This post is to join our team to work with a broad diversity of clients. Within this client group, the common factors of support needs are housing, mental health, addiction, employment, meaningful activities and building into community.

This role will be to undertake assessments of the clients, which will lead to a comprehensive, holistic and person centred support plan. Working in conjunction with other departments of the King’s Arms Project, as well as liaising with external providers, our aim will be equip and empower clients to make the next step towards gaining more permanent accommodation.

About CARIS Families

CARIS Families is a small, frontline charity that supports families who are homeless and living in overcrowded multi-occupant hostels in the London Boroughs of Hackney and Camden. Life in temporary accommodation hostels entrenches children and their parents in poverty and disadvantage. Families suffer from acute overcrowding, inadequate basic facilities and a permanent sense of unsafety. The nature of hostel life isolates people from their support networks, decimates their physical and mental health and becomes an adverse life experience in itself for families already suffering the trauma of having become homeless.

CARIS Families exists to provide early intervention to mitigate the worst effects of hostel life and homelessness for children and parents in our four target hostels. We do this by providing hands-on play, learning and social activities to help children meet their potential, improve families’ wellbeing and build their support network.  We provide a holistic family support service that case-works with each family individually to reduce financial and other pressures on them as they wait for a permanent home.  We also use our data and learned experiences about temporary accommodation to join campaigns for reform to temporary accommodation policy and practice, both locally and nationally.

We have just received funding to employ a dedicated Housing Rights Manager for the next two years. This is an exciting addition to our team, as it will be our first staff member dedicated to helping our homeless families with their housing case. The housing system is notoriously opaque: families tell us it can be a hopeless minefield to navigate independently and that they often can’t access meaningful help with it, resulting in years-long hostel stays. Our Housing Rights Manager will step into the gap and work with families on an individual basis to gain the information and support they need to progress their housing case and expedite their move-on into a suitable home.

About the role

Our Housing Rights Manager will be a key member of our Family Support Service. They will manage a weekly drop-in clinic from within the hostels where they will assess new housing cases and develop a support plan with families. They will manage a full housing caseload of housing support work, collaborating with relevant local groups, local authority partners and law centres to progress families’ housing cases. They will learn from the barriers families tell us they face, develop CARIS Families’ housing advice service in response and use these learnings to contribute to campaigns for reform to temporary accommodation practices and policies locally and nationally.

In their first year, the Housing Rights Manager will work in partnership with housing solicitors at Shelter to write a Housing Information and Rights handbook tailored to the processes of our target boroughs. The handbook will aim to demystify the temporary accommodation system in our two boroughs, explain residents’ legal rights and help them understand their options. It will form a key part of the support we can offer and allow us to reach many more families in hostels than our small staff team can individually casework with.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a committed staff team of just 5, working in a person-centred and community-minded way to make a real difference to families on the frontline of inner-London’s housing crisis.

As Strengths and Assets Coach, you will work alongside people who have experienced homelessness to develop their personal Strengths and Assets. The goal of the work is to create a sustainable housing situation by promoting strong community links, access to training and development, employment, leisure, and volunteering opportunities.

You will use and develop a range of coaching and learning skills and techniques to facilitate person centred progression plans, using a psychologically informed approach that leads to positive change.  You will work with members to build their confidence and capacity to access wider community resources and become active citizens. You will also develop and deliver a range of engaging formal and informal learning, that is person centred in employability, volunteering, tenancy skills and personal development.

The role is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in the development of Strengths and Assets Services at Crisis Edinburgh Skylight.  This will involve working with partners across a range of sectors to develop learning and participation activities.

Skills, knowledge and experience vital to succeeding in this role:

• Experience in community education, tenancy skills development, volunteering, training, tenancy sustainment, or group work.
• Experience of working alongside marginalised groups and individuals using a coaching approach to develop strengths and assets.
• Understands the needs, issues and sensitivities of supporting people facing homelessness and other forms of social exclusion and develop practical solutions to address them.
• Awareness of the barriers to engagement and participation experienced by people facing homelessness and other forms of social exclusion and an understanding of how these might be overcome.
• An understanding of psychologically informed approaches when working with people who have experienced complex trauma and marginalised individuals

Our client provides support to people who are either experiencing or at risk of homelessness and / or have support needs. Our client is looking for an exceptional manage to take over responsibility for the management and delivery of their Housing Advice and Assessment Hub, providing a range of services for people experiencing homelessness, including people rough sleeping.

As an organisation, they offer help with building confidence whilst developing independent living skills and supporting people to address substance misuse or other health and wellbeing issues.

The role

• To foster an environment where meaningful connections are made with service users which maximise engagement and take up of services on offer.
• To maintain a detailed knowledge and understanding of relevant housing, welfare rights and benefits legislation and to act as a central resource providing expert advice and assistance which resolve or prevent homelessness or housing need.
• To have a working understanding of asylum and immigration legislation.

The candidate

• A minimum of 2 years' experience working in a related homelessness, housing or welfare advice setting, planning, co-ordinating and delivering effective housing or welfare advice services to vulnerable people.
• Expert knowledge of housing, welfare rights and benefits legislation and experience of translating this into sound information and advice.
• Experience of negotiating successful outcomes with local authority agencies/other partner agencies
• Experience of managing a project which successfully meets all contractual/outcome targets
• Experience of leading a high performing team, effectively monitoring and managing performance at an individual and team level
• Experience of managing building premises, ensuring essential servicing, repairs and maintenance are undertaken

Helping people to prepare for and manage financial health shocks is vital to Shelter’s work in preventing homelessness. As part of our efforts to reach vulnerable people earlier, our corporate volunteers are delivering Financial Health Information Sessions in their local communities, signposting people to the housing advice they need.

