Sightsavers is looking for a Legacy Manager - a vital role within our in-house Legacy team to manage and operate the administration of all legacies received by Sightsavers

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per year - depending upon experience

Location: UK remote - with occasional travel to Haywards Heath, West Sussex when required

Hours: This is a full-time role with some flexibility around hours worked and lots of home working

Each year Sightsavers receives over £10m from gifts in the wills of our generous supporters. Administering these gifts sensitively and professionally is vital for us to continue to grow this key income stream and eliminate avoidable blindness and promote the rights of people with disabilities through our work.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Head of Legacies, the Legacy Manager will manage and operate the administration of all legacies received by Sightsavers in the UK and Ireland, liaising with Executors, Solicitors, Trust Corporations, together with Legacy Managers/ Officers at other charities.

Key duties include:

• managing and developing our small, dedicated legacy team
• maximising potential funds for Sightsavers, whilst protecting the reputation of the charity
• optimising the collection of legacy income in line with current legal frameworks
• complying with internal and external audit and compliance requirements in relation to legacy administration
• providing a legal and advisory service through the Head of Function
• maintaining all case documentation and records
• responsibility for and managing of the Legacy Officer and Legacy Assistant

About you - skills and experience

We are looking for an individual with outstanding customer service and strong technical and influencing skills as well as bags of tact and diplomacy and a team ethos.  

You will have: 

• previous experience in Charity Legacy Management or equivalent areas of specialism in the legal sector, ideally with managerial responsibility, with the Institute of Legacy Management Certificate CICLA (Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration), STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) qualification or equivalent
• demonstrable experience of working in a senior position in the legacy department of a charity or Probate department of a firm of Solicitors, Bank or Trust Corporation
• good finance and accounting knowledge, particularly estate accounts, investment management and share valuations
• strong knowledge of relevant Charity Law legislation
• strong knowledge of relevant Probate and Trust Law and procedures
• working knowledge of GDPR
• experience of working with the FirstClass legacy management system (desirable)

The team mostly work from home however, our expectation is that we will need the successful candidate to be able to travel to the offices in Haywards Heath, West Sussex (RH16 3BW) at least once per quarter but there is also the option to work in the office for three days per week, working the other two days from home. It’s an easy 20-minute train journey from Brighton or 45 minutes from London. We’re located close to Haywards Heath rail station and on lots of bus routes. Please note that this role must be worked from within the UK.

Why Access Social Care Exists 

Every day millions of older and disabled people are denied the social care they need. Most local authorities can’t meet the growing demand for care, and none are confident they can meet their legal duties in the future. This affects all of us - we will all need social care at some point in our lives. 

We all have a right to hold public bodies to account, but most of us cannot afford lawyers so rely on legal aid. The 92% drop in legal aid cases since 2010 means that we have nowhere to turn. Without access to justice, our rights do not exist. The rule of law is broken. 

What we do 

Access Social Care provides free legal advice and information for people with social care needs, helping achieve a better quality of life. We work with communities to increase knowledge of the law and our rights. We highlight the gap left by cuts to Legal Aid and provide advice for those who can’t afford it. 

With a 98% success rate, our network of lawyers provide access to justice when things go wrong. We collaborate with social services whilst ensuring legal obligations are met. We are working towards a future where social care is adequately funded and we all get the support we need. 

We provide rights awareness training to front line managers, and legal advice and support to families and individuals. As well as providing access to justice, our aim is to drive system level change through evidence-led influencing and strategic casework.

About the role

This role is part of a project funded by the Justice Together Initiative working in conjunction with a number of partners across London including Young Roots, Centrepoint, CARAS, Enfield Social Services, SRLA and Citizens UK. The purpose of the role is to help children, young people and families understand their position and legal rights in relation to immigration and support them to take steps to realise their rights. The role involves the provision of one-off asylum, immigration and nationality law advice and follow-up work and the wider provision of legal education sessions and documentation to increase understanding and knowledge. This role is part of an immigration legal advice team, which seeks to get high-quality immigration legal advice into communities and to those who would otherwise be unable to access it.

The purpose of the role is to empower those in need of immigration, asylum and nationality law, and to work with them – as well as a range of partners – to win change to promote the rights of children and young people affected by UK immigration control. The role involves creating positive relationships with young people and involvement in promoting youth-led change.

The role is responsible for project co-ordination and delivery across immigration advice projects, including advice service design, partnership-building, project planning and meetings, system creation and maintenance, record-keeping, monitoring, internal and funder reporting and other project activities. The role supports CCLC in achieving advice service consistency, meeting targets and ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations.

About the role

The post is part of the Billing Project, an initiative by the London Legal Support Trust, funded by The Legal Education Foundation, aimed at providing specialist support to the free advice sector in London. The project focuses on improving legal aid billing practices to reduce the backlog of unbilled files, enhance cashflow, and maximise income from legal work under legal aid.

