We are looking for a part time Information & Advocacy Community Support Worker in Scotland.  You will be home based living in the North of Scotland.

You will ensure that service users (children and adults) and their families, receive high quality support, from the point of diagnosis and throughout their journey, and will assist them to access funding, equipment and care and support that they are entitled to. You will join a team that makes a real difference to the lives of the people living with muscle-wasting conditions, and their families, in Scotland. The role will be primarily home based, but there will also be a requirement to attend outpatient clinics within the region, attend home visits where appropriate and to support responding to queries through the helpline and information inbox. Some travel will be required to attend meetings and events outside of Scotland. The role

You should also be able to develop and deliver a range of local volunteer engagement activities. • Develop and implement a regional volunteer recruitment strategy that will deliver an extensive pool of diverse and engaged volunteers to ensure the operational needs of your FareShare Regional Centre are met in a timely manner. 
• Recruit, build and maintain relationships with a wide range of regional volunteer sources, ensuring regular engagement leading to long term partnerships. 
• Regular liaison with the FareShare National Volunteering Team to capitalise on national initiatives. 

Volunteer engagement and communication strategies 

• Develop and deliver a regional engagement programme that ensures all volunteers have a rewarding experience, whilst effectively contributing to FareShare’s overall development 
• Promote volunteering, internally and externally in collaboration with the FareShare national team and ensure that the impact of volunteers is celebrated.
• Deliver the FareShare National volunteer induction programme to maximise the engagement and contribution of each volunteer. 
• Develop and deliver volunteer training, which ensures all volunteers are able to meet their potential and complete their volunteer roles effectively.

Policies and procedures 

• Implement volunteer management policies and procedures in line with guidance from the FareShare National Volunteering Team.

Making FareShare a destination for volunteering

• Enhance the experience of volunteering at your FareShare Regional Centre by delivering robust policies, together with effective engagement and communication programmes, so that volunteers enjoy what they do and can feel proud of their contribution and become ambassadors. 
• Liaise with FareShare Nationals Marketing & Volunteering Teams to promote and publicise case studies and examples of volunteer success stories. 
• To engage with other FareShare Regional Centres and the FareShare National Volunteering Team on a quarterly basis to deliver UK wide volunteering activity and share good practice.
• Work alongside the FareShare National Volunteering Team to evaluate volunteer experience and establish annual benchmarks for the FareShare Network, including volunteer satisfaction, conversion, retention, training, etc. This will be used for development of recruitment and engagement strategies.

The role

As a Community Coordinator for FareShare, your primary responsibility will be to manage and sustain the Community Food Membership (CFM) programme. Your goal will be to build and maximize relationships with our partner. To excel in this role, you must be an exceptional communicator with an approachable nature, capable of securing, developing, and maintaining relationships whilst raising awareness of FareShare Merseyside and North Wales (FSM&NW) across the region.

The Community Coordinator will require a full clean driving licence, have access to a vehicle and be competent and confident traveling independently as they will be traveling across our region, Wirral, Knowsley, Sefton, Halton, Cheshire East, Liverpool and North Wales.

As a Community Coordinator it is vital to ensuring the success and sustainability of the FareShare’s CFM’s, fostering, strong, supportive relationships with our charity partners making a positive impact.

Main areas of responsibility

This role requires close collaboration with the Regional Manager, the Finance team, and Head Office. The Community Coordinator is expected to meet recruitment and retention targets, produce comprehensive reports, and ensure all requirements of funders are met.

• Strong IT and Microsoft Office skills: Outlook, Excel and Word are essential.

Z House is an exciting new project for Caring in Bristol. It will provide much needed emergency short-term accommodation for 18 – 25-year-olds in housing crisis, which links in with daytime support to help people move on to sustainable appropriate accommodation.

Based in St Pauls, Bristol, Z House bridges the gap between high quality night shelter and person-centred homelessness prevention.

Z House is a low support needs night shelter that can offer placements for up to 4 young people, however we seek to increase this number over the course of the next stage of our journey.

After a successful pilot, we are now seeking a Weeknight (Monday – Thursday) Worker to help us deliver this vital work over the next year.

Starting at 8:30pm in the evening, supporting our young people to settle for the evening before your sleep-in shift from 11:30pm until 7:00am, in the morning you’ll support the young people and our volunteers with breakfast and room change for the day, finishing your shift at 8:30am.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Alongside a volunteer and the Monday to Thursday night worker, you will be responsible for providing a safe space, listening ear, support and guidance for young people who will have just started to experience homelessness or housing insecurity.

Reporting to the Youth Services Manager, successful applicants will maintain a safe and welcoming environment overnight at Z House, provide appropriate person-centred support to young people and manage overnight issues and incidents should they occur.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Housing Management

· Sign up and induct young people arriving outside of normal working hours

· Carry out any required health and safety, housing management, risk management monitoring, keeping accurate and complete records throughout.

· Identify and report defects in the buildings, furniture, and equipment to promote a safe

working environment in line with Health and Safety and follow relevant procedures to

remedy all defects.

· Contribute to the upkeep of services, ensuring young people’s rooms, communal and

colleague areas are well maintained, serviced, safe and clean.

Supporting Young People

· Provide support and guidance for young people as appropriate and liaise with their support worker to ensure strong communication.

· Promote the participation and involvement of young people within and outside the

organisation to elevate users’ voice in the delivery of the Z House service.

