The Role
At FILE, we know that bringing our partners together in person is key to driving legal action on climate change. We’re looking for a Convening Manager to help us deliver impactful events that inspire collaboration and progress.
This role is about more than logistics; it’s about creating meaningful experiences. You’ll lead the planning and execution of FILE’s convenings—gatherings that bring our global partners together for at least a day, often longer. Creating a FILE experience strategically across all of our convenings. You’ll work closely with teams across FILE and externally to ensure each event runs smoothly and aligns with our mission.
Our convenings take place worldwide, with 2025 events planned in the Netherlands, the UK, Australia, South Africa, and Brazil. Attendance would be needed at each convening where possible.
This is an exciting, unique opportunity to bring your global event management skills to a growing organisation making a real impact. We’re looking for someone eager to engage with diverse stakeholders, think creatively and strategically about event design, and contribute to our mission but also comfortable with the day-to-day operational side of making the event a success.
Most work will follow European business hours, but early morning or late evening calls will be needed—at least once per week.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage all aspects of event planning including location research, venue sourcing, budgets, attendee management matching, working to a brief developed by FILE leads. Equity, diversity and inclusion are important considerations when deciding on location and are reflected in visa considerations, travel time etc.

Lead the event planning process, acting as a coordinator with FILE staff in relation to each event

Lead budget development for events based on briefs from, and liaison with, FILE’s relevant leads.

Coordinate FILE staff attendance at major international events such as COP30

Experience in stakeholder management and coordination both internally and externally

Manage the accommodation and travel booking process for attendee accommodation and hotels (with FILE’s preferred travel platform) with a focus on ensuring accessibility for all participants

Lead communications to attendees through management of guest administration such as invitee and attendee lists, keeping inclusive language and incorporating translation where necessary.

Support attendees with visa requirements such as drafting letters of invitation.

Comply with legal, insurance, health, and safety regulations at all times.

Provide risk management and mitigation advice as part of ongoing risk assessment and management.

Provide coordination between FILE and event facilitators or other key stakeholders

Conduct scouting trips (if necessary) to visit potential venues or liaise with FILE staff in those regions to ensure suitability of venues.

Manage event execution by being on-site (for mid-large-scale events) or briefing relevant FILE staff for small-scale events and being remotely available to check-in / troubleshoot

Build and retain indexes on venues and suppliers

Support the refinement of FILE’s convening strategy with the Head of Fieldbuilding and Networks and act as a scout for ideas or methods to improve event design and experience

About FILE
The Foundation for International Law for the Environment (FILE) was set up in 2018 to be the major philanthropic regrantor scaling up legal action globally to tackle the climate and biodiversity crisis.
We work as movement enablers, campaign strategists, and impact funders, using the law in pursuit of three interconnected system-level goals:

As movement enablers, campaign strategists, and impact funders, we do not bring litigation or other legal action ourselves. As a regrantor, FILE is not an endowed foundation, but rather we engage in fundraising to secure resources to support our partners globally.
Location
FILE has offices in London and the Netherlands, and a small hub of staff in Australia, US East Coast, South Africa and Brazil. Otherwise, we look to employ staff remotely in the regions where our partners are based. We are advertising this role for candidates based (and with the right to work) in the UK, or the Netherlands but will also consider applications from other locations where we are able to do so.

Key responsibilities
Understanding needs and the changing external environment
- Develop understanding of the preferences and needs of statisticians and data professionals, and others interested in data and statistics, at an individual and organisational level, to evolve our products and services and align our commercial activities to those preferences and needs
- Undertake research to identify new target markets for commercial products and services
- Undertake research to understand competitors and benchmark RSS products and services
- Monitor and respond to developments and emerging trends in charities, membership organisations and other learned societies, and in statistics/data science/AI to ensure that our commercial offerings remain timely and relevant

Development of strategies and plans

- Oversee the development and operation of the RSS conferences and events programme

Working for the RSS
Pension and benefits
Our defined contribution pension scheme can be joined after three months in post. Your contributions of up to 8% of salary will be double matched by the Society (making a maximum contribution by the Society of 16%). A training budget, season ticket loan, cycle to work scheme and employee assistance programme are also available.
Location
The RSS office is in central London. We offer flexible working arrangements, and this is a hybrid role with on average two days a week working in the office. In person attendance for certain meetings is required (including all staff/team meetings and governance/committee meetings that take place in person). Limited travel within the UK and internationally may be required.
Working hours
35 per week full-time. Applications for job shares, part-time and flexible working will also be considered.
Holidays
25 days per annum, plus bank holidays and an additional shut down between Christmas and New Year.

JOB PURPOSE
Advocacy plays a critical role in Start Network’s efforts to realize its vision of transforming the humanitarian system. The advocacy team is tasked with placing Start Network at the forefront of high-level influencing initiatives in the humanitarian sector, advocating for a more locally led, equitable, innovative, and proactive system.
The External Engagement and Advocacy Advisor will lead key areas of the team focused on strengthening advocacy and influencing outcomes related to locally led humanitarian action, new forms of financing and collective innovation. This includes building relationships with key stakeholders, including Start Network teams, hubs, members, donors, and global allies. The Advisor will be responsible for implementing the policy and advocacy strategy, aimed at amplifying the visibility and impact of Start Network and its members, ultimately driving broader systemic change in the humanitarian sector.

