This is a brand-new position at the MRIF. The Policy Manager will help lead MRIF’s national and international policy activities, in line with the organisation’s strategic objectives.

This role aims to:

• Raise MRIF’s national and international profile and promote our policy agenda with key influencers and policymakers
• Build and maintain relationships with government officials, and the wider policy community, strategically deploying senior organisational staff or representing MRIF in external meetings and civil society forums as directed.

LGBTQI people are criminalised in more than 60 countries in the world and society persecutes and discriminates against them in even more countries. Those LGBTQI people who fear for their lives are sometimes able to reach the UK and claim asylum on the basis of their LGBTQI status. After going through the asylum determination process, successful LGBTQI claimants are subject to a number of further issues, including social isolation and poverty, that extend their experience of marginalisation and exclusion in their new country.

Are you a self-driven creative, keen to use your communications skills to build awareness of our work and impact? The Communications and Engagement Officer will use their creativity, strong digital marketing and written skills to amplify the voices of young refugees, develop compelling content for fundraising appeals, build momentum around our policy and campaigns work, and create engagement opportunities and sustained connections with our supporters and key stakeholders.

We are looking for someone with strong admin and coordination skills to champion Young Roots and our work, with young people’s voices at its core, to new and diverse audiences, growing our supporter base and unrestricted income through appeals. Your willingness and ability to collaborate and build relationships, both internally and externally; your creativity and compelling storytelling; your passion to be part of bringing about real change for refugees; and your skills in sharing our work to engage the public, will be key to the success of this role.

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference through the playing a vital role in our Philanthropy Team. 
Reporting to the Senior Philanthropy Manager this role is responsible for working alongside their line manager, wider team and operational colleagues to write and support applications to trusts and foundations for funding.

The role also plays a key role in the stewardship of our trust and foundation supporters, building strong and meaningful relationships with these organisations and individuals.  Whilst not a key focus of this role, the post holder may also be required to support the Philanthropy Team’s wider work including corporate and major donor approaches.

We are looking for a passionate and skilled trusts and foundations officer to play a key role in building on the successes of our trusts and foundations programme.  With passion for both writing and supporter stewardship you will be able to write persuasively and build meaningful relationships with those who support us. Working well as a team player you will work closely with both the wider Philanthropy Team and operational colleagues to support local applications as appropriate. 

You will have a track record of delivering efficiently and effectively. You focus on insight, stewardship and persuasive writing to get the right result for the organisation and building lasting and substantial relationships with funders. You will also be an effective communicator developing trusting relationships across the organisation and with our funders and supporters, taking everyone with you on the journey.

Overall purpose

The Head of Corporate Partnerships is a key leadership role within the Income and Engagement Directorate. Breaking Barriers’ relationship with corporate partners is the USP upon which our growth and success as an organisation has been built. The Head of Corporate Partnerships has accountability for generating income, impact and influence from the private sector, and for leading a high-performing team to achieve ambitious growth and scale for refugees around the UK.

As Breaking Barriers has grown from a start-up organisation to a now 60-strong team raising c. £4m and supporting more than 1,200 refugees annually, our corporate partnerships have expanded beyond our original London base to be nationwide partnerships with a wide range of businesses and employers. Our corporate partners have been crucial in enabling our growth and will be crucial to delivering upon the ambition of our 2030 goals. The Head of Corporate Partnerships is an essential role that will make this ambition a reality.

You will lead a team to deliver outstanding partnerships management of a range of strategic and multi-faceted relationships with a portfolio of c.50 businesses alongside leading strategy for business development. Leading by example you will own a number of our key relationships to drive growth, whilst bringing your experience to bear to coach your team and ensure structures and processes are in place to enable high performance.

The Head of Corporate Partnerships will be part of Breaking Barriers’ Joint Leadership Team and will have overall strategic and budget responsibility for Corporate Partnerships. They will be a visible leader within the Income and Engagement Directorate and across the organisation, and will contribute to a culture of creativity, growth, innovation and entrepreneurialism that will drive us to achieve our 2030 goals.

