FareShare Midlands is the region’s largest food redistribution charity. We take good-to-eat surplus food from the food industry and get it to our Members - frontline charities and community groups all over the Midlands. We turn an environmental problem into a social solution.

Last year we redistributed almost 5,794 tonnes of food from our warehouses in Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham. It is sorted and stored by our dedicated teams of staff and volunteers, and then redistributed to around 800 Members including food pantries and cafes, homeless shelters and drop-in centres.

These local organisations turn the food into food parcels, affordable shopping and delicious meals for people of all ages. As well as food, our Members provide vital support to families and the elderly, many of whom are facing challenging circumstances and living in poverty.

Last year our food reached more than 83,000 vulnerable people every week, providing 13 million meals. At the same time, we are growing our Employability Programmes to help people gain work experience, skills and jobs.

The Role

FareShare Midlands is a high-profile charity with stakeholders from varying sectors not least over 500 companies in the food industry and FareShare UK.  You will work towards, and achieve, a best-in-class in operation not accepting standards or a service that falls short of this.

As the senior person on site, you will be the key point of contact for operations, logistics and stock allocation for your region. You will be responsible for all compliance issues including food hygiene, health & safety and security of the depot and the safety and wellbeing of all visitors, contractors, depot staff and volunteers.

The main role will be to lead the successful day to day operations and ensure the ongoing success of the FareShare Midlands Regional Centres. This will involve working closely with staff and volunteers to ensure that all activities, including operational and order processing are completed to the agreed standard & daily timetable.

With colleagues in the Supply chain & Development functions, you will help develop new operational/logistic activity and lead on the implementation of growth of your RCs activity, capacity and output.

You will report to the Senior Operations Manager and will be a key member of the Operations team across the Midlands region. You will identify and share good practise within and outside the Midlands, working closely with colleagues in the other regional centres.

In agreement with the Senior Operations Manager, you will set out relevant Ops KPIs and targets and will join daily calls and weekly meetings to discuss and help resolve issues across the Midlands region, working as ‘one team’ with colleagues from other functions and regions.

Opening times:

Over the week the depot will be open for the hours required, with staff working 37.5 hours per week which may include working in evenings and weekends on a rota basis if the performance and growth of the region requires it. You will work with the Senior Operations Manager to implement the shift patterns required to provide the service to our members and communities.

Main responsibilities

Job responsibilities will prioritise but not be limited to:

1. Operations:

· Co-ordinate the work schedule and daily activities of the depot, within the guidelines of FareShare Midlands policies and procedures on food safety and Health & Safety

· Be responsible for the supervision, development, and training of all staff & volunteers

· Ensure that all shifts are efficiently planned, controlled, and resourced at least a week in advance.

· Maintain and use the in-house stock management system, with responsibility for the training of depot staff and volunteers on the database and accuracy of stock.  Maintain good relations and communications with food suppliers and community member recipient projects, responding to any complaints or service issues with pace and courtesy as set out in our Service Charter

· Ensure that the vans are maintained as roadworthy and legal (taxed and insured)

· Ensure that community food members in your region receive a service, supply and variety of food that is expected / agreed, working closely with the Member Services Manager to flag potential issues with supply and/or service

2. Health & Safety, Food Hygiene & Equal Opportunities:

· Be responsible for the Health & Safety and security of the operation, including warehouse, vehicles, staff, visitors, and volunteers

·  To support health and safety advisor in carrying out risk assessments

· Ensure compliance with all FareShare policies and procedures and industry standards as required by food donors and regulators, and maintain gold standard at audit level

· Ensure the service is delivered in accordance with FareShare Equal Opportunities Policy and maintain the values and culture of the FS Midlands operation.

3. Human Resources

· Lead & develop your direct reports on a day-to-day basis, ensuring that all are aware of their responsibilities and have the resources, capacity and capability to carry them out

· Be responsible for warehouse staff personal development reviews, regular 1-2-1 meetings and support as required

· Work with the Volunteer co-ordinator to recruit and train the right volunteers and other work placement trainees within the project

· Work alongside the volunteer team to ensure a complete and Up To Date rota is available at all times

· Supervise volunteers

Person Specification - Skills, Qualities & Experience

Essential

· Established (minimum 3 years) warehousing knowledge including managing Staff and Rotas.

· Depot management experience, managing stock control, payment reconciliation and putting all required warehouse processes in place.

· Relevant experience of working in the food industry, probably in a retail operations management or production management resulting in a strong understanding of all the core areas around operations, food safety, health and safety and good business practice.

· Stock management of perishable goods, putting processes and checks in place from goods in to goods out, creating stock count processes, managing stock rotation.

· Line management experience, including projects and associated budgets to time, to cost and to quality.

· Commercial experience; managing budgets, identifying cost savings, revenue generation and meeting KPI targets.

· Familiarity with and experience of working in CI or Lean culture including leading on review and improvement processes.

· Experience of developing and implementation of performance management systems for service delivery including monitoring and evaluation.

· Understanding of the voluntary and community sector and volunteering.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal with people at all levels building successful and productive relationships, both internally and externally.

· Facilitation, networking and group work skills and the ability to work successfully with groups of different sizes and backgrounds.

Public Policy Manager (12 Month Contract)

Job Profile

This role is responsible for ensuring that CAFOD has strong, well researched and robust policy positions across our core advocacy areas, including – but not limited to - climate, debt, food systems and aid. You will work with programmes colleagues to ensure CAFOD’s policy positions are strongly rooted in the experience of our overseas partners and promotes their voices and perspectives. This post will also provide support and advice to our international programmes on advocacy development, research and monitoring.