· Ensure initial safeguarding duties and Policies are met alongside our DSL and on-call manager.

· Ensure all relevant records (including case-notes, safeguarding, incident, and other logs) are

completed for all shifts.

Volunteers

· To support and provide guidance to volunteers partnering your shift.

· Ensure the volunteers’ experience at Caring in Bristol is enjoyable and adds value to the lives of those we support.

· Record volunteer needs with the Youth Services Manager or Project Coordinator.

Other

· Ensure all shift handover tasks and processes are completed satisfactorily including a

comprehensive handover for the Z House Coordinator.

· Safeguard the welfare of children, young people, and adults at risk, working within Caring in Bristol’s

safeguarding policies, Southwest Child Protection Procedures, and local procedures for

safeguarding adults at risk.

· Carry out day-to-day administration functions to ensure that all records and files are

maintained and stored securely in line with the Data Protection legislation.

· Deliver a diverse and culturally sensitive approach, ensuring that anti-discriminatory practice

and equality of opportunity are promoted within all aspects of Caring in Bristol services.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

We welcome applications from people who have the passion to help young homeless people in Bristol, have a can-do attitude and can think on their feet, and are willing to continually improve their knowledge of high-quality youth support work.

Caring in Bristol recognise that candidates will have a wide and varied level of experience and want to ensure we reach out to those with sector experience or those with transferable skills.

Successful candidates will be fully inducted and offered a range of training, including recognised Safeguarding training.

We are offereing a unique opportunity for someone with lived or working experience of the justice system to coach, support and enable others in improving their life chances. The key to this is the work you will undertake as part of a close-knit team helping people with convictions - and young people at risk of sliding into gang culture, into and through attaining their driving licence. Having a licence is a significant step on each client's journey to independent living, enabling them better employability and supporting them in re-engaging with both their families and communities. Naturally, all roles such as this have their challenges, but the rewards of seeing someone sucessfully rebuild their life are outstanding. Full training will be given but owing to the nature of support we give, a driving licence is much preferred.

Established in 1996, Step Up Hub is a grassroots charity in the London Borough of Brent dedicated to addressing the root causes and consequences of poverty and inequality within disadvantaged communities, especially within the global majority. It offers an array of services covering welfare, education, training and skills development, as well as on mental health, cost of living, and physical wellbeing. It adopts a whole village approach in its work and values working together to secure a shared sustainable future for all.

‘I AM Brent’ consortium

Step Up Hub leads a consortium, known as I AM Brent, that consists of six well-respected local charities who are working together to address the root causes and effects of violence affecting young people in the London Borough of Brent.

Programme Description

The programme is part of the Mayor of London’s flagship violence reduction programme, known as MyEnds. It is a place-based violence reduction initiative that adopts a public health approach. The consortium is providing an array of positive opportunities for young people and support for families, including through tailored interventions. The programme also aims to improve statutory and voluntary organisation networks and access to referral, and to ensure the voices of young people and community members are built into provision. The work is focused on the Church Road Estate, Stonebridge Estate, St Raphael’s Estate, Chalkhill Estate and Harlesden Town Centre areas.

The Role of the Community Engagement Lead

The Community Engagement Lead will be a key member of the team delivering the I AM Brent MyEnds programme. They will develop and maintain strong relationships with the breadth of young and older community members, and local businesses to conduct community engagement. They will subscribe to the values of co-production and work positively in accordance with I AM Brent’s Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding, Data Protection and Health and Safety policies.

In addition, the Community Engagement Lead will:

· act as the primary contact for requests from the community for information about I AM Brent’s services and events,

· disseminate to the community information about I AM Brent’s services, community fund, and events,

· organise, and support the delivery of, community engagement events, youth forums and community forums,

· encourage community participation,

· provide status reports regarding upcoming community outreach, engagement, events, and initiatives to consortium                members and community members, and provide end of community activity reports to the Programme Manager,

· summarise views of community members about their needs and ideas to improve safety,

· signpost community members to support following outreach activities,

· process referrals to the I AM Brent programme,

· support the organisation and administration of talks at community centres, places of worship, and community events,            on supporting young people’s safety,

· support the organisation and administration of parenting programmes,

· represent I AM Brent and Step Up Hub at meetings, forums, roundtable discussions and related events,

· help recruit and line manage community volunteers.

The Community Engagement Lead will be supported by the I AM Brent MyEnds Programme Manager, Step Up Hub senior leadership team and consortium members, and will work closely with I AM Brent’s Network and Communications Lead.

· act as the primary contact for voluntary and statutory providers,

· improve the referral process through strengthening networks, and by producing effective communication,

· encourage organisations to apply to I AM Brent’s community fund and to take up the capacity building support offered          to applicants,

· write information about I AM Brent services and events, encouraging engagement,

· be responsible for ensuring I AM Brent’s website content remains relevant,

· create interactive social media content and materials for publicity campaigns,

· write press releases and news articles on key developments,

· support the production of short educational and marketing videos,

· report on progress against deliverables,

· represent I AM Brent and Step Up Hub at meetings, forums, roundtable discussions and related events,

· help recruit and line manage volunteers.

The Network and Communications Lead will be supported by the I AM Brent MyEnds Programme Manager, Step Up Hub senior leadership team and consortium members, and will work closely with I AM Brent’s Community Engagement Lead.