Role Overview

This role exists to launch our digital skills training provision for refugees and asylum seekers across the UK following a successful pilot project. 

We are looking for a confident, experienced self-starter to build and manage the project which will support 140 refugees over the course of the year. They will provide direct support to those accessing the programme, coordinate volunteer digital mentors and create, collate and distribute resources to project participants. 

The central goals of the project are to upskill refugees referred to Screen Share in basic digital skills and intermediate digital skills required for employment (email, word processing, spreadsheets, video conferencing, file management), to prepare refugees with little to no digital skills to participate in our intermediate digital skills programme, and to develop a volunteer infrastructure to facilitate ongoing provision of 1:1 and remote digital skills training. 

The post holder will hold overall responsibility for the project, including managing the budget, measuring impact, reporting on the project outcomes and representing the project externally. 

Experience with digital skills programmes is an essential prerequisite for this role. Work with refugees and asylum seekers or vulnerable adults is desirable.

Job Description

Outcome 1: Plan and deliver Screen Share’s Digital Skills project 

• Think critically and collaboratively about the different ways to run digital skills programmes for different skill levels, particularly for refugees and asylum seekers.

• Coordinate cohorts and oversee the delivery of 1:1 digital skills training via volunteer digital mentors, both in-person and online. 

• Deliver bespoke digital skills training sessions for groups of refugees and asylum seekers.

• Onboard service users, match them with digital mentors and explain the different digital skills and other Screen Share opportunities available to them.

• Deliver the key goals of the project within the 12 month period and report internally on the progress of the project on a monthly basis.

• Manage the project’s budget and support with identifying future funding sources for the project beyond the initial period.

• Proactively apply Screen Share’s safeguarding policy and identify, manage and collaborate on safeguarding issues as and when they arise.

Outcome 2: Recruit, manage and support digital skills volunteers 

• Design and deliver a volunteer recruitment strategy for digital mentors. 

• Respond promptly to volunteer inquiries and assist their delivery with advice and guidance.

• Deliver volunteer training to ensure volunteers are sufficiently supported to deliver digital skills sessions in line with our Digital Skills curriculum. 

• Support the upskilling of graduates of the cohorts who want to join as volunteers.

Outcome 3: Measure the project’s impact and iterate the Digital Skills programme in response to service user and volunteer feedback 

• Maintain a learning log and present key learning from the project on a quarterly basis. 

• Offer ideas and contributions towards our monitoring outcomes and the way we communicate the impact of the programme. 

• Manage the feedback process using surveys and 1:1 interviews. 

• Implement suggested changes where appropriate.

• Co-create sensitive and ethical case studies with service users and Screen Share’s communications team which communicate the impact of the project.

• Work with the Director to produce reports on the progress of the project for the project’s funder.

Outcome 4: Manage associated project data with appropriate care 

• Manage the data arising from the project in line with GDPR regulations and Screen Share’s privacy policy.

• Take responsibility for the institutional memory of the project by integrating the project’s data (such as cohorts, feedback and project learning) into Screen Share’s existing data management system. 

Outcome 5: Develop Screen Share’s digital skills curriculum, processes and resources 

• Critically analyse our existing provision and curriculum with the help of Screen Share’s Advisory Board. 

• Develop the curriculum to cover a broader range of digital skills levels. 

• Support learners to access and thrive on the Learn My Way platform. 

• Create a user-friendly digital guide which cover all the processes and learning which constitute the Digital Skills programme. 

Outcome 6: Support with Screen Share’s Digital Access project 

• Provide ad-hoc operational support for Screen Share’s flagship Digital Access project.

Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants is seeking a committed and motivated Head of Fundraising and Communications. Do you want to help refugees and asylum seekers in London? At the Islington Centre for Refugees and migrants, we welcome people who have been displaced from their countries of origin, wherever they have come from, whatever has happened in their lives. Our mission is to offer people the emotional support, practical tools and sense of community they need to be happy and have a decent quality of life in the UK. We are a small, growing charity, founded in 1997, with an expenditure budget of roughly £570,000 for the year ahead. This year we worked with 200 people offering compassionate, long term and holistic support including: a warm welcoming Centre in Islington; an Online School teaching English and offering activities to promote wellbeing; digital inclusion; grants to people in destitution and our Support Service which offers advocacy and advice to people on accessing housing, healthcare and legal advice. 

