The role 

We’re seeking a Research Officer to join our fantastic Research team following an internal promotion with the team. 

• You will be ensuring that the management of funding rounds is robust, coordinated, and delivered to the highest possible quality, and that the funding rounds we offer address key needs of the research and patient community. 

• You will be responsible for corresponding with applicants, award holders and committee members to organise key events in the grant funding process. 

• You will be liaising with researchers and people with lived experience to coordinate meaningful internal and external public and patient involvement (PPI) through our Research Involvement Network.

• You will need sound knowledge of research principles and the UK research funding environment. 

• Experience of working in a scientific or clinical research context with an undergraduate degree, preferably with a biomedical focus. 

• An understanding of patient and public involvement and how to converse with people with lived experience. 

• An ability to coordinate working with many large and diverse specialist stakeholder groups.

We exist to fund research into beating blood cancer. In the past 60 years, we’ve invested more than £500 million into blood cancer research which has led to improved treatments and saved lives. Everything we do in the next five years will be based on a single aim – to stop people dying of blood cancer or the side effects of its treatments. We want to put people affected by blood cancer at the centre of everything we do.  

We have an ambitious strategy to increase the annual investment in research. The Clinical Research Programmes Lead will lead the development and delivery of a new large-scale clinical research funding scheme. We plan to launch a major fundraising appeal focused on funding multi-arm multi-stage clinical trials testing multiple interventions, which can make a step change in the treatment of the blood cancers with the poorest survival. The role will lead the development of the scope, guidance, forms and review process for the funding call, including establishing a Funding Committee. You will work closely with colleagues in the fundraising teams to ensure we have compelling information for cases for support that will underpin the major appeal.

The role will lead on the development and delivery of new clinical research programmes, such as interventions to increase the access to clinical trials and barriers to clinical-academic careers. It will engage the clinical and research community to increase blood cancer clinical research, through workshops and providing coordination of the Blood Cancer Research Groups.

Independent Age is the national charity focused on improving the lives of people facing financial hardship in later life. 

Our Helpline and expert advisers offer free, practical support to older people without enough money to live on. Through our grants programme, we support hundreds of local organisations working with older people across the UK.

We use the knowledge and insight gained from our support services and partnerships to highlight the issues experienced by older people in poverty and campaign for change.

Responsibilities and Person Specification:

Working closely with the CEO, the Director of Policy and Influencing and the Head of Influencing, the Head of Policy and Research will lead an ambitious programme of research and policy development - with the experience of older people in poverty at the core - to secure change on reserved policy issues across the UK. The Head of Policy and Research will work proactively, collaboratively and strategically with internal and external stakeholders to secure support for our policy and practice recommendations and make them a reality. They will provide effective, inspirational, transparent and compassionate leadership and line management to colleagues in the Policy and Research department. This is one of two new roles in our well established Policy and Influencing Directorate, building on our commitment to drive forward policy change that tackles poverty in later life. 

You should have a passion to tackle poverty in later life, significant experience leading and evaluating large and complex programmes of strategic policy work and devising creative and workable policy solutions that are adopted by UK Government, businesses and/or regulators. It’s also essential to be an experienced line manager and team player, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders across the nations to secure policy change.

The British Academy – the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences – is seeking a Research Funding Officer (Grants) to join our Research Funding Team.

The role

The role of the Research Funding Officer is to deliver specific activities within the portfolio of funding schemes managed by members of the Research Funding Team with specific responsibility for the BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants, the Stein-Arnold Exploration Fund, and the Neil Ker Memorial Fund. The Officer will be responsible for pre- and post-award management; planning and budgeting; advising applicants, award holders and assessors; monitoring and reporting on award outcomes; producing statistics and summary reports; and contributing to the ongoing improvement of the Academy’s grant management system. 

You will work closely with another Research Funding Officer to deliver and administer the BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants, leading on the opening, closing, and award-making aspects of alternate rounds, as this scheme runs twice a year, as well as working closely with the Academy’s Fellows, university research offices, applicants, grant holders, researchers and other stakeholders. The role will be involved in the organisation of selection meetings and other relevant associated activities for grant holders, researchers and other stakeholders.

