training and Employment, and children and Young People—and a crosscutting area: Advocacy, Research, and Campaigning.
With 40 years of experience, we support over 4,000 people every year.
Being a Trustee
IRMO’s Board of Trustees is made up of six to nine Trustees, who work together to ensure the charity is run properly. As a trustee, you will have the opportunity to support IRMO’s strategic development and oversee its finances. Trustees meet every two months (usually online in the evening) and are asked to commit an additional eight to ten hours between meetings to follow up on actions and provide advice and input on strategic documents and areas of work relevant to their areas of expertise.
General Responsibilities
- Stay up to date with and assess the political, economic and social contexts that affect IRMO’s work
- Support the development of and approve IRMO’s key strategic documents
- Annually review and approve IRMO’s budget
- Review, update and approve major policies
- Approve salaries, benefits, terms and conditions for staff
- Ensure that IRMO’s financial structure is adequate for its current needs and long-term strategy
- Ensure that the organisation has the necessary resources in place to meet its long-term goals
- Ensure that the Board of Trustees is adequately informed of the condition of the organisation and its operations
- Ensure that published reports adequately reflect the nature of the services and the financial condition of the organisation
- Approve major actions of the organisation, such as capital expenditure over authorised limits and major changes in activities and services
- Review staff results in relation to IRMO’s aims and objectives, as well as annual and long-term goals
- Appoint, supervise, support, and appraise IRMO’s Director
- Provide candid and constructive criticism, advice, comments and praise
- Ensure that the Director has established appropriate policies to define and identify conflicts of interest throughout the organisation and are administering and enforcing those policies
- Appoint independent examiners/auditors subject to approval by members
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation affecting the organisation
- Annually review the performance of the Board of Trustees and take steps to improve its performance

We are looking for a new Trustee to join our welcoming and dynamic team at an exciting time and to make a meaningful difference through our work supporting disabled people to live with greater independence.
Designability is a national charity who for over 50 years have created equality of opportunity for disabled people, by removing barriers to independence, enabling them to live the life they choose.
Following a person-centred design approach, and by including disabled people at each point of the design process, we ensure their ideas and lived experiences are taken onboard and that what we create reflects people’s needs as well as products and services they want to use. We are best known for the iconic Wizzybug powered wheelchairs for very young disabled children. To date, they have been loaned to over 1,400 children, typically aged between 14 months and 5 years, across the UK completed free of charge thanks to the support of our generous donors.
Designability has a strong leadership team and we appointed a new Chief Executive at the beginning of 2024 who has over 20 years of experience as a founder, leader and consultant in a wide range of start-ups, commercial, public sector and not-for-profit environments. As we come the end of the first year of an ambitious three-year strategy, we are in a strong financial position with healthy reserves, and celebrated the end of 2023 with a highly successful televised BBC Lifeline Appeal demonstrating the impact of our work to a new and wider audience.
Having reviewed the skills, experience and diversity of current trustees, we would welcome candidates with experience in the following area:
Clinical expertise with experience of working with disabled people. This could include experience gained through a senior position in occupational therapy, physiotherapy or rehabilitation engineering or rehabilitation medicine.
Working as a team, trustees have three main responsibilities:
· To set a clear direction for Designability.
· To make sure that the charity’s plans are being carried out appropriately.
· To ensure that the charity meets its legal responsibilities .
All new trustees take part in an induction programme with the Chief Executive and Directors of each department and are offered ongoing training and support.
You will be joining an independent, national charity based in Bath. Our creative and inspiring team includes engineers, technicians, product designers, occupational therapists, fundraisers and administrators. - Ensuring that the accounts are scrutinised in the manner required (independent examination or audit) and any recommendations are implemented.
- Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.
- Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation.
- Ensuring the accounts are presented in a coherent and easily understandable way in our annual review.
- Sitting on appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary panels as required.

Community Education delivers free confidence-building workshops to young people, and we would love for you to help us in our mission to empower communities to become more resilient.
We are looking for individuals who:
- Ideally, have availability to deliver at least one workshop each week, and having flexibility with their availability would also be advantageous (workshops usually run on weekdays between 9am and 5pm, with occasional opportunities in the evenings or at weekends)
- Lives in the Hastings area to help us promote our work in the local community.
- Ideally, can do this role for at least 12 months, 8 hrs per month
- Are willing to undertake all the required training for this role
- Are willing to travel up to an hour each way, to reach workshop venues, and who are able to carry learning materials or lightweight training equipment with them

- IT literate, confident to deliver workshops independently after completion of in-house training, living in the local area and willing to be the face of British Red Cross Community Education by promoting our workshops in their community
- Driving is preferable but not essential

The Dementia Wellbeing Service provides practical and emotional support to help older people live independently and safely at home for as long as possible, stay socially engaged, and carry on doing what they love. The service supports Camden residents over the age of 55 in the early or moderate stages of dementia. The coordinator works with the client, their family, or carers to produce a personalised wellbeing plan.