About the role: 

The successful applicant will work alongside our Trustees, our CEO and our existing Head of Fundraising and Communications in a jobshare to meet challenging fundraising targets. You will be joining us at an exciting time of development, as we open at our third site in Islington, welcome new members of staff to our team and begin work on a new strategy for 2025-2028. We have a strong track record of grant fundraising and seek someone who can support us to diversify our income, develop a fundraising strategy with a variety of income streams and bring experience and ideas to raise our profile. You will be part of a small and highly committed fundraising team of three including the existing Head of Fundraising and Communications, our Fundraising Officer and yourself. This role will focus on corporate, community, and major donor stewardship. Our work is hybrid and the role requires working both at the Centre in Islington and from home. Title: Male Residential Support Worker (this is a live-in role)

Responsible to: Senior Support Worker

Responsible for: Young people living in the accommodation (4 young people aged 16 – 18 years old seeking asylum in the UK).

Location: This is a live-in, residential role based in a supported accommodation home in Loughborough. Some work will be based in our office buildings.

Hours: 25 hours per week on duty – this is a mixture of day, evening and weekend shifts. Two days a week will be off duty.

Leave: Two nights a month can be taken as nights away from the home. This in addition to annual leave allowance. Annual leave - 33 days (converted into hours) pro-rata for number of hours worked

Salary Band: £24,150 - £27,760 per annum pro rata. Equivalent to £16,100 to £18,506 for 25 hours a week.

Overall Purpose

To provide advice, assistance and support to young people in the home, as a key member of the Support Team, delivering Baca’s service in line with our Vision and Values. The role includes a consistent adult presence in the home. To attend to their practical and emotional needs whilst supporting the development of living skills. To teach them how to manage and look after a home in order to keep it safe and hygienic. To build trusting relationships within the home to enable young people to feel safe and cared for. To act as an excellent role model and to work closely with them and their Support Worker to enable them to make good progress towards independence.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• Welcome newly arrived young people into the accommodation, helping them feel safe and able to rest; with compassion without discrimination of age, race, colour or behavioural issues.
• Actively support young people to make progress and develop in the following outcomes; physical wellbeing and emotional wellbeing; personal safety; education and learning; employment and training that is safe and suitable; social engagement (being part of the community and activities outside of the home)
• Be an excellent and positive role model, offering advice, guidance and assistance and consistently modelling behaviours in line with Baca’s values.
• Using Baca’s progress plan, train all young people in living skills and looking after a home such as washing, personal safety, cleaning, cooking and food safety, food shopping and budgeting.
• Providing emotional support at times of difficulty, anxiety or stress.
• Encourage young people settle into and support them to maintain a healthy routine which will include regularly attending education and social activities.
• Act as a co-keyworker for the young people to ensure that their support plans and progress are up to date and that all their needs are being met.
• Enable young people to live with positive values and good boundaries by challenging any unhelpful or unsafe behaviours and encouraging safe and positive behaviours.
• In accordance with the guidelines on Safeguarding and Health and Safety policies, to accept responsibility for working within these guidelines and report any concerns.

• Take responsibility for keeping the home clean, by consistently role modelling to and training young people.

Baca is looking for a Support Worker who is passionate about seeing unaccompanied young refugees achieving their potential and rebuilding their lives for a better future. The successful applicant will have a personal style that is in line with Baca’s vision and values. They will live in the new arrival house and make it their home. They will be a good self-starter and have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire our young people to be the best they can be. The successful applicant will be motivated and passionate about the work that Baca does and the young people in our care. They will be very approachable, enjoy working as part of a wider team but also able to manage their own time and workload. Someone who is supportive, approachable, responsible, reliable, personable and willing to set boundaries in line with Baca’s values.