JOB PURPOSE
This new role within the Institutional Funding team will support statutory and multilateral donor engagement in humanitarian programmes. Based in the Business Development directorate, the postholder will gain regular exposure to humanitarian programming funding, strategies and structures. Key relationships will be both internal and external, including direct contact with donors, humanitarian NGOs, and locally led hub networks in target countries.

We are a team of thirteen highly motivated individuals with different skills and experience. Each person has an important role to play. All team members work remotely with constant communication between them. While the team is small, the impact is big - our net distributions protect millions of people. Our largest programme is in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where we are funding 55 million nets to protect 100 million people for distribution during 2024 to 2026. We have ongoing multi-million net programmes in other countries including Chad, Guinea, Nigeria, Togo, Uganda and Zambia.
Role Description
Our activities and commitments are steadily increasing, and 2025 and 2026 will be particularly busy years of distributions, with over ~100m nets planned for distribution. In light of this, AMF is recruiting a Senior Operations Manager to join the operations team and play an important role in ensuring the success of the net distributions. We are looking for someone who has strong interpersonal and intellectual skills who is able to work collaboratively. The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking on significant responsibility by leading on several of AMF’s programmes.
The role will include involvement in all stages of a distribution campaign (pre-agreement, net procurement, post-agreement, during distribution, and post distribution) across two main areas:
- Work with National Malaria Control Programmes (NMCPs)
- Work with AMF’s independent monitoring partners

The Senior Operations Manager will lead on several of AMF’s programmes. They will work closely with NMCPs, in country partners, AMF independent monitors, the AMF Operations and Technology teams to ensure the success of AMF distributions.
More specifically, they will manage the distributions through the following stages:
1 - Pre agreement
- Establishing the funding gap
- Establishing the net need, malaria burden, insecticide resistance data
- Working with the Ministry of Health to negotiate and put in place an agreement for the programme
2 - Net procurement
- Working with AMF’s procurement lead to order nets in time for the distribution
3 - Post-agreement
- After signature of the agreement, working with countries to put in place the plans for key elements, in particular: electronic data collection, 5% re-visits, net tracking
- Tender for and select an independent partner for distribution monitoring, and work closely with this partner that will be AMF’s eyes and ears in country
4 - During the distribution
- Track information coming from monitoring partners
- Analyse with the Head of Analytics registration and distribution data and take actions if needed
- Account for all AMF nets
5 - Post distribution
- Tender for and select an independent partner for post distribution monitoring, and work closely with this partner to carry out surveys at 9, 18 and 27 months post-distribution
- Share results with in-country partners and encourage appropriate actions to be taken
Through these stages, it will be important to maintain strong relationships with the key partners, notably the National Malaria Control Programmes, distribution partners and cofounding partners to ensure that distributions are carried out according to the agreements signed between the Ministry of Health and AMF.
These relationships will ensure that solutions can be found constructively to issues that arise during implementation of AMF’s programmes. Aside from the areas above, there will be other work related to AMF Group Operations, dependent on the candidate’s skill set.

We are looking for someone who has strong interpersonal and intellectual skills, who works collaboratively in a team and relishes responsibility and the opportunity to learn and develop their abilities. The ideal candidate will be motivated to help improve the lives of those affected by the wider impacts of malaria.
Required
- Fluent French and English
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong working relationships
- Strong analytical skills and be able to use Excel confidently
- A self-starter who is highly organised with the ability to work independently and manage working time effectively
- Strong project management skills and comfort handling meetings with senior staff
- Comfort in dealing with and learning about financial matters, willing to examine budgets in detail
- At least four years work experience. The skills and potential of the candidate take priority over prior experience and we welcome applications from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
- An interest in driving down malaria rates through procedure changes and the use of technology
Of interest (but certainly not required)
- Experience working on projects based in Africa or in international development
- Malaria knowledge or background in malaria prevention or other global health campaigns
Other role details
Reporting to: Operations Director
Location: Remote working within Africa/UK/Europe time zones (all the AMF team work remotely), with a preference for UK based. Please note that applications from outside these time zones will not be reviewed.
The cost of any co-working office space will be covered by AMF. For those living outside London, trips to London during the first three months are encouraged to spend time working with the Operations Director and AMF team.
Initial salary: £50,000 to £60,000

Candidates are expected to have a fully functioning computer or laptop of at least moderate specifications and reliable internet connectivity.
Travel: travel to Africa will be expected. Trips are planned flexibly in discussion with the team. The number and duration will vary year on year, and range from approximately 4 to 8 weeks per year.

Person Specification
Candidates for this post will have a proven record of accomplishment working for a charity or environmental organisation, preferably in conservation or science. The post holder will demonstrate sensitivity to complex, multicultural and multinational institutions and structures.
