Tearfund has created a new role intended to strengthen Tearfund's safeguarding policies, practice and culture within Tearfund and with all our delivery partners globally.

This is an exciting new opportunity for an experienced professional to lead, develop and champion this critical area of our work.

The successful candidate will be up to date on the UK legislative framework, Charity Commission requirements and a good understanding of regional and global standards on safeguarding. The successful candidate will play a strategic role on behalf of Tearfund in developing sector wide best practice.  They will have a key role in supporting the development of safeguarding best practice across our programme work as well as each aspect of Tearfund's work globally.

An important part of their role will be to promote good practice and lead and commission training with Tearfund staff and delivery partners to develop our knowledge and practice.  They will play a central role in case management, pastoral care advice, investigations, compliance and reporting to the Executive Team, Board, and relevant authorities and agencies.

You will have:

  • Recent and significant experience of safeguarding in a multi-disciplinary context
  • Experience of working alongside the Christian faith community in the application of safeguarding best practice
  • In-depth knowledge of the UK statutory legislative framework for safeguarding children and adults at risk as well as Charity Commission guidance
  • Good understanding of regional and global standards on safeguarding and versatility in managing complex safeguarding incidents across programme implementation countries
  • Significant experience of developing and implementing safeguarding policies and protocols to strengthen strong safeguarding practices in a global context
  • Strong written and verbal skills across culture and all levels of the organisation

Contract: This is a part time role working 28 hours per week.

The recruitment process will include specific checks related to safeguarding. In addition, personal identification information will be submitted against a Watchlist database to check against criminal convictions as a counter-terror measure.
