An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Skills Centre Manager to join a fantastic healthcare charity, based in Godalming.
Location: Godalming, Surrey
Salary: £38,000 - £40,000
As Skills Centre Manager, you will lead the Charity’s Skills Centre and Social Hub. This service supports vulnerable adults with a wide range of needs to be active members of the community, increase independence, develop life skills, and set goals and achievements to work toward.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the smooth operational running of the Skills Centre via the management of a medium sized team of activity co-ordinators.
- Planning & developing a vibrant and refreshed timetable of activities / events which promotes independence, wellbeing and choice.
- Producing KPI reports and manage budget with support from CEO and Head of Finance.
- Being responsible for the collection, recording and safe storage of information about service users in the form of up-to-date confidential files and a daily register of attendance.
- Carrying out and update risk assessments / care plans / daily records to support annual reviews.
- Overseeing and transforming the Café into a fully operational social hub.
- Seeking opportunities to engage with the wider community in ways that promote the social inclusion of beneficiaries, as well as the service.
- Building and fostering relationships with professionals from adult social care and Health authorities.
The successful candidate will have previous experience supporting adults with disabilities, as well as experience working in an activities centre in a management position. A general understanding of the operational needs of a day centre/skills centre within a social care setting is key, as is an understanding of health and wellbeing leading to meaningful relationships (Mental Health signs and symptoms). You must also be computer literate and experienced in using or teaching others how to use Microsoft Office. An extroverted personality to continually motivate others is vital!

About this vital role
Our successful candidate’s focus will be to provide operational management support across one or more contracts awarded by the HMPPS to deliver Finance, Benefit and Debt (FBD) services in Wales. This will see you provide leadership and operational management support in debt and welfare benefits to a team of Financial Wellbeing Coaches (FWCs), Team Leaders and Administration team employed in the delivery of the contracts, and to plan and support the day-to-day workload for the team and setting performance objectives with the team and monitor progress.
You will also be expected to monitor and manage all aspects of delivery and performance to ensure compliance with policy and procedures and to manage partnerships including local and national delivery partners and any agencies with whom we are developing referral arrangements. Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with local Wales Probation managers and staff and other external stakeholders is an essential part of this role, as is providing regular reports in a range of formats to the Service Manager and monitoring use of the Customer Approved Database including regular reports on usage to ensure accuracy and timeliness of inputting by teams.
What we are looking for
- Experience of working in or managing services supporting challenging people
- Experience in working in or managing multi-agency partnerships working towards common objectives and outcomes
- Evidence of training at specialist level in money and/or welfare benefits advice from an accredited training provider
- Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of managing a caseload
- Wide range of money advice knowledge, budgeting, dealing with priority and non-priority debts, County Court/High Court options, insolvency options and welfare benefits
- Ability to coach and mentor staff to motivate and facilitate optimum performance in a team
- Strong IT, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities
As a Team Coordinator you will: 30% Hands Off (to include, but exclusive of)
- Deliver One-to-Ones for Support workers.
- Complete Return to Work interviews for Support Workers
- Chair some Micro-Team Meetings where required.
- Carry out observations of social care practice, including medication assessments.
- Take a lead role in Quality Assurance audits and other management reporting duties where required.
- Contribute to the writing on care plans, including assessment and risk management plans.
- Support On Call once a month by being available to cover last minute Support Worker absence for which you will be paid £150 retainer plus your hourly rate for any support delivered. (On call start at 5pm on a Fri to 9am the following Mon)
- Support roster writing and making amendments to roster where required.
- Work 70% of your time providing direct support with 30% being management duties.
- Be open to direction from your Locality Manager.
- Build and maintain professional working relationship with your teams and colleagues.
Essential requirements include:
- Hole a Full driving licence. Have access to a reliable car with business insurance.
- Have the ability/be willing to travel across Somerset and bordering counties.
- Hold at least two years’ experience of working with autistic people and people with a learning disability or complex needs.
- Hold a Level 3 in Health and Social Care or be committed to achieving this.
- Ability to deal with challenging situations in a calm and effective manner, managing risk.

Duties Include:
- Deliver services based on the expressed wishes, cultural needs and support plans of those who use our services.
- Assist and encourage people to make choices and life decisions in line with the Mental capacity Act.
- Facilitate the accessing of local social and community facilities.
- Assist and encourage people to engage in everyday home, social, leisure and work activities based on their personal choices.
- Support people to manage their own homes, including supporting people to manage their own tenancies and providing safe support and guidance where necessary.
- Provide direct personal care and support in line with the individuals support plan which may include toileting and bathing if required.

- Support those who use our services to take prescribed medication as directed by appropriately qualified and trained health professionals
- Contribute toward the personal development of those who use our services through promoting, enabling and developing communication. Provide stimulation through the planning and delivery of programmed activities.
- Follow confidential processes for the appropriate collecting, handling and storage of information. Maintain any records pertaining to those who use our services. Effectively communicate information to those who have a need for such information. Contribute toward statistical returns and secure financial record keeping, including the personal finances of each person served.
- Contribute toward You First’s Life Design assessment process and the development of Person-Centred Support Plans in conjunction with team colleagues, the person we support, their family and other key professionals.
- Assist and advise those who use our services with basic personal finance management and local shopping activities as directed and when required.
- To support team colleagues and respond to the immediate health and well-being needs of those who use our services by ensuring timely support and professional assistance is obtained from team colleagues and others, when required.
- Day to day contact with a range of health and social care professionals and other agencies. To pass and receive information relating to those who use our services. To plan and contribute toward and attend meetings as a member of the care support team.
- To take responsibility and joint ownership for own personal and professional development. To access training as and when required and to contribute toward effective and innovative care.
- Act as a role model and mentor to new staff. Undertakes wake in nights and sleep-in as and when required under the direction of the management team.

The AFRUCA Child Protection Family Support Service sits within AFRUCA as one of our most impactful programmes targeting families from a range of ethnic backgrounds across England and Wales. The service works closely with local authorities children’s services in cases involving families on child protection plans or in court proceedings. We provide direct one to one training and support for parents to aid their ability to provide appropriate parenting and ensure a safer, happier home environment for their children.
The AFRUCA Child Protection Service currently has a team of five qualified social workers and supports over 50 families each year. We also provide a therapeutic service where children are being reunified with their parents. We are establishing a child protection legal drop in service for families in contact with children’s services and an advocacy service for parents in the child protection system.
Most of our families are referred by local authorities children’s services as a result of cultural and religious practices which are deemed harmful to children’s well-being. We offer qualified social workers who do not wish to work in the statutory sector with an alternative approach to practising social work where empathy, kindness and support is key to our work with families. Our ultimate aim is a reduction of children in Black and Ethnic communities going into or remaining in foster care. We offer a non oppressive and non judgemental service that helps to promote the well-being of children in safe families.
