We are currently looking for a Media, PR & Digital Manager to join our team.
About the role
The Media, PR & Digital Manager leads and supports the delivery of flexible, cost-effective and class-leading media, marketing, and digital communications. This role ensures MSSC achieves its objectives across campaigns, fundraising and policy through targeted and effective profile building in the media and across multiple online platforms.
The post holder will manage media communications activities, delivered in-house or outsourced as appropriate, to meet the needs of MSSC while maintaining the charity’s image, values and stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities
Media & Public Relations
- Proactively explore national and regional opportunities for media coverage, establishing effective media links to raise the profile of the organisation.
- Lead and coordinate integrated media campaigns alongside digital marketing efforts for maximum impact and coverage.
- Support communication with MSSC’s internal and external stakeholders on sensitive media matters.
Marketing & Digital Communications
- Manage and coordinate the use of digital channels, including intranets, websites and social media.
- Lead the development and support of the DAMS (Marketing Hub) to facilitate effective brand and campaign management.
- Contribute to the production of high-quality, on-brand marketing materials, ensuring they meet deadlines and engage target audiences.
- Assist with website development and paid digital marketing campaigns.
- Develop and maintain MSSC’s social media channels and other digital communication platforms.
Requirements
- Degree graduate or equivalent and experience in a communications environment.
- Experience in a similar role.
- Experience in developing and maintaining good working relations with journalists and media specialists.
- Excellent written and verbal skills with good attention to detail.
- Understanding of principles of media, PR, social media and communications.

This year we launch a new three-year programme to achieve one of those key aims – raising the status of the early education profession, and we need a Campaign Manager to help us drive that work.
About the role

Hours: 30 hours (4 days per week). Some out-of-hours work may be required for which TOIL will be given.

Location: Homeworking, but within easy reach of London

Salary: £48,000 per annum FTE (£38,400 pro-rata)
Although we work remotely with a team that is spread nationwide, this role does require someone that is based in or close to London in order to deliver our Westminster programme of activities.
We work flexibly and it won’t come as a surprise to you that we understand the challenge of caring commitments. We trust you to manage your time, but we do expect that most of your hours are worked during standard office hours so that we can collaborate as a team and engage with our coalition partners. Our core working day is a Thursday. As a fully remote team this helps us to stay in touch and connect.
This role is initially offered on a two-year fixed term basis which we expect to renew in line with funding and is offered at four days per week. If you have a preferred working pattern, please speak to us and we would be happy to see if we can make it work.
The Coalition has experienced significant growth over the last two years and with early years firmly on the political agenda, we expect this to continue. Our hope is that this role will evolve and the successful candidate will continue to progress within this growing and impactful organisation.
For the last two years, the Coalition has been incubated by the Women’s Budget Group, the UK’s leading feminist economic think tank. Our growth means that we are now ready to spin out into a separate and independent legal entity. That means that your employment contract will initially be with WBG on behalf of the Coalition but will then transfer across to the newly constituted organisation. This won’t change your role, your terms or your pay, but we want to tell you now. We are happy to answer questions at interview about that.
What you can expect to be doing

Whilst the coalition currently has almost 40 core member organisations who shape our policy and lead on our shared campaigns, we are looking to grow our network of supporter organisations – these are partners who share our belief in the value of early education and childcare even if they do not work directly in early years policy. The Campaign Manager will lead a new project to identify, onboard, engage and grow this supporter network, ensuring they remain up to date with the latest research produced by the Coalition and its partners.

With the support of the Head of Advocacy and our external comms partner, develop a new narrative to raise the profile of the early education workforce and deliver a series of campaign moments across paid, earned and owned media to support this work.

Deliver ongoing comms and campaign projects designed to grow the coalition’s profile across a range of stakeholders.

Analyse and scope political developments related to the early education and childcare workforce, identifying opportunities to engage and influence.

Support the organisation of Coalition in person and online events.

Engage collaboratively with Coalition members to coordinate and amplify their collective and individual voices and work.

About you
You will be creative, resourceful and highly effective at building relationships across a wide range of stakeholders. Above all else, you’ll be as passionate as our members about the opportunity that the early years holds for children, families and wider society.
You will play a pivotal role in driving the aims of our new programme, delivering campaign moments that raise the status of early educators while amplifying our emerging research from this programme, and activating new messaging and narratives.
With the support of our Head of Advocacy & Communications, you will grow our network of supporters, securing the backing of organisations from across civil society, the business community and the public sector for our shared aims.
Ideally you will have a good working knowledge of the challenges facing the sector and a good understanding of key influencers in this space including think tanks, MPs and journalists.
You will be a confident communicator with strong writing skills and an eye for detail. The right candidate will be comfortable working in a small team where we all muck-in and benefit from each other’s skills.

