About the team
We specialise in emergency homelessness work, intensive support to children and families and people experiencing domestic abuse, and/or multiple disadvantage and have been providing housing advice and support to the people of Sheffield for over 20 years. We take a holistic approach to help people to deal with interrelated issues that can impact their ability to get and keep a home, so they can thrive within the community. These include high intensity support, legal representation, practical DIY assistance and specialist housing, employment training and welfare benefits advice. The clients we help have a range of issues include physical and mental health conditions, drug and alcohol use, income and money management and domestic abuse.
About the role
You will help clients to maintain independence and to thrive, by offering practical assistance, support, advice, advocacy, coaching and encouragement to enable households to resettle and to prevent homelessness. All our Support Workers hold a ‘caseload’ of households and are responsible for developing outcome focused support plans, managing any risks and continually assessing need. Shelter staff are highly knowledgeable and capable and we provide our staff with a range of training opportunities, in subjects such as: housing and homeless legislation; benefits and welfare; safeguarding and risk management.

About you
You will need a relevant background that includes experience of housing, homelessness and welfare benefits law and supporting people who are vulnerable and/or have multiple and complex needs. Through this you will have a good working knowledge of safeguarding frameworks. Proficiency using a range of IT tools to carry out your work, including Microsoft Office applications is important too. If you have experience of using case managements systems this is an advantage, but not essential. The role will need you to visit clients in their homes so you will need a valid driving licence and be willing to use your vehicle for work purposes - for which an essential car user allowance will be paid.

About the role
Sightsavers Nigeria has an exciting and fulfilling opportunity to join the team as the Country Fundraiser, where you will secure funding from new and existing foundations and corporate partners as well as managing and maintaining donor relationships to achieve annual income targets and deliver significant year-on-year long term growth.
The Country Fundraiser will engage with high net worth individuals within Nigeria that are able to contribute towards annual planned funding growth that will be toward vital programmes in Nigeria, they will also collaborate with other fundraising teams in Sightsavers to implement the Global Fundraisings team's plans for Nigeria.
The duties of the Country Fundraiser include:
Proposal Development:
Develop and deliver high quality funding proposals to prospect pipelines and targets of high value, as well as new and existing corporate partners and Nigerian foundations, supporting the implementation of the overall Sightsavers Nigeria Foundation funding strategy. With direct involvement in the planning, coordination, and production of proposal writing.
Building strategic relationships:
Develop and maintain key external and internal relationships critical to fundraising activities towards achieving planned objectives.
Individual Giving:
Develop key external and internal relationships critical for the achievement of planned objectives with these high-net-worth donors. To take personal responsibility for delivering agreed targets in line with the team strategy of securing planned income.
Strategy and planning:
Develop and implement vital operational plans in support of fundraising strategies, including creation of bespoke development plans to engage new prospects, and to encourage growth in income from existing corporate partners and Nigerian foundation portfolios. Identify and research new prospects to introduce into pipeline.
Contract Management and Reporting:
Manage funding contracts and grants for agreed Sightsavers' projects to deliver on internal and external reporting requirements:
Work with the Country Director and Board of Sightsavers Nigeria Foundation on income, key performance indicators, prospecting, and account planning.
Report to donors on project delivery.
Develop communication plans to support corporate funding partnerships.
Market understanding:
Develop and maintain a broad knowledge and understanding of the corporate social responsibility agenda of corporate organisations/partners in Nigeria and advise the country office on potentials areas of collaboration and fundraising.

As the ideal candidate you will posses extensive fundraising experience in Nigeria that has involved high level relationships and high net worth individuals. You will have proven success in cultivating new relationships with prospective supporters/clients and maintaining relationships with existing supporters/clients and have a background in fundraising from corporate/foundation fundraising and/or major individual donors and/or significant experience of working at senior level, in a fundraising, marketing or sales capacity.
Further requirements include:
Experience working at senior level externally to develop high value relationships.
A proven track record of meeting or exceeding financial targets and soliciting gifts from donors, or business in a commercial setting.
Knowledge of the principles of corporate, foundation and major donor fundraising.
Significant experience of successful face-to-face donor / customer contact, building long term relationships.
Extensive experience and knowledge of good fundraising practice and relevant legal issues or equivalent from a commercial setting.
Experience of working for an NGO/INGO.
Strong listening and negotiating skills.
First class presentation and writing skills, including preparation of proposals, project budgets, reports.

The Salvation Army are partnering with the University of Stirling via the Salvation Army Centre for Addiction Services and Research to deliver a trial for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). This unique and innovative social care trial will examine the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of a Peer Navigator/peer support intervention for people experiencing homelessness and problems with substance use. We are now looking for a Peer Navigator (lived experience practitioner) within our Homelessness service to deliver a relationship-based intervention to those experiencing drug and alcohol problems and homelessness, providing both practical and emotional support.

Key Responsibilities: The role of Peer Navigator (Lived Experience Practitioner) is fundamental to The Salvation Army’s desire to help vulnerable clients achieve positive outcomes and as such you will be passionate, target driven, dynamic and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of services for vulnerable clients in a competitive climate. You will also champion excellence in terms of ensuring our clients are central to our services and successful individual outcomes are achieved.
There is a requirement to work flexibly to meet the needs of participants/client, due to the nature of this particular role, including the outreach element. The usual pattern of work will be Monday-Friday with hours between 8am-6pm. However, some working outside these hours may be requested, depending on the needs of the people you will be supporting. Work life balance will be taken into consideration and individual needs can be discussed with line managers.
The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:
- Their own personal (not family related) experience of homelessness and/or problem alcohol/drug use.
- A passion for supporting vulnerable people, with strong previous experience of working successfully in a similar role, and good knowledge of drug and alcohol issues including harm reduction models.
- Genuine compassion and non-judgemental attitude for people in need with challenging lives.
- Knowledge of the main support needs of people experiencing homelessness and other forms of vulnerability, including problem substance use and challenges with the welfare benefit system.
Appointment subject to satisfactory references, proof of right to work in the UK and Enhanced with the barred list DBS adult workforce Disclosure check.

