Are you a qualified financial accounting professional who has led large and complex organisations through year-end? Do you know how to establish and maintain effective financial controls? Could you lead a team of five direct reports with a wider team of 30?

This fixed term Head of Financial Accounting and Control will play a pivotal role in the organisation and will report directly to the Group Financial Controller. You will be instrumental in managing the financial control team and will ensure the financial control team supports the wider organisation in meeting our ambitious goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and inspire the financial accounting and processing teams and promote a culture of strong financial control across the organisation.
  • Build and maintain robust relationships with other divisions to ensure effective control, accountability, and discipline.
  • Oversee operational treasury activities, including short-term cash management and forecasting.
  • Maintain effective banking relationships, focusing on fraud prevention and investment income growth.
  • Lead external reporting activities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and practices.
  • Manage changes to reporting requirements and oversee the external audit relationship.
  • Ensure compliance with VAT, corporation tax, gift aid legislation, and other HMRC requirements.
  • Plan and manage the impact of regulatory or accounting standard changes, communicating and educating across the organisation.

This fixed term Head of Financial Accounting and Control vacancy has arisen to cover a 12-18 month secondment internally and will be based at the central London office offering hybrid working. This position will best suit someone from a financial accounting and control background who can demonstrate experience in large organisations.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a fully qualified Accountant.
  • Have a background in compliance, treasury, technical accounting and year-end reporting.
  • Be an effective communicator.
  • Have proven experience in managing and developing teams, including both qualified Accountants.
  • Be able to demonstrate experience in the charity or wider public sector, self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
