Job description

The post holder focus would be on day-to-day business of SWP charity and to support the work of the wider Partnership. The post holder will be responsible for routine questions from Partners and act as first point of call for routine financial matters. 

The management accountant will provide accurate and timely financial information to the Board, Senior Leadership Team and External Partners on a regular basis; carry out a range of financial functions, reporting, procedures and controls.

This role reports to the SWP Finance Lead, but will link closely with the CEO and committee chairs, as well as partner teams, as required

Your job will include:

  • Managing and reconciling bank accounts and credit cards
  • Processing sales and purchase invoices, receipts, and payments
  • Balance sheet reconciliations and producing monthly trial balance report.
  • Staff expenses management 
  • Managing all banking processes, preparing payment batches in the online banking system, and posting receipts and payments to the accounting system ensuring accuracy
  • Processing and reconciling VAT returns including adjustments for unrecoverable/partly recoverable VAT
  • Supporting with the preparation of the monthly management accounts, annual reports and financial statements
  • Assisting and providing the updating of cash flow reports, budgets, and forecasts
  • Assisting with the production of routine reports for Board and Sub Committees
  • Identifying and escalating issues relating to payments, invoices, cash flow and banking matters to support Board and Sub-Committees
  • Support with the preparation of year-end accounts to trial balance and the annual audit process
  • Implementing new accounting procedures if required
  • Organisation and filing of financial paperwork, including keeping accounting software up to date (e.g. payslips, leave etc).
  • Providing input into relevant policies and processes
  • Providing input to wider financial analysis as relevant and requested

Experience, Knowledge, and qualifications

  • Fully or part qualified (ACCA, CIMA) or similar or fully qualified (AAT or similar) or qualified by experience 5+ years.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Highly computer literate (Windows, MS Office, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Advanced knowledge/experience of accounting packages (Xero or QuickBooks will be an advantage)
  • Understanding of PAYE & NIC
  • At least 3 years working in a similar role (in the charity sector ideally)
  • You are available for a minimum 2 days per week and whilst the role is home-based, there may be occasional requirement to travel to Surrey
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
