Job description

Do you have experience of working on a high-volume accounts payable system (ideally Unit 4 Business World), plus a real desire to further develop your career in finance? Then join Shelter as an Accounts Payable Coordinator and you could soon be playing an important finance support role within one of the UK’s leading charities.

About the role

A great opportunity to be part of a finance team that collaborates and communicates to help deliver Shelter’s mission and vision, it will see you get involved in a range of financial support activities. One day you might be performing reconciliations, posting journal entries or resolving issues identified while working to a deadline, the next registering Invoices, preparing supplier payment runs, approving staff expenses and credit card spend or providing petty cash training for colleagues. Ensuring that all transactions and records kept are timely and accurate and that robust controls are maintained, managing a busy team inbox and dealing with supplier and internal queries – all are aspects of this interesting and varied role.

About you

As well as some relevant experience, you’ll need excellent attention to detail and a high level of numeracy. Comfortable working as part of a team and on your own initiative, you’re great at managing your time effectively too, including having the ability to work to deadlines and reprioritise tasks when required. Proficiency using the main MS Office applications, including Outlook and Word, is also required, while intermediate Excel skills are also essential.

Apply to be part of our team and be the change you want to see in society.

Benefits

We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.

We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.

About the team

This role sits within the Financial Control Team. We prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations to help make sure our internal and external reporting is accurate. We also lead on effective credit control to optimise cash flow, so that Shelter can carry on making a real difference to the people we are here to help.
