About the role:
This role is based in our office in Rumney Police Station, Cardiff, CF3 4FD.
The purpose of this role is to provide support to victims, ensuring that South Wales Victim Focus succesfully helps people cope and recover from the effects of crime. South Wales Victim Focus serves diverse communities, many of whom experience a range of barriers that may impact on their ability to cope and recover from what they have experienced. These can include financial distress; social isolation; reduced mobility; mental and physical health issues; substance use and lack of opportunity. South Wales Victim Focus aims to identifying what matters to service users and empower them to take control of their journey.
As a Victim Care Officer you will work as part of a team providing direct support to the victims of crime ensuring they have appropriate information and resources to recover from their experiences.
You will need:
- Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and the impact of crime on victims and witnesses
- Knowledge of a range of voluntary and statutory agencies
- Knowledge of safeguarding issues and legislation
- Experience of working in a challenging and changing environment
- Able to work without direct supervision
- Knowledge of the importance of confidentiality and data protection
- Ability to gather, analyse and use information and evidence from different sources
- Problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively
