The role
As Head of Movement Building, you will support the development and delivery of coalition and network strategies that support a just transition away from oil and gas in the UK. You will ensure that Uplift’s movement building approach meets the needs of campaigns whilst strengthening the movement away from oil and gas. You will ensure Uplift works to identify and meet the various campaign, mobilisation and movement building needs of partners.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate for the role will:

Lead our work to broaden and diversify the movement that supports a just transition away from oil and gas in the UK, undertaking relationship and partnership-building with new coalitions, constituencies, organisations, and affected communities.

Lead the development and refinement of Uplift’s movement building strategy in collaboration with the Head of Campaigns and wider campaigns team.

Design mobilising and organising approaches which facilitate groups participation in Uplifts existing and planned campaigns.

Coordinate various formal and informal coalitions dedicated to phasing out fossil fuels and supporting a just transition in the UK, and, as part of this work, facilitating meetings and lead and track strategy-setting processes with groups of diverse partners and stakeholders, in collaboration with the Uplift team. Represent Uplift in wider coalition spaces.

Lead on the monitoring of the health and efficacy of existing Uplift coalitions, identifying areas for improvement and developing and executing strategies to address them.

Regularly map the climate justice and social justice movement landscape as it relates to Uplift’s work, identifying key sites for Uplift’s involvement and networks to engage with

Line manage up to 4 members of the Campaigns team and provide senior level guidance, oversight and support for their work objectives, performance and professional development.

Represent the Campaigns and Movement Building Team as part of the Senior Management Team.

Provide active support for the broader Campaign team in movement building work, partner and coalition management and general campaign activities.

Develop campaign resources in collaboration with key partners and networks.

Support the execution of campaign and movement building strategies and tactics in collaboration with key partners.

Provide campaign advice to partners, advocates and community groups working towards the same goals.

Help develop and promote regenerative practices and culture for Campaign team, partners and coalitions.

SUMMARY
Community Energy England (CEE) is looking for an experienced experienced operations manager. This is a key role for CEE as we start to implement a new strategy, bring in new funding streams, and explore new ways to meet the needs of our growing membership. You will form part of our small senior leadership team and be an integral support to the Chief Executive. As we are a small organisation, this role will by necessity be a hands-on role too; “doing the doing” will be an important part of enabling you to develop this area of our activity and impact. Part of this will involve working collaboratively across the team and with our members to ensure that we work effectively and strategically.

We have a growing network of over 320 member organisations, including community energy enterprises and other supportive organisations from the private and public sectors, and we work with a wide range of other associations and networks.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Chief Operating Officer will lead on our ‘Thrive’ outcome: ensuring that CEE is a strong and sustainable organisation that can serve the community energy sector into the future.
Working closely with our Chief Executive, this role will be responsible for further developing the operational foundations - our systems and procedures - that allow our Heads of Departments to deliver their services with increasing professionalism and impact, and to grow the team to enable us to continue to impactfully support our growing membership. This role will suit someone who would relish the opportunity to lead and shape new ways of working.
As a member of the CEE team, you will be given the opportunity to continue developing your skills and contribution to the organisation and the sector. Community energy has broad and exciting impacts, and this role will provide varied experience and reach.

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategy implementation - developing systems for tracking organisational objectives and delivery, overseeing progress and reporting to the CEO
- Operational oversight - Actively collaborate with the senior leadership team and our Membership & Operations Officer to review and refresh our policies, procedures, and operational systems to ensure they meet the needs of our plans for growth
- Governance - working with the CEO and board to ensure good governance and effective risk managemen
- Finance and funding - supporting CEE’s financial management procedures and fiscal activities (working with our external bookkeeper) including budgeting, reporting requirements, and development of new funding sources (working with the senior leadership team)
- HR - (with support from our external HR service and Membership & Operations Officer) updating and implementing staff policies and processes which contribute to staff wellbeing and retention, supporting the senior leadership team to regularly review the range of skills required to deliver CEE’s strategy, identifying mechanisms for ensuring that we have access to the knowledge and skills required, monitoring implementation of policies & processes
- Membership services - oversight of our membership processes, relations, and communications
- People management - line managing our Membership & Operations Officer and Events & Communications Officer, liaising with our external bookkeeper and HR service, supervision of senior leadership team priorities
- Oversight of key projects - this will include ongoing oversight of the website (we have a new website in development), ensuring our events and new projects align with our strategy, and reviewing how CEE functions as a remote working team
- Team working - working collaboratively across the team and with our members to ensure that we work effectively and strategically. This will include working with the Chief Executive to grow the team to enable us to continue to impactfully support our growing membership.
SALARY, BENEFITS AND CONDITIONS
- Location: Working from home with the option to work in our Sheffield co-working space. There will be the need for occasional travel to other parts of the country such as CEE’s base in Sheffield.
- Hours: 35 hours per week. We are open to flexible working requests and many of our team work flexibly. Occasional weekend/evening travel and working (with notice) may be required, for which you’ll get time off in lieu.
- Salary: 46,000 -£52,470 p.a. (dependent upon experience, with scope to increase as the role develops).
- Contract Period: Permanent.
- Start date: ASAP.
- Reporting to: Chief Executive (Emma Bridge).
- Leave: 25 days paid holiday a year plus bank holidays (pro rata if part-time), with an additional day after 2 and 5 years.