This is a frontline role that will need the successful applicant to be working closely with young people in their houses and will need access to transport young people to different appointments, meetings and activities.

An enhanced DBS check will be required. Shortlisting and interviews will take place as and when applications are received.

You’ll own the finance manual and ensure it is complete and up to date.

Community Hub Coordinator

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Community Hub Coordinator to continue the transformation of our service offerings and create a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community hub. This role is pivotal in creating a welcoming environment that empowers marginalised groups, including asylum seekers, refugees, and those facing isolation or homelessness, helping them to thrive within the Newham community. We want to support individuals to move from whats wrong to whats strong, and you will be a key catalyst for this. 

As the Community Hub Coordinator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of key aspects of our community hub, ensuring it remains a safe space where individuals can connect, share experiences, and build relationships. You will lead a team of committed volunteers and sessional staff, manage various hub activities, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners to provide holistic support for our service users. As part of your remit you will also work alongside colleagues to develop our exciting new community meanwhile space by organising events, workshops and informal opportunities for connection.

Key Responsibilities:

• Community Building & Engagement: Develop and manage a welcoming hub that operates 5 days a week, offering tailored activities and programs that meet the needs and strengths of the community.
• Support & Empowerment: Work closely with volunteers to provide encouragement and support, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment among hub participants. To include developing a steering group to help amplify the voices of marginalised individuals and groups.
• Partnership Development: Maintain and strengthen partnerships with local organisations and agencies, ensuring integrated and holistic support for service users.
• Operational Leadership: Assist in the hub's daily operations, including coordinating volunteers and supporting the management of the community café.
• Promotion & Outreach: Promote the hub's activities and conduct outreach to engage vulnerable groups, ensuring inclusivity and cultural diversity.
• Monitoring, Evaluation, and Compliance: Use tools like Upshot to track participation and outcomes, ensuring compliance with funders as well as our own strategic objectives.

Refugee Action exists to work with refugees and people seeking asylum who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes. We are a national charity with more than 40 years’ experience of empowering people who’ve survived some of the world’s worst regimes to secure the protection and support that they need to live with dignity and respect and build a new life in the UK. We do this by providing expert advice and casework, building the capacity of partner organisations and campaigning on the policies that affect them.

The postholder will work in the Campaigns team to implement Refugee Action’s advocacy strategy which is central to our ability to influence change at all levels of government, across departments and other statutory stakeholders.

To succeed in the role you will need to demonstrate:

• Experience of developing and implementing effective public affairs strategies, including successfully identifying target lists and influencing political stakeholders.
• Experience of working with sitting MPs, select committees or all-party parliamentary groups advocating for policy change, ideally bringing existing working relationships with MPs and/or their staff. This may have been through another NGO, charity or civil society organisation.
• Experience of planning and organising events, ideally in Parliament or attended by parliamentarians.

As Head of Advocacy, you will lead the development and delivery of Medical Justice’s advocacy programme, drawing on our evidence of the harm caused by immigration detention, to secure lasting change through combinations of research, policy, parliamentary, and media work, as well as contribute to strategic litigation.