You have extensive knowledge of different media channels and tactics, and your communication and relationship building skills are second to none. Sundial Centre for Education on Harmful Practices (“Sundial” previously called Oxford Against Cutting) delivers high quality education and training on harmful practices, such as female genital mutilation (FGM), ‘honour’-based abuse (HBA) and harmful body alterations. Job Description
The charity would like to increase our digital footprint by 50% and in order to do this we need a highly motivated communications lead to boost our profile. You will create and deliver a marketing, press and social media strategy, to increase both the reach of our work and awareness of harmful practices. You will build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including journalists, influencers and ambassadors to raise our visibility in both English and international languages in UK press, manage all our platforms and create digital content. You will work with the team and trustees to achieve desired outputs within agreed timeframes and budgets, to operational standards. Your work will be co-designed and informed by survivors and communities. You will operate under the principles of Do No Harm.
This role will be home-based and in Oxfordshire and will report to the CEO.
Person Specification
You will ideally be from a community affected by a harmful practice such as FGM/C or ‘honour’-based abuse and forced marriage. This does not necessarily mean you personally have been affected, but you have a deep understanding of the issues from living in your community.
Your knowledge of the topic:
You will need a strong understanding of violence against women and girls (VAWG), policy and legislation, ideally having experience working in the VAWG sector.
High level of organisation:

• Build an engagement plan for organisations receiving social change funding and set clear expectations around reporting and sharing evidence of impact. This could include regular briefings/meet-ups and a regular e-newsletter.
• Conduct regular on-site visits with funded projects capturing content.
• Develop, with support from an external consultant, a press strategy, which encompasses a strategy for reactive and proactive press, including promoting internal speakers.
• Support the programme manager with sharing information around social change funding rounds internally (internal comms)
• Build a reliable press list, including developing relationships with key journalists from relevant publications.

• Run quarterly webinars framed around our work in social change, which can act as a showcase for impact and that feed the funnel of people interested in social change funding or funding social change.

About your role
We are a small and ambitious early-stage organisation with two full-time team members. Our current objective: to help the 1 billion chickens raised annually in the UK. By joining us as a campaigner you will be both strategising and spending time on the frontlines, by talking to the biggest companies, producing investigative reports and giving media interviews. Your first task will be to help us convince the UK’s largest food businesses to improve their chicken welfare policies through public and behind-the-scenes advocacy. While this may sound challenging, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a historic change for those who cannot stand up for themselves. - Conduct research – you will spend many hours online gathering information, working with investigators and lawyers, or delivering 50 chicken products to a lab in Germany (we did this too).
- Create engaging content – you will produce emotive graphics and videos for social media, factual reports and data-driven briefings for journalists and politicians.

- Mobilise advocates – you will write emails to our supporters and motivate them to take action with us. You will also organise and run street actions like protests and stunts.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your experience and creativity to deliver an exciting digital, marketing and communications plan, including
Digital Marketing
Create engaging brand social media content and publishing it across our channels, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok.
Support services, fundraising and retail marketing on social media, including implementing paid-for advertising.
Create and edit photography and video content for our website and social media channels
Create and send out marketing emails using MailChimp and report on their performance.
Monitor responses on our social media channels, ensuring messages and comments are responded to in a timely manner.
Support our WordPress website, including updating pages and uploading posts and stories, and look for opportunities for search engine optimisation.
Monitor the performance of our WordPress website and ensure that senior managers are alerted to any issues that arise.
Communications
Write case studies, blogs and other written content, working with colleagues across the organisation.
Design posters, flyers, brochures and reports using Canva, ensuring they are within the SCT brand.
Ensure any materials adhere to SCT brand guidelines.
Retail marketing
Work in collaboration with charity retail colleagues to:
Develop collateral for SCT Shops and Social Enterprises, ensuring materials are high quality and within the SCT brand.
Ensure there is a regular flow of compelling social media content that creates customer loyalty and reaches new customers.
Other duties
Work with the Director of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications and colleagues across SCT on the implementation of our 60th anniversary campaign.
Maintain a marketing calendar and project plans using ASANA.
Work with the Director of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications on PR activities, engaging with journalists and the media, influencers and other stakeholders.
Work in collaboration with colleagues in SCT services teams.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
Digital Marketing
A minimum of two years managing social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Linked in.
A good understanding of GDPR legislation and how it relates to digital marketing.
Demonstratable experience of running a WordPress website, planning and uploading content and monitoring its performance
A demonstratable understanding of SEO and Google ads.
Demonstrable experience of managing paid for digital ads via Meta business manager.
Experience of producing creative and impactful social media content, including photography, video and audio materials.