Bond gets nearly half its income from restricted funding, so it is critical part of becoming a financially resilient organisation with a diverse income portfolio, able to adapt to external cost pressures and having scope to invest in the work it wants to do.As our members shrink their UK presence, Bond’s membership income is reducing accordingly, and so we need to increase our access to restricted fundraising to compensate and allow us to continue to deliver our strategy.
Bond has strengths and weaknesses when it comes to fundraising. Our strength is our unique place in the UK sector, our structured relationships with the UK government and our key role in global networks, including around key processes such as the G7 and G20. Our main selling point for funders is that an investment in Bond can reach our 365 members, the UK government and the key global institutions in which it plays a key role. We have also demonstrated thought leadership on key issues, including anti-racism, economic justice, sector transformation, civic space, decolonization and development finance. We have access to unrestricted funding from our members, and funding from the FCDO, which can be used to co-finance other initiatives. Our weakness is that, as a UK based network, we cannot easily demonstrate the kind of ‘on the ground’ impacts that other organisations can, and we risk being deprioritized by UK funders who want to fund UK work, and those interested in work in LMICs who (rightly) want to prioritise spending in those countries. We are also rightly focused on our member priorities and positioning, which can limit access to some funding streams, as we are clear that we will only work on areas that are of sufficient priority for our members.
Moreover, many of the key trusts and foundations that Bond is targeting rely on relationship building and networking rather than a formal application process. We need to build up our profile and relationships with these funders, especially those in the US.
We are looking for a part-time fundraising director, to work on a consultancy basis, to support us in securing the next phase of these large grants and helping us to identify and engage with other funders to diversify our funding sources. This role combines coordination with building strong relationships and supporting Bond managers and leaders to secure our funding into the future. The person will lead an informal team of staff drawn from across the organisation (which meets fortnightly) and work closely with the CEO and Directors to establish and maintain relationships with key donors. They will also play a key role in upskilling and developing staff capacity to fundraise within Bond and coordinating our efforts.
We have done a significant amount of groundwork and initial scoping of trusts and foundations over 24/25, so this new director’s role will be to help us in opening doors and building relationships with priority funders. The director will also help to support the CEO, Senior Management Team and our managers to identify and build relationships with funders, strengthen networks and sharpen up our pitch. The director will also provide strategic advice and guidance to the SMT as to how we might strengthen our work areas to better attract additional funding, building on some consultancy on our finance model that is currently ongoing.
The ideal candidate will have a track record in fundraising from major donors and a strong interest in and understanding of the international development sector and the role of networks within that sector. They will have significant existing relationships and networks amongst the major donors likely to fund Bond’s work. They will be excellent at bringing teams together to submit bids, overseeing active funder management and finding the best relationships from which to secure funds.

This role is remote but you will be visiting the trusts when needed.
We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication skills to support contacting employees to find a self-determined resolution to their concerns for independent and confidential staff liaison service.
The Role
To provide independent, confidential liaison for all staff
To support contacting employees to find a self-determined resolution to their concerns by telephone and/or in person
Escalate issues of concern promptly in accordance with agreed timescales
Surface issues for the organisation which might otherwise be unknown
Promote an environment of Freedom To Speak Up
Provide support for staff who feel unable to raise issues internally or without support
The Candidate
Proven management and organisational skills at a midmanagement or higher level
Demonstrable experience of interaction with mid-level and senior Executives, Directors and Non-Executive Directors in addressing concerns and issues.
Proven experience of dealing sensitively with difficult issues, to act with integrity and maintain confidentiality as appropriate
Experience in giving presentations to small and large groups
Strong report writing skills
Experience in communicating at all levels of staff from all disciplines and/or grades.
Experience of planning and prioritising own workload, and working on own initiative
Basic knowledge of Employment Law, the Equality Act and data protection
Knowledge of HR policy and proven experience of staff management desirable
