About the role
This is an inspiring role for someone who wants to contribute to our success by providing strategic leadership and direction to the fundraising and communications functions supporting the Dementia Adventure business plan and charitable mission and objectives.
Managing a team of five across fundraising, communications, special projects and data management, the successful applicant will lead the development of partnerships and campaigns to raise funds for Dementia Adventure’s unique work to support people with dementia and their carers to have a more active and fulfilled life by getting outdoors and experiencing the benefits of nature.
You will provide strategic leadership and direction for income generation through various fundraising disciplines and joint fundraising partnerships, ensuring the charity's diversification of funding and financial sustainability. Funding sources include major grantmakers, trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, challenge events, and an individual giving campaign.
Hand in hand with leading fundraising, you will oversee the Communications team, supporting, developing and monitoring the communications strategy, associated budget, resources, systems, processes and operations. This will involve overseeing and directing a communications plan promoting the work of Dementia Adventure to a broad range of audiences through various channels and campaigns, along with increasing online and social media presence.
About you
We are looking for someone to join the charity’s Senior Leadership Team who will bring experience from their past successes and provide inspirational strategic leadership and direction to the fundraising and communications functions in support of the Dementia Adventure business plan, charitable mission and objectives. The successful applicant will have a strong, successful track record of fundraising and/or other forms of income generation in the charity sector, including management, with proven experience in meeting financial and non-financial targets. You should be able to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including trusts and grant givers, corporates, major donors and other individuals. In addition, you should have strong knowledge of marketing and communication principles and practice, digital marketing, and social media, and be confident in engaging audiences sensitively with real-life stories to demonstrate impact and create a compelling case for support.

Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern
This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Staff are required to work an aggregate minimum of 90 days per calendar year (pro rata for part timers) at our Head Office, Mary Sumner House in central London. Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 90 days includes anchor Tuesdays. In addition, Thursday is a core working day where part time staff are expected to work, either at home or from the office as needed.

About this role
We are seeking an experienced Communications Manager who will elevate our charity’s profile, amplify our mission, engage stakeholders and influence policy change nationally through compelling storytelling and impactful campaigns. The role will lead on shaping and delivering our communications strategy, ensuring our messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with our vision of transforming temporary accommodation (TA).
The ideal candidate will be as comfortable with high-level strategy and planning as getting their hands dirty in the day-to-day of making that strategy happen. They will care about our cause of bringing about change for people living in homeless Temporary Accommodation across the country. They will be a self-starter with great communications skills and an ability to think strategically alongside a flexible, pro-active and open approach to work.
Working closely with our senior leadership, policy and fundraising teams, they will combine excellent organisation, communication and people skills to move forward the comms across our charity, leading this area of our work at an exciting time for Justlife as a charity. We are just launching the Transforming Temporary Accommodation Project, a national 5 year initiative aiming to radically reduce the use of TA while improving standards for those who depend on it.
The Communications Manager will play a crucial role in developing our communications strategy and delivery around this project, as well as across the wider work of the charity including our policy and research work, our frontline services in Brighton and Manchester, and our communication with donors and supporters.
After appointing this post, we will also be recruiting for a Communications Assistant, who will be supervised by the Communications Manager. We hope this new Comms team will be passionate about our work, strategic in their approach and brilliant at getting stuff done. You will hold end-to-end responsibility for the communications and marketing function, from developing impactful content to executing high-profile events. You will decide where and how our existing processes could be improved, as well as developing new strategies that will underpin our work as a larger and more established charity.

Why Work for The Difference?
Schooling isn’t working for the children who need it most. Every week in England 109 children – equivalent to three full classrooms – are permanently excluded. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Since the pandemic, school suspensions have risen significantly, as has persistent absenteeism. 1 in 5 children are missing more than 10% of their time in school. Children who are excluded or persistently absent are much more likely to already be experiencing vulnerability or disadvantage. They are more likely to live in poverty, have additional learning needs, suffer mental health challenges, or experience a lack of safety outside school. Our Organisation
The Difference is a young education charity, founded to change the story on lost learning. By 2030, we want rates of exclusion and absence to be falling nationally and for schools to be better equipped to support all children, including those who may be vulnerable.
The Difference was born out of a year of research into school exclusions with think-tank IPPR. This research identified a lack of inclusion expertise in schools and proposed a new leadership development programme to fill this gap. In 2018, Difference founder Kiran hired the team who took this idea from concept to reality, beginning work with our first schools. In September 2024, we published a follow-up report: Who is Losing Learning? This report broadened our definition of ‘exclusions’ to include lost learning from absence, as well as suspensions and permanent exclusions.
The Difference is now a 22-strong team delivering multiple school leadership programmes, alongside a growing research and policy arm. This work is needed more than ever. Effects of COVID-19, coupled with the spiralling cost of living, have substantially increased levels of vulnerability. Schools serving excluded pupils face under-funding. The Difference has had excellent early impact but there is work ahead to capture this, share learning with schools and policy-makers, and grow our capacity to lower exclusions across England.

The Role:

The Tutor Communications Officer will work closely with the Communications and Media Manager to support all aspects of stakeholder communications and engagement at Action Tutoring. The role will require you to develop engaging and motivational content when communicating with our volunteer tutor network, schools and other stakeholders.

ABOUT THE GLOBAL CITIZENS’ ASSEMBLY FOR PEOPLE AND PLANET
A flagship initiative of Iswe, the Global Citizens' Assembly for People and Planet is an innovative, inclusive platform that empowers citizens worldwide to contribute to critical global decisions on climate. By bringing together diverse voices, the Assembly serves as a model for reimagining governance, ensuring that people and planet are at the centre of decision-making.
This role will focus on amplifying the impact and visibility of the Assembly in the lead up to, and following, COP30 in Brazil in November 2025, using comms and influencer engagement to inspire global participation and collaboration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Influencer engagement management

Identify and engage influencers through social listening and outreach, ensuring alignment with GCA strategic goals.

Coordinate onboarding and activation for influencers, including developing kits with assets, hashtags, and impact data.

Act as the primary point of contact for influencers and media outlets across GCA campaigns.
PR and Media

Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets and journalists, pitching content and securing coverage for GCA initiatives.

Manage the creation of press materials, including press releases, briefing documents, and media kits.
Content development and digital engagement

Develop and manage engaging content for digital platforms, including blogs and social media posts to a very high standard.

Support storytelling initiatives, collaborating with the Comms Director and Advocacy team to amplify key narratives.
Event communications support

Coordinate communications for events, including managing network follow-ups, influencer activations and media outreach.

Ensure alignment between event messaging and broader GCA goals.
Monitoring and Reporting

Use social listening tools to monitor effort impact and identify optimisation.

Prepare performance reports for campaigns and present actionable insights to be shared with funders and stakeholders.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

4-6 years of experience in communications, PR, influencer marketing, and media relations.

Strong skills in identifying and activating influencers at various levels (high-profile, micro, and mid-tier).

Proven ability to execute multi-channel campaigns and engage diverse stakeholders.

Familiarity with social listening tools and data-driven campaign analysis.

A self-starter with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
