Digital Editor

Contract: 12-month fixed term contract, to start as soon as possible. Full-time (35 hours per week)

Salary: £39,358 – £41,325 (depending on experience) with excellent benefits 

Location: London, UK
Hybrid working: A minimum of 40% of working time is spent face to face, either in London office, or as a result of external engagement or travel for WaterAid. About the Team:
Fundraising and communications at WaterAid is ambitious, dynamic and rewarding. This post sits within the Digital Content and Experience team (DCX), which manages our online platforms and content, and delivers unique digital experiences designed to raise awareness, inspire brand love and stimulate action through a variety of channels. The team also supports WaterAid colleagues globally.

The Digital Content and Experience team is part of the Communications Department within the Communications and Fundraising Directorate. The team is at the forefront of sector-leading, award-winning campaigns and products, thanks to a multi-disciplinary outlook and a test-and-learn culture. 

About the Role:
As our creative and meticulous Digital Editor you will take day-to-day responsibility for content on WaterAid's UK audience focussed digital channels, creating high-quality, user-centred material which compels people to act, while communicating organisational priorities.  

In this role, you will create, commission and publish first-class digital content in a variety of formats (text, image, video etc.) to support our communications, fundraising and advocacy objectives, across web, social and email.

You’ll also: 

  • Act as digital lead for select projects, planning and developing web, social and email components, working across all levels to influence, advise and negotiate this content.   
  • Work closely with colleagues across Fundraising and Communications to ensure integration and consistency of messages with all campaign activity, and ensuring content meets the needs of identified audiences. 
  • Demonstrate a meticulous attention to spelling, grammar and editorial style, adhering to guidelines and ensuring copy is suitable for its target audience.
  • Analyse web, email and social traffic data to maximise the potential of all content.

About You:

  • A track record in, and passion for, digital communications and copywriting.    
  • A solid understanding of content design, SEO techniques, user experience and web accessibility.   
  • Proficiency in Google Analytics, analysing large amounts of data and making decisions that bring about positive change.   
  • Significant experience of working with content management systems and basic HTML. 
  • Strategic understanding of the social media landscape, platform best practice and social media marketing.

Although not essential, we also prefer you to have:

  • Excellent stakeholder and project management skills, diplomacy, written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Experience in the third sector in a digital content role.  
  • Experience of producing videos for social media. 
  • Experience of using an email service provider such as Dotdigital.
