Repton Community Trust is a dynamic and community-focused charity committed to enriching lives across Ashford, Kent. Since opening Repton Connect Community Centre in 2018, we have welcomed over 40,000 attendees to our events, skill-building sessions, and support services, helping individuals find a sense of community and fulfilment. Our innovative People's Pantry project started with a single community fridge and now supports over 12,000 people annually, combating food insecurity through a social supermarket model and mobile e-van service that reaches rural areas with limited resource access.

At Repton Community Trust, we’re seeking an experienced and visionary leader to join us as the Chair of the Board. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of our organisation and, more importantly, to make a significant and lasting impact on the communities we serve.

The Role:

As Chair of the Board, you will provide strategic leadership, working closely with the CEO, Board members, and stakeholders to guide the Trust through its next stage of growth and development. Your key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Strategic Leadership: Ensuring the Board delivers the organisation's long-term strategic objectives while driving innovation and growth.
  • Governance: Leading the Board in ensuring the Trust complies with all relevant legal, financial, and management requirements.
  • Advocacy: Acting as the public face of the Trust, fostering relationships with key stakeholders, funders, and community groups.
  • Board Effectiveness: Enhancing the effectiveness of the Board by promoting strong governance, accountability, and performance monitoring.
  • Mentorship: Supporting the CEO and leadership team in making informed decisions and ensuring they have the guidance and resources to lead successfully.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership or governance role, ideally within the charity or community sector.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit governance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to inspire, lead, and build consensus across a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Passion for community development and a commitment to advancing the social mission of Repton Community Trust.
  • A thorough understanding of community organisations' challenges and opportunities, particularly in Kent or similar regions.