What you’ll do
Leading our communications team, the Head of Communications is responsible for strategic and tactical communications activity at ShareAction, covering both traditional media and our digital team.
The role is key to ensuring our visibility and thought leadership and promoting our campaigning activity. Today’s news agenda is moving increasingly fast, and this role will be critical to ensuring that we keep on top of developments and the opportunities and risks that these present.
As the Head of Communications, you will lead the team to business partner with all functions of ShareAction, from campaigning on the European banking sector to policy advocacy and our presence at AGMs.
A usual week will see you scanning the landscape, advising on reputation and positioning on emerging issues, as well as overseeing the delivery of tactical media and digital outputs.
As part of this role, you will regularly be engaging with journalists and others in the media landscape using your skills to ensure coverage, enhance our reputation and influence the financial sector and real-world companies. You will help ShareAction work towards our vision by positioning us as a voice of authority and a highly effective campaigning organisation.

What you’ll bring to the team
We want to hear from you if you have experience across media and digital communications and, particularly, in strategic communications. The role is right for someone with skills in narrative building, a keen eye for avoiding jargon and the ability to communicate technical language clearly and succinctly.
We think this role would suit someone who has previous experience in a campaigning communications role and who enjoys telling powerful stories.
While we hope we’ll find someone with the majority of these skills and experience, we’re keen to hear from you even if you don’t have them all. We appreciate lots of skills are transferable, and we welcome opportunities to explore different ways of achieving our goals.

Job Purpose:
The main purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate communications activities across the Society’s policy and external affairs activities, ensuring that our work is communicated strategically and visible to appropriate audiences.
Key responsibilities:
Understanding opportunities and the changing external environment
- Develop our understanding of the preferences and needs of our key internal and external audiences to better align our policy and external affairs communications to those preferences and needs.
- Monitor and respond to emerging trends to ensure our communications channels and content for policy and external affairs remain timely and relevant.

Working for the RSS
Pension and benefits
Our defined contribution pension scheme can be joined after three months in post. Your contributions of up to 8% of salary will be double matched by the Society (making a maximum contribution by the Society of 16%). A training budget, season ticket loan, cycle to work scheme and employee assistance programme are also available.
Location
The RSS office is in central London. We offer flexible working arrangements, and this is a hybrid role with a minimum two days a week working in the office. In person attendance for certain meeting is required, including all-staff / team meetings and governance / committee meetings that take place in person. Limited travel within the UK and internationally may be required.
Working hours

Following a 3-month probation period, you will transition to a fixed-term contract. Upon successful completion of this term, you will be offered a permanent employment contract. A minimum salary of £39,695.24 gross (our salary base for people resident in the UK) will apply from the beginning of the probationary period. About your role
We are a small and ambitious early-stage organisation with two full-time team members. Our current objective: to help the 1 billion chickens raised annually in the UK. By joining us as a campaigner who focuses on communications, you will work on the frontlines by shining a light on the hidden suffering of animals trapped on factory farms, and mobilising the public to take action. Your first task will be to help us convince the UK’s largest food businesses to improve their chicken welfare policies, primarily through crafting media stories and marketing campaigns that capture the hearts and minds of the public.
While this may sound challenging, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a historic change for those who cannot stand up for themselves. Someone has to pick up the fight, and we hope it will be You.

- Conduct research – you will spend many hours online gathering information, working with investigators and lawyers, or delivering chicken products to a lab in Germany (we did this too).
- Create marketing content – you will produce graphics and videos for social media, and utilise marketing tools to reach millions of people.
- Work with the media – you will engage with journalists, write press releases, pitch stories and be animals’ voice on the radio and TV.
- Mobilise advocates – you will write emails to our supporters and motivate them to take action with us. You will also organise and run street actions like protests and stunts.
- Connect with diverse audiences – you will need to talk about the suffering of animals to very different groups of people that compose our society. To do that effectively, you will need to understand their perspective and be a good, empathetic communicator.
- Ask for support – you will help us fundraise to increase our impact.