This role will also work closely with colleagues across UK Advocacy, Campaigns, Government Relations and Media to ensure CAFOD has credible advocacy plans which are effectively influencing decision-makers.  

The post holder will be responsible for line managing four policy posts and will be managed by the Director of Advocacy and Communications

Key Responsibilities

Ensure CAFOD’s policy and advocacy work is robust and rooted in the experience of our partners and provide support to international partners.

• Support the development of key policy positions across our advocacy areas and ensure these are developed strategically and take in to account the experience of our partners, Catholic Social Teaching and current political trends, both in the UK and domestically.
• Work cross-organisationally to help develop and deliver advocacy plans which are well targeted towards the appropriate decision makers.
• Working closely with relevant policy leads, take the lead on signing off public policy positions, statements and external briefs directed towards decision makers.
• Provide oversight of CAFOD’s policy positions and advocacy plans, ensuring consistency and balancing priorities to enable us to deliver across different thematic areas.  
• Work as part of the International Programme Leadership Team (IPLT) and its individual members to ensure strong links with the international programme and provide guidance, expertise and support for advocacy work across CAFODs programmes. Especially in support of our aim of local leadership and equitable partnerships.
• Work closely with international teams on the delivery of the Global Advocacy Programme on Food Systems and Land.
• Provide policy advice to the Director of CAFOD and other Executive members.

Work closely with other Teams to bring about change through CAFODs advocacy work.

• To be an active member of the Advocacy, Communications and Education Leadership Team. Through which priorities for our advocacy work will be discussed and agreed,planning, budgeting, reviewing, approving and managing change and ensuring effective communication across the Group

• Contribute to the formulation and implementation of joint advocacy strategies across the organisation working particularly closely with the Campaigns Outreach and Campaigns and External Networks Managers.

Develop CAFODs relationships with decision-makers and other organisations to best affect the change we’re seeking.

• Efficiently and effectively manage the budget and grants including planning, forecasting, monitoring and reporting
• Manage internal reporting on KPI’s, organisational outcomes and advocacy strategies to the Exec and Board.

As the Director of Finance and Corporate Services you will lead, support and develop a diverse team of enabling functions across the organisation, including Finance, People, EEDI, Governance, Estates and IT. You will ensure that these functions work effectively together, across Terrence Higgins Trust to support the delivery of the organisation's strategy and business plan. The organisation:

Terrence Higgins Trust is leading the campaign to end new HIV cases by 2030 and focuses its support services on those experiencing the greatest health inequalities. Founded in 1982 after the first named person to die of an AIDS-related illness, THT continues to be at the cutting edge of developments in the epidemic.

The organisation has a £10 million turnover, around 100 staff and over 120 volunteers and is working together to ensure the UK is the first country to stop the onwards transmission of HIV. That is no mean feat. We need the best people to join us in this endeavour. 

The key duties of the Director of Finance and Corporate Services are as follows:

• Lead on the implementation of corporate strategies, with appropriate strands for each enabling function so that they support the strategic and operational objectives.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the corporate services of THT at a senior level, representing the expertise, views and considerations of the various areas to the wider senior team.
• Be responsible for, and provide, the financial and governance expertise.
• Support the Chief Executive in all financial matters with the Board of Trustees and provide expert and practical financial input to its meetings.
• With the CEO, be responsible for the management of risk and ensure the charity has an appropriate risk framework.
• Develop strong relationships with THT managers and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of a credible and value-adding corporate services.
• Provide strategic guidance on the charity's approach to technology, drawing on external experts as necessary.
• Ensure that the budget, audit and financial reporting cycles and all payment processes are appropriately managed.

The successful candidate will have:

• Experience of working in a senior finance role and holding financial accountability.
• A relevant professional finance qualification.
• Some knowledge and experience of HR at a management level, or a willingness to develop this knowledge.
• Ability to engage with, and contribute to, strategic decision making.
• Experience of embedding new processes/systems and implementing organisational change.
• Ideally, a background working in the charity sector, although candidates without this are still strongly encouraged to apply.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

The position will officially be based at THT's offices in Islington, although there is potential for the right candidate to be based in Brighton, Glasgow or Cardiff. Opportunities to work from home are on offer for up to three days per week.

Our goal is to facilitate deep, meaningful partnerships between the school and the community it serves, ensuring that barriers to learning, particularly those related to academic attainment, behaviour, and attendance, are addressed effectively, and overcome.

About You:

As the Community Hub Leader, you will be the catalyst that kickstarts and enables the Nottingham Hub to evolve, develop and grow. We are looking for a Hub Leader who can plan and facilitate the development of activities and relationships, as well as be the driving force behind the creation of a thriving and supportive community. You'll work closely with school staff, parents, students, and variety of agencies, charities and civil society organisations to break down barriers to learning, ensuring every student can succeed academically and behaviourally by maintaining exceptional levels of attendance.

We’re on the lookout for a dynamic individual with experience in:

· Direct engagement with parents, carers and young people, understanding what interventions are required for them to reach their potential.

· Leading innovative, community-focused programmes and activities that make a real difference.

· Building and nurturing impactful partnerships with other agencies, charities, civil society organisations and businesses, as well as with the wider community, to create lasting change.

· Creating a safe and supportive environment that will allow the Hub to flourish and gain the confidence of families and the local community.