Reporting directly to the Director, you will lead our experienced team advocacy team, help develop our strategic objectives and shape our emerging Senior Management Team.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Develop the advocacy team’s expertise in all of the ways our evidence can be used to effect change, including policy work both with the Home Office and NHS England who commission healthcare in immigration detention, parliamentary work, media work, and to contribute to strategic litigation, and how and when they interrelate.
2. Understand and keep updated on what is happening with immigration detention policy, including matters that influence it, such as the literature on health issues of detainees, key legal judgements, inquests, reports by official monitors and parliamentary committees, responses to parliamentary questions, parliamentary debates, research produced by other organisations, and information that you glean from FOI requests.
3. Keep abreast of the wider political context that may influence immigration and detention policy.
4. Represent Medical Justice at external meetings and events.
   - Participate in Home Office, NHS England and monitoring bodies’ stakeholder forums.
   - Participate in formal and informal ad-hoc NGO groupings.
5. Work both reactively and pro-actively, identify opportunities for securing change and prioritise work according to its strategic importance as well as ‘return on investment’.
6. Work with the Director and the Head of Casework to ensure ;
7. Further develop Medical Justice’s Strategy and ensure that strategic objectives across the organisation are impactful, current and coherent.
   - Developments that affect detention policy are shared within Medical Justice.
   - Issues experienced in our casework are documented and used in our advocacy work.
   - Our material is robust so that we maintain credibility as an organisation which is vital for our advocacy work as well as for the use of our medico-legal reports in clients’ individual legal cases.
   - Develop the monitoring and evaluation framework for our advocacy work.
8. Facilitate the meaningful involvement of people with lived experience of detention Medical Justice advocacy work, including in its design and development.
9. Line-manage the Parliamentary & Research Analyst and the Researcher, including providing support in terms of personal development/training and well-being. There will also be line-managing responsibilities for some periods of an individual on the Casework Trainee programme for people with lived experience, once it is introduced.

Research / line-management of the Researcher

1. Consulting colleagues, other NGOs and lawyers to identify research projects that draw on medical evidence from our casework that would have the most impact, including carrying out research for strategic litigation and supporting such litigation.
2. Collaborate with other organisations as appropriate.
3. Lead the team in conducting research and provide periodic feedback of policy implications regarding the emerging findings to others within the organisation for consideration.
4. Lead the team in the producing analysis of research and audits of our MLRs, writing up into required formats, including research reports, text for inclusion in policy work, submissions, witness statements, briefing papers for parliamentarians, and media articles. 
5. Together with colleagues, offer suitable material for peer review publication and contribute where appropriate to research carried out by medical professional bodies and others.
6. Contribute to the further development of the Medical Justice datasystem and its functionality.

Policy work

1. Carry out policy work with the Home Office, NHS England and their contractors – this may include responding to consultations, and challenging issues proactively.
2. Build relationships with the Home Office, NHS England, and monitoring bodies – make sure Medical Justice is included in all relevant consultations and alert others if they have been missed out.
3. Collaborate as much as is sensible with other organisations to get the best outcomes for people in detention.

Parliamentary work / line-management of the Parliamentary & Research Analyst

1. Oversee our work as the secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Immigration Detention, raising awareness of immigration detention amongst parliamentarians and priming them to take action. Work to ensure the APPG brings together parliamentarians with experts, NGOs, lawyers and people with lived experience to amplify our collective impact.
2. Oversee the briefing of parliamentarians for challenging unjust policies, asking parliamentary questions, holding parliamentary debates, opposing parliamentary approval of harmful policy amendments, and assisting parliamentarians in tabling amendments to relevant Bills.
3. Oversee submissions parliamentary committees to inquires they hold as well as the briefing of committee members and clerks.

 Galvanise Medical professional organisations

1. Work with Royal Colleges, the British Medical Association and others to galvanise their communities, encouraging helpful evidence from them, and organising events with them.

Media

1. Work both with the Director and on your own to create mainstream and social media opportunities to promote the work of Medical Justice and the needed content.

General

• Provide reports for staff and/or trustees as requested.
• Respect and comply in full with Medical Justice patients’ confidentiality requirements and contribute to developing our own policy in this area.
• To work flexibly as a member of a team and the organisation and undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities at the request of the Director.
• To assist the smooth running of the organisation, working with other Medical Justice staff and the trustees to meet overall objectives, including strategic and operational planning, participation in periodic appraisals, and contribute to organisational development. Also, attending and assisting with relevant events as appropriate.

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference through the playing a vital role in our Philanthropy Team.

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference and play a vital role within the Fundraising team at MHA. You will be responsible for developing and implementing the individual giving programme in line with the wider strategic objectives.

To do this you will manage the direct mail appeals and online campaigns, coordinate the regular giving programme, develop the strategy for the acquisition of new supporters and retention of existing ones, and produce the twice-yearly supporter newsletter. You would also provide additional support for the legacy programme when required.
