RSPCA OXFORDSHIRE
Do you want to make a difference to the lives of animals in Oxfordshire? This is a hands-on role doing all sorts of varied tasks from rescuing a pigeon to answering the phone.
Overview of opportunity
As a Volunteer General Assistant, you would provide support to the Operations Manager in a range of roles. It might be dropping off a cat trap, collecting an injured animal and taking it to the vet or a wildlife sanctuary to answering the phone and administration. This is a varied role that enables you to learn all about the rehabilitation and rehoming of animals and the lovely people who choose to adopt from the RSPCA.

The Oxfordshire RSPCA was founded in 1875, we have been saving animals for 150 years and are proud to be part of the oldest welfare charity around. It has always been our vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion, so our volunteers and employees work tirelessly to ensure that all animals can live free from pain and suffering.
The OXFORDSHIRE Branch is an independent and registered charity looking after animals in our local area. Much of the animal welfare work of RSPCA is carried out through local branches, which is run by volunteers who have the support of the National Society of RSPCA.
The main activity of our branch is to rescue and rehabilitate animals the Inspectors rescued from cruelty and neglect.
Volunteer General Assistant responsibilities
- Rescuing injured wildlife – training will be given
- Setting cat traps, collecting cats and transportation
- Answering the phone
- Collecting donated food
- Completion of adoption paperwork
- Updating and maintaining the Animal Shelter Manager database
- Follow up contact with adopters’ post-adoption
- Making up adoption/foster packs
What we are looking for in a Volunteer General Assistant
- Physically fit
- Have a flexible approach
- Good written and verbal communication and organisational skills
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Computer literation and ideally has experience with databases and data input
- Attention to detail
- Comfortable and confident with handling animals
- Volunteers must be aged 18 or over
- A driving licence and use of a vehicle

Our voluntary roles are subject to an informal interview and trial period. We will ask you to provide contact details for two referees, and dependant on the position, you may need to sign an agreement and undergo specific training before starting the role.