What is the role?
This a 12 Month Maternity contract.
Working within our values and behavioural framework, the role involves closely managing the relationships of our partner organisations (known as Licensed Organisations – LOs) and ensuring those within your portfolio offer quality and inclusive DofE programmes to young people.
While managing these relationships, across your portfolio area in Teesside, you will also identify and develop new relationships with appropriate educational and community organisations to widen the access of the DofE to young people, particularly those who experience marginalisation.
You will be undertaking regular meetings, in person and virtually, engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders at different levels within different organisations across your portfolio area. When not out at meetings, you will be working from home.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for a team player who has a passion for the development of young people and who will be enthusiastic, who can engage and influence a variety of stakeholders and who will be an authentic ambassador for the DofE.
You will need to have good communication and interpersonal skills to engage with internal and external stakeholders and have the skills to inspire and influence them to enable young people to participate in DofE.
To undertake the role, you’ll need to be exceptionally organised, have the ability to prioritise your workload, meet deadlines and have excellent administrative skills, being both computer literate and competent in MS Office applications.
We are looking for someone who has a positive outlook and who will actively contribute to our team.
The role will be mixture of home based and field based. The successful application should live within, or very close to, the portfolio area of Teesside with a full driving/motorbike licence and access to a vehicle.

About this key role
Our successful candidate will monitor and manage the receipt of referrals from Probation through the Customer Approved System (CAS) ensuring they are successfully assigned to Personal Wellbeing Coaches using the appropriate guidance and process, ensure all inputting is accurate and within agreed timescales, plus provide regular activity reports to the Personal Wellbeing Manager. You will be the primary point of contact for all enquiries, external and internal to ensure communication channels are clear and effective, while also liaising with external stakeholders (e.g. Prisons), delivery partners, spot purchase providers and other agencies to arrange appointments, referrals, and generally ensure information exchanged is done in a clear, timely and effective manner.
Developing and maintaining an Estates log and diary to ensure the team always have an approved site to meet service users in mandated locations when needed and providing administration for meetings, including bookings, invitations and minute-taking, are also vital duties.
What we are looking for
- Experience of managing Customer Relationship Management systems, including inputting data and creating reports
- An understanding of the barriers faced by people with complex and multiple needs
- Knowledge of Trauma Informed practice and how to apply it in supporting service users
- Ability to develop and maintain means by which compliance with policy and procedure can be effectively monitored and reported on, including financial expenditure
- Impressive prioritisation relationship-building and interpersonal abilities
- First-class communication skills, both verbal and written
- A flexible, collaborative and professional approach to your work.

Call for expression of interest - Health Systems Researcher to support data collection, analysis and report writing for the Uganda Eye Health Systems Assessment.
Title: Health Systems Researcher
Consultancy length: 32 days, over 5 months
Location: Uganda, hybrid working - Home working, office based, and field work (north and west Uganda, and Kampala)
Sightsavers is seeking an experienced and motivated Health Systems Researcher to support the data collection, analysis and report writing for a study which aims to assess the relative strengths and weaknesses of the eye health system. The results of this assessment will support the Ministry of Health and partners to (i) plan, prioritize key weakness areas, and identify potential solutions or recommendations for eye care interventions, (ii) include eye health systems interventions in eye care programme design and implementation, and into the general health system in Uganda.
The study is being conducted in two connected phases - the first phase, a desk-based review and analysis of existing documents and data, is complete and the report will be shared with the selected consultant. Phase 2 will be informed by the findings of Phase 1. Phase 2 will primarily involve collecting primary data using in-depth qualitative interviews with purposively selected stakeholders, analysing the data, and writing a combined report to address the aims of the assessment, and synthesise recommendations for improvements. A detailed study protocol for both phases is available and will be shared with the selected consultant.
This consultancy will support the second phase of the study - conducting in-depth interviews and FGDs (Focus Group Discussions), analysing these data, and writing the study report. The consultant will be expected to undertake detailed and rigorous analysis of the data and provide a study report. The consultant will work with the study investigators to review the analysis, synthesise conclusions and recommendations, and write the report.
This call is for an individual consultant, not a team. The consultant will be expected to participate in an initial assessment review meeting with the study investigators, which will take a half-day, followed by 13 days of data collection, 12 days of coding, analysis and report writing. Regular feedback and communication with the study team lead is expected to ensure quality and consistency. The consultant will then meet with the study investigator team to present and discuss the findings of the analysis for a further half-day; followed by 5 days to address any further questions, and 1 day to review and make any final edits.
In total, the consultancy will be for 32 days spread over 5-months. The consultant's work is envisaged to start in July 2024 and may continue until December 2024.
This is an ideal consultant will possess a post-graduate degree in discipline related to public health, health economics, social or behavioural science, or other relevant fields.
Further requirements include:
- Strong demonstrable expertise in health systems research.
- Familiar with, and demonstrable experience, in exercising concepts related to research ethics such informed consent, and confidentiality, and local laws and guidelines pertaining to research involving human subjects.
- Demonstrable experience in conducting i) qualitative interviews, ii) qualitative data analysis, and iii) writing up study reports.
- Proven ability to prepare compelling scientific presentations and written reports for a range or audiences.
- The consultant will have experience as a primary author on at least two peer-reviewed journal publication.