The Research Officer will join our Applied Research and Evaluation division to contribute to work and projects of the Child Outcomes Research Consortium (CORC). CORC brings together organisations and individuals committed to using and improving evidence to improve children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing. The post-holder will be skilled in the R programming language in order to validate, clean, analyse and visualise data for reports. They will be involved in interviewing research participants, so the ability to build and maintain relationships with project participants is key. Experience of research design, ethics approval and data collection is essential.

The successful candidate will join a friendly, cross-disciplinary team in which staff are continually developing their quantitative and qualitative research skills. They will liaise directly with practitioners and partner organisations to discuss data, analysis and findings. They will also have the opportunity to contribute to reports and academic publications. Other training and personal development needs will be determined in collaboration with the post-holder, e.g. further training in the R programming language or qualitative research.

About Global Health 50/50

Global Health 50/50 (GH5050) is an independent, evidence-driven initiative to advance action and accountability for gender equality. GH5050 was formed around a unique model which brings together the rigour of academic research, the knowledge of how policy change can occur and the momentum of advocates and communicators to catalyse progress on gender equality. GH5050’s mission is ‘To improve health, well-being, and social justice through the promotion of human rights, particularly in relation to gender equality, by conducting research, disseminating the useful results of such research, and providing information, advice and advocacy.’ Established in 2017, GH5050 is a non-profit organisation (as a UK registered charity) headquartered in Cambridge, UK, that initially focussed on the health sector and is increasingly active in the justice and finance systems, globally and at country level.

Context

Through our flagship annual report and Gender and Health Index, GH5050 provides the only bird’s-eye view of gender, inclusion and equality in the global health sector today. The report assesses 200 organisations annually across a core set of variables on policies and practices to tackle power and privilege imbalances within the workplace, the gender and geography of organisational leadership, and whether gender is considered in any organisations' external-facing programmatic or policy work. Working with research and advocacy partners, supported by an advisory group, gender and health experts and a team of research consultants, GH5050 leverages the research data and evidence to engage with the assessed organisations directly.

The successful candidate for this post is expected to play an integral role in contributing to the research, dissemination and impact work of GH5050, during a time of rapid growth.

Role Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of one of the world’s leading research and accountability initiatives for gender equality. You will join a small and growing team of staff working at GH5050. We are looking for a motivated, proactive, dynamic, collaborative and meticulously detail-oriented individual to join our team and encourage applications from people who meet the person specification and are interested in taking on the tasks and responsibilities of this key role in GH5050.

The programmatic priorities of this role in Year 1 include supporting the processes of research, partnership and publication of: 1) Disability, gender and health report, 2) Gendered Health Pathways data visualisation tool, 3) 2025 annual health sector report, 4) inaugural global justice 50/50 report. It is expected that over the course of Year 1, approximately 70% of this role will be dedicated to the health sector research and 30% to the justice sector. In Year 2 of the role, some research support and particularly capacity building for researchers in the new economics and finance sector may be required. 

Conduct gender  research (30%). Contribute to the GH5050 annual reports, including methodology design, data collection oversight, data analysis, validation and interpretation, research and evidence-scoping. Conduct other research at the intersection of global health, global justice, career leadership, and gender equality in support of GH5050 thematic reports, projects and activities as required. This may include literature reviews, scoping reviews and evidence mapping. Contribute to a range of policy analyses including conducting background research and evidence reviews, contributing to the development of best practice policy recommendations.Some research on organisations active in the global justice sector may be required.

Manage and analyse data (20%). With the health and justice sector leads, provide rigorous quality control, validation, cleaning and storage of all data collected. Prepare spreadsheets for analysis and work with statistical and subject experts to analyse data. Work with website developers to integrate data into the GH5050 website.

Translate findings, from evidence to recommendation(20%). Support the sector leads in the drafting of report outlines, integration of research outputs into draft reports and the articulation of findings and messages in the development of range of outputs including reports, policy briefs, papers for peer-reviewed publications and op-eds. Coordinate with the communications team on preparing communications materials and preparing dissemination activities. 