This is the fourth iteration of the project, building on the success of pilots launched in 2017.

This project is a collaborative effort between advice agencies. The Billing Coordinator(s) will be employed by the lead organisation and work across other host organisations, with the allocation of time between these organisations to be determined and agreed upon. The Billing Coordinator(s) will also collaborate with other billing professionals in the sector, some of whom have participated in previous pilot projects. Peer-to-peer support will be available to the postholder, and specialist training will be provided to anyone looking to grow within the role.

The purpose of the role is to develop systems that improve the efficiency of costing and billing legal aid files, and to provide a crucial coordination role within the organisations, supporting existing staff in ensuring files are billed promptly and accurately while maximising income from legal aid.

Reporting to: Financial Controller We are looking to bolster our finance team with the appointment of a Finance Manager , on an 18 month contract to support with the maternity cover of our Fees Accountant. This role will also driving process improvements and support with accurate VAT reporting as we navigate new legislation applied to all Independent Schools.

The role is suitable for a qualified accountant, who is proactive and enjoys a broad range of tasks, including transactional and reconciliation, and is proud to provide a high level of internal and external customer service.

Assisting departments with any queries relating to recharges and performing robust reconciliations to ensure all balances have been captured, chasing outstanding charges where necessary.

Prepare the monthly and termly direct debit collections for the collection of fees and additional charges.

Lead the weekly fee debtors meeting with the Financial Controller and Finance Director, adhering to internal policies and assigning escalation steps to ensure the timely recovery of all amounts contractually owing to College.

To support with the review of College bursary applications from prospective and current parents, ensuring all financial information provided agrees to supporting documentation.

Ensure a high level of customer service is provided to all parents and colleagues of College, by providing prompt and timely responses to all emails and phone calls in a professional and accurate manner.

We are recruiting for a Legal Clinic Manager (maternity cover) who will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the Dickson Poon School of Law’s award-winning clinic, King’s Legal Clinic (‘the Clinic’).  The Clinic aims to improve access to justice and educate King’s students by providing free legal advice to members of the public through its Legal Advice Clinic; and working with local and international organisations on research and justice projects.

The Clinic is a busy legal office and learning environment.  Clinic staff work closely and collaboratively with law students (curricular and extracurricular) and a range of internal and external stakeholders. 

About the role

The Legal Clinic Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of King’s Legal Clinic (‘the Clinic’), under the direction of the Clinic Director and Assistant Director. The Legal Clinic Manager has line management responsibility for the Legal Clinic Coordinator and Legal Clinic Administrator.

Daily Clinic activities include supervising students in the processing of potential client enquires across the in-house Legal clinics; suitability and conflict checks with law firm partners; allocation of cases to student advisors and internal and external supervisors; delivery and organisation of the Clinic’s research and justice projects and training program.

The Legal Clinic Manager is responsible for ensuring the Clinic works smoothly, efficiently and is a positive learning environment and workplace for students and Clinic staff.

The role holder must have excellent organisational, IT, project management, and communication skills.  An ability to relate to and work with a diverse range of students, partner organisations and clients. The position is likely to be of particular interest to a well-organised, proactive individual with experience of working in and managing in a legal environment and/or Higher Education with good academic qualifications. A background in legal practice and/or process improvement work, and demonstrable interest in access to justice is desirable.

The role is a full-time post (1FTE) offered on a 12 months fixed term contract, starting in the first week of July 2025 with the possibility of extension.  The role is based in King’s Legal Clinic (Strand Campus) and will require regular attendance on campus.  Some remote working is possible by prior agreement with the Clinic Director.

My renowned Arts sector client based in Central London are currently looking for an interim People Business Partner to cover maternity leave on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract starting at the end of May 2025. The role is ideally full time, hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 days remote) and will pay a salary of £48,666 per year.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of People, as one of 3 People Business Partners, you will be responsible for departments covering approximately 300 employees and will be dealing with restructure, employee relations and long-term sickness in the main.

The ideal candidate will have experience of leading on change management and employee relations, be collaborative and work well as part of a team with a firmness in character but also a flexible approach in seeing the "grey areas" of issues. This will be a "hands-on" role.

Public Interest Litigation Support (PILS) is a Belfast-based non-profit committed to supporting local organisations to use the law in a creative way to protect human rights and equality.

Now, PILS is looking for a Legal Support Manager to coordinate PILS’ membership network of law firms and NGOs, help them develop and submit applications for PILS’ services, and assist the PILS Director with legal casework. 

PILS is a membership organisation, offering a range of free legal and financial supports to our solicitor and NGO members to help them take strategic human rights & equality cases in the public interest. Public interest litigation refers to legal cases that will create positive change for vulnerable or disadvantaged groups of people in Northern Ireland. 