In this role, you will work closely with our financial corporate partners including First Direct, to engage with their employees and support them into the role of Financial Health Volunteer to increase the number of people volunteering.  Focusing on the Leeds area, you will forge relationships with local organisations to identify suitable host locations for the volunteers to deliver with. You will coordinate the sessions with the host locations, matching up volunteers with locations. You will ensure volunteers are motivated, supported to deliver, and feel connected with Shelter’s mission and valued for the part they play. Finally, you will take responsibility for collating feedback from the volunteers and host organisations, making suggestions for improvements and feeding into impact measurement.

Operations

On-site at Glass Door Night shelter venues in the boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham or Wandsworth

20 October 2024 to late April 2025 

Shifts from 6:45pm or 9:45pm to 7.15am (plus additional time if allocated driver). Hours and days of work will vary according to the needs of the service.

We are looking to recruit exceptional individuals with an open, collaborative style and a practical, can-do approach to provide a vital nightly service for our guests as Overnight Project Workers.

While experience of working within the homelessness sector or with similarly vulnerable people would be desirable, an understanding of the needs of people experiencing homelessness and working in a compassionate and flexible manner is more important and essential.

Flexibility is required, as you will be working a shift rota that will include weekends and public holidays. Due to the vulnerable group you will be working with, you will be asked to undergo an enhanced DBS check as part of our safeguarding measures prior to appointment.

Please note:

Some of our Overnight Project Workers are required to have a driving licence and be able to drive a manual vehicle.

However, this post also is still suitable for those that want a non-driving role.

On each shift, one of the two Overnight Project Workers will be an allocated driver and is expected to drive the van back to its local base in Fulham or Wandsworth, depending on the shelter circuit. The allocated driver for the shift will receive an additional hour of pay for this task.

What you will do as part of our team

The Overnight Project Worker is responsible for the following:

Job spec

• Maintaining a friendly, supportive environment and cultivating positive relationships with guests, colleagues, and volunteers.
• Following best practice procedures for the security and safety of the guests and volunteers.
• Diffusing difficult or dangerous situations and summon assistance when necessary. Training will be provided. Writing regular shift reports using the In-Form client relationship platform.
• Carrying out regular checks around the shelter, checking conditions of all areas.
• Ensuring that the van is loaded correctly with shelter provisions and that no Glass Door belongings are left on site.
• Adhering to Glass Door’s operational and health & safety policies in all aspects of your work. Maintaining clear lines of communication with your colleagues including the Night Shelter Manager, Caseworkers, and the Operations Manager.
• Ensuring cleaning protocols are followed and implemented.
• Undertaking any other duties to aid the good running of the project, as required by the Shelter Manager or Operations Manager.
• Accurately reporting observations, interactions, concerns and actions with guests to their caseworker using written reports.
• Setting up and help serve a simple breakfast for guests in the morning
• Ensuring all guests are woken from 6am onwards and leave the building by 7am
• Flexibility is required, as you will be working a shift rota that includes weekends and public holidays.

On occasions you will also be expected to attend training, team meetings and other activities as required. The allocated driver is expected to drive the van back to its allocated base at the end of the shift to which an additional hour of pay applies for this task.

Person Spec

Essential

•  Commitment to providing an excellent service and to interact with shelter guests in a positive and respectful manner.
•  Ability to work as part of a team and be a supportive team member.  Confidence in dealing with challenging behaviour.
•  Good written and verbal communications skills.  Ability to carry out manual handling tasks.
•  Understanding of and commitment to Equal Opportunities.
•  Driver shifts only: Valid driver’s license and willingness to driver the shelter van

Desirable

• Experience working within the homelessness sector or with similarly vulnerable people.
• Ability to speak additional languages including but not limited to Polish, Romanian, Arabic, Spanish, French, Bulgarian, Russian or Tigrinya.
• Lived experience of homelessness.
• An understanding and value of trauma informed care.
• Relevant training certificates (First aid, health & safety, fire Safety, conflict de-escalation).

We have an exciting new opportunity to join the team as our Community Fundraising Officer. You will be raising funds and awareness to benefit people moving on from homelessness living in our supported housing service and additional projects.

Community Fundraiser
Salary: £30,128 - £33,413 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about fundraising, marketing and community engagement, supporting the Trustees and Senior Management Team to develop the fundraising strategy. Managing and building existing partnerships, building new income generation strategies, promoting the charities awareness to the local community, corporate and individual supporters.

Key Responsibilities

• Raise Cambridge Cyrenians local profile and social media presence, including regular press releases
• Working with Trustees and Senior Staff to develop and deliver Cambridge Cyrenians’ fundraising strategy
• Identify and secure additional fundraising opportunities
• Engage with local companies to develop corporate support from the business community
• Keep track of fundraised income and expenditure
• Produce quarterly supporter newsletters on Mailchimp and LinkedIn • Lead Community Events Working Group to develop and deliver community events
• Develop and deliver seasonal campaigns and sponsorship challenges to grow Cambridge Cyrenians’ supporter base through one-off and regular donations
• Maintain individual donor records in Cambridge Cyrenians’ CRM (Donorfy), ensuring Gift-Aid claims are submitted and donors are thanked in a timely manner
• Maintain Wordpress website and fundraising platforms (JustGiving, GivenGain)
• Manage social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn • Develop Cambridge Cyrenians’ legacy fundraising stream
• Ensure all fundraising is GDPR compliant and complies with the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice
• Be passionate and advocate on behalf of Cambridge Cyrenians’ work
• Network locally to build relationships working flexibly to attend local events

Our client has an exciting opportunity to join them as a Homeownership Officer working in a small, busy team which manages the delivery of their home ownership service. 

What you will be doing 

On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for shared ownership sales, re-sales and staircasing activities, as well as Right to Buy, Right to Acquire and other sales processes.

About you