Coordinate projects and partnerships (20%). Support the Head of Research & Impact and the Sector Specialists  to manage research and publication workstreams, ensuring the timely delivery of research products and effective management of research partnerships. Some minimal support to coordination of the other sectors may be required.

Liaise with researchers (10%). Support the sector leads in coordinating with the cohort of part-time research consultants, facilitating effective communication between research consultants and senior staff, and supporting the implementation of a new programme of researcher engagement and development. Participate in onboarding and training of new researchers on GH5050 methods.

External engagement. Present GH5050 data to and participate in conferences and events as needed. 

Knowledge/Experience required

• A Masters-level qualification in public health, global health, a social science subject or relevant related field

• Experience conducting mixed methods research,

• Particular strength in quantitative analysis using Excel data sheets

• Familiarity with using statistical software packages – e.g. SPSS or STATA

• Some familiarity with programming in R an advantage

• Familiarity with other machine learning programmes an advantage

• Experience of data management processes to ensure data validity and reliability

• The ability to produce clear, concise, engaging and evidence-led written outputs including reports, policy briefs, academic papers and op-eds.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain strong channels of communication with GH5050 staff and external collaborators

• Experience in conducting evidence reviews – e.g. systematic reviews, scoping reviews – an advantage

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

• Excellent organisation skills, flexibility and ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines

Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. We’re determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. We support and fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.

The Research Officer will report into the Head of Research and provide a wide and extensive range of administrative support to the charity’s research grant programme. This includes supporting and taking responsibility of aspects of the grant review process, maintaining grant records and organising meetings. The post holder will liaise with bowel cancer researchers and clinicians and our research committee members. The post holder will need to be a team player with excellent communication and people skills and must be proactive, resilient, and capable of organising and managing a varied workload.  We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running, someone who is passionate about science and ideally with some experience of grant administration.

Prospect Research Officer

We are recruiting a Prospect Research Officer to work full time (37.5 hours per week) on a permanent contract. We are based in our London office, we would love to see you there for our team planning days and in person meetings, but we are fully flexible to where the work is done the rest of the time. There may be events on occasions (4-5 events per year) we would like you to attend in London.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Research, the Research Manager will manage the Stroke Association’s research funding activities and portfolio of active research awards. This includes developing research funding calls, overseeing the research awards application and review processes, to support high quality, strategically aligned research, focused on delivering the greatest impact for people affected by stroke.

The post holder will be responsible for managing a small team, including Research Officer and Operations Assistant, and will oversee the day-to-day administration of ongoing awards including finances, reviewing change requests and reporting.

Key responsibilities will include:

· Lead the planning and logistics for all research funding calls, developing the call scope and documents.

· Lead the peer review of research applications, convening of panel meetings and award process.

· Work closely with other funding bodies and research charities to develop and deliver collaborative funding processes.

· Manage the portfolio of on-going research awards; ensure accurate award record keeping, auditing and reporting is completed.

· Manage a small team responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administration of ongoing awards.

About You

You will:

· Be educated to Postgraduate degree level in a science subject or equivalent experience in a relevant field

· Have proved experience of research management in a life science setting

Key Duties:

• Assist in the development and implementation of individual giving fundraising campaigns to ensure sustainable income growth and long-term donor engagement.
• Manage activities aimed at enhancing supporter engagement and acquisition through various channels including social media, email, SMS, direct mail, and online campaigns.
• Work closely with the wider fundraising research, and communications teams to ensure the effective execution of individual giving activities.
• Oversee data selection for individual giving campaigns to optimise return on investment and insightful testing; ensure data is managed sensitively, confidentially, and in compliance with GDPR.
• Support the Individual Giving team in forecasting and reporting on both financial and non-financial KPIs related to the individual giving programme.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Proven experience in project management across multiple direct marketing channels, including both print and digital media.

• Strong background in researching and developing content for fundraising and marketing initiatives.
• Experience working with creative, print, digital, and media agencies to achieve optimal results.
• Experience in supporting the planning and budgeting process within an individual giving framework.
• Familiarity with legacy marketing is a plus.