From our origins as a pilot project, PILS has matured into Northern Ireland’s dedicated support service for litigation in the public interest.

Since our project was founded in 2009, our membership network has grown to over 170 NGOs and solicitor firms. Through collaborating with these organisations, and connecting them with pro bono lawyers, PILS has been part of major legal success stories: from ‘game-changing’ judicial reviews on integrated education, seismic climate justice challenges, and multiple examples of holding public bodies to account. 

• This part-time post is being offered on a one-year fixed term contract with potential for extension subject to funding.

Job Description

The Head of Management Accounting will:

• Lead financial management and reporting for Districts/Departments, ensuring timely and accurate financial information for the Senior Command Team and Business Executive Leaders including revenue, grants, and capital income/expenditure.
• Produce and monitor budgets in line with Force timetables, providing assurance to the Senior Command Team and Business Executive Leaders on financial integrity.
• Strategic lead on the delivery of financial management, financial reporting and financial advice to the Districts/Departments budget holders and providing financial information to Senior Command Team and aligning financial decisions with the Force's goals and addressing financial risks.
• Responsible for all aspects of producing accurate and timely financial information for budget monitoring and budget setting in line with the Force's periodic timetable. Working closely with the Head of Finance and Chief Finance Officer to provide assurance to the to the Senior Command Team regarding the integrity of the Finance's finance position
• Driving efficiency's across with the team through ensuring that the line management responsibility model based on one to four/five ratio is fully embedded within the Finance Officers.
• Drive efficiency's by embedding a 1:4/5 line management ratio within Finance Officers, standardising procedures, and reducing reporting variability.
• Lead annual budget planning, working with senior leaders to ensure resource allocation aligns with strategic priorities.
• Challenge and support senior leaders to improve financial plans and achieve value for money.
• Implement performance frameworks, reviewing KPIs, and driving continuous improvement across the finance team.
• Manage the Management Accounting Team and Capital Accountant, prioritising tasks and fostering staff development.
• Promote teamwork and strong communication within the Finance team and with the Financial Accounting Team.
• Develop financial training for staff and senior leaders, improving financial literacy across the Force.
• Drive continuous improvement in financial management policies, procedures, and internal audit processes.
• Provide strategic financial support for key meetings, financial statements, and HMICFRS inspections.
• Oversee financial management of Grants, ensuring compliance with procedures and financial instructions.
• Lead bench-marking and networking to report financial data and identify efficiency's.
• Support financial management systems development, acting as the SME for the Oracle ERP system.
• Deputise for the Head of Finance on specialism areas and other duties as required.

The Successful Applicant

The successful Head of Management Accounting will be/have:

• Qualified Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (C.C.A.B.) or CIMA accountant.
• Significant experience in management accounting and strategic financial planning and working with a finance business partnering model to deliver the outcomes.
• Up to date with current accounting issues.
• Understand personal and professional strengths and development needs and be able to evidence the steps taken to enhance your continuing professional development.
• Ability to interpret complex or detailed legislation, policy or strategy documents to identify financial implications and provide insightful financial advice.
• Strong commercial acumen with the desire to help drive business performance and show the wider business how finance can add value on a day-to-day basis.
• Experience of advising, challenging, and negotiating with senior officers, managers, and budget holders in a confident manner.
• Ability to use a range of communication and influencing techniques to successfully negotiate,collaborate or effect change in relation to matters of a specialist / technical nature.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of building robust working relationships and establishing personal credibility with senior officers, managers, and budget holders.
• Demonstrate IT literacy including advanced Excel, with extensive experience of large, complex ERP systems.
• Open to change, intellectually curious and able to challenge existing thinking to initiate and embrace innovation.
• Excellent analytical skills and a creative approach to problem solving.
• Experience of leading and managing a team of professional staff in a highly pressurised environment.
• Ability to contribute to financial governance, compliance, scrutiny matters.

About the role

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, multi-skilled administrator to assist our busy teams in London.

The Legal Administrator will provide a range of essential office-based administrative support for the Legal Practice Unit and Migrant Children’s Project, the majority of whom are currently working in a hybrid pattern.  The priorities will be general administrative support: processing incoming and outgoing post, opening and closing files for clients; assistance with preparing court bundles; assistance with CCLC’s reception telephone line; communicating with internal and external departments; and assisting with any other legal or administrative tasks which may arise in order to fully support the team may also be required.

This is a great opportunity for an excellent administrator looking for a role in the charity sector and the prospect of developing a career in operations and business support.

The role would suit an organised and efficient individual with strong IT skills.  Whilst full training will be provided and support and supervision will be available, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to work independently and show initiative and problem solving skills.
