Job description

This role offers an exciting development opportunity to work in British Asian Trust’s highly experienced Programme Fundraising Team, working alongside and learning from some exceptionally skilled senior fundraisers.

BAT’s programmes tackle problems and inequalities in the areas of education, livelihoods, mental health, child protection and conservation in South Asia, with this team building long-term relationships with trusts and foundations, companies and statutory/institutional funders across all these thematic areas of work.

As Programme Funding Officer you will focus on developing relationships with Trusts & Foundations with the capacity to give up to £50,000 annually. You will manage a small pool of existing funders whilst also focusing on further developing this portfolio, taking ownership of these relationships and finding appropriate funding opportunities. Alongside this you will provide support to the wider fundraising team, assisting with larger funder relationships and the development of written materials, systems and processes.

We’re looking for an individual who has some expertise of working within a high value fundraising team, with strong written skills to support the development of proposals/reports and with the autonomy to lead creatively on these materials for trusts and foundations audiences. You’ll have a proactive approach to prospect research and solicitation, critically assessing information to make informed approaches and develop relationships with existing/prospective funders to ultimately build a robust portfolio of small to medium sized trusts and foundations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifying and securing new funding from trusts and foundations, focused on securing 4- and 5-figure partnerships across all of BAT’s core thematic areas
  • Build strong internal relationships cross-organisationally to support the development of written proposals/reports
  • Maintain and develop a portfolio of small to medium sized trusts and foundations, ensuring excellent donor stewardship by creating bespoke communications and funding applications
  • Take a proactive approach to prospect research, qualifying donors (lapsed and new) and maximising potential with relevant networks
  • Manage and maintain effective records on the CRM (Salesforce) to ensure information remains relevant and up to date
  • Support the wider Programme Fundraising Team as required

Person Specification:

  • Experience of developing written materials for high value audiences, with an understanding of donor relations
  • Knowledge and interest in international development issues, with a curious nature to learn more about the work of BAT
  • Expertise in maintaining/developing relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) and funders
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to think critically/be solutions focused – this role offers a high level of independence, with full support of an experienced team

If you’re excited about taking on this impactful role and further supporting the success of British Asian Trust, we’d love to hear from you!
