Job description

Our client is the largest professional association and union of nursing staff and students in the UK. We promote nursing interests, represent and campaign on behalf of our members and the people they care for. We're also a leading player in the development of nursing policy and practice. We work to represent nurses and nursing, promoting excellence in practice and shaping health policies.

Chair of EDI Committee
Location: London
Unremunerated, with expenses paid, including travel to support attendance at board meetings when required

The organisation aims to be the exemplar nursing union and professional body embedding consideration, reflection and impactful action on equity, diversity, and inclusion into all decisions and activity. We aim to ensure that we work tirelessly to build an organisation where inequity, discrimination, and racism are eliminated within the organisation and proactively challenged on behalf of our members externally as a part of the fabric.

We are now looking to appoint a Chair to lead the organisation's Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee. The EDI Committee oversees the implementation of our EDI strategy; manages and prioritises funding within the agreed annual programme budget across workstreams; and connects into our Council, the Professional Nursing Committee, the Trade Union Committee, and our EDI networks.

We are seeking candidates who hold demonstrable experience of successfully developing and implementing EDI strategies in a professional capacity within complex organisations. In addition, candidates should have:

  • An ability to chair meetings and to support the committee to make effective decisions.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and command respect.
  • A commitment to ensuring effective member engagement.
  • The ability to drive through change.