We are particularly keen this time to recruit Trustees with relevant lived experience, such as care leavers and kinship carers.

We are also particularly interested in recruiting a Treasurer. As the organisation grows and receives more funding, it is important that we have a Trustee experienced in financial management, who can oversee the accounts and budgets as well as advising on the financial implications of the new strategic plan.
Role on Trustee board:

To oversee the strategic development and growth of the charity in line with its aims and objectives.

Commitment required:
We meet as a Board every two months, usually on a Tuesday at 5pm for 2 hours. The Trustees will be provided with the relevant papers in advance of meetings, preparation and reading for the meeting usually takes about an hour.
There is an expectation that Trustees are available for 80% of these meetings (ie 5 per year) and to undertake agreed tasks outside of these times. The monthly commitment is approximately 6 hours per month, including meetings and meeting preparation.
The Trustees also meet twice a year in person at Roots, usually in the spring for half a day and autumn for a full day.
We are seeking Trustees that will also be visible and engage in activities at certain times of the year, for example celebrating successes, supporting activities such as trips with young people and be public facing where agreed to promote the organisation. One Trustee per month is expected to visit Roots, for visibility and to help support the staff and young people.

Trustees will be entitled to mileage allowance and other reasonable expenses to attend meetings in person and take part in agreed activities.

We are looking for volunteers who have a keen eye for detail, an interest in fashion and a passion for supporting sustainability to join our retail team across 31st October and 1st November at University of Salford.
Tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Set up/replenishment – setting up rails, tidy and replenish stock.
- Marketing support – hand out flyers, create social posts and other support spreading the word about the event and Newlife.
- Fitting room advisor – welcome customers in to the fitting rooms, check them in and advise on outfits, obtain other sizes for customers.
- Cash desk – helping pack and sign customers up to Newlife Style Card.
All volunteers will receive a volunteer discount of 20% that can be used on any item of stock during the two days that the pop up store is running – which is a bonus on top of our already discounted prices!
You will be provided with the relevant training appropriate for your role and will be supported by our experienced retail team.
The pop up will be open from 10am – 5pm on day one (set up from 8am) and from 10am – 4pm on day two. For this role, we required a minimum commitment of one shift.

About This Role
An opportunity for a young person, with little or no previous Board experience, is now available to join our Group Board as a Young Person Trustee. Smart Works is led by a Group Board of passionate and dedicated Trustees, as well as the Trustees of six local Boards across the country, who are responsible for the governance and strategic direction of Smart Works. The position has been created in the interests of reflecting our own client base (data tells us that young women aged 16-24 are the most challenged when it comes to finding employment), as well as our responsibility to train the next generation of Trustees for our sector.

A fantastic opportunity to join this grant making charity based in Fulham which helps people and organisations in Fulham. The charity has been in existance for over 400 years old and we are looking for two new Trustes to join the board. We are looking for people who either have a lived experience of living with need in Fulham or they work closely with people in the Fulham community who are living with need, through either a paid or voluntary capacity. In April 2022, Smart Works launched a new Three-Year Plan that will see the charity double the number of women helped annually from 5,000 to 10,000 women a year. To achieve this, we will grow our existing centres and open new centres in areas of need. We are well on the way to achieving our goals.
About This Role
We are seeking up to 3 new trustees to join our Group Board. Smart Works is led by a Group Board of passionate and dedicated trustees, who are responsible for the governance and strategic direction of Smart Works. We also work closely with our 6 local Boards across the country.

The role of trustee is hugely rewarding, challenging and enjoyable in equal measure.”
Our current skills audit illustrates that we are particularly looking for candidates with expert skills in the fields of commercial property, fundraising and employment support (for example, organisations that regularly refer to Smart Works). By drawing on their expertise, the successful candidates will be able to advise Smart Works as it looks to develop and expand in these areas.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview after 30th September. The process will be led by the Nominations Committee. There will be a shortlisting process followed by two rounds of interviews with formal approval to take place at the Board meeting in October.
References and a Basic DBS check will be taken up prior to appointment.
