Telephone Carers Support Officer
Opportunity to join the Adult Carer Support team as a Telephone Carers Support Officer
A carer is someone who provides support to family or friends who could not manage without this help. This could be caring for a someone who is ill, frail, disabled, or has mental health or substance misuse problems. All the care they give is unpaid.
Carers Support Centre (CSC) Bristol and South Gloucestershire provide a wide range of support services to carers for adult and young (children) carers.
We currently have a vacancy for a Telephone Carers Support Officer to work on our CarersLine service based at the CSC offices in the Vassall Centre, Fishponds. This post will deliver the CarersLine Information, Advice and Support service.
You will join a busy and supportive team that provide several services to support unpaid carers in Bristol and South Gloucestershire, which include advice and information, carers assessments, one to one support, CarersLine, and Carers Emergency Cards.
Hours of work: 26.5 hours (Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday 9am – 5pm. Friday 9.30 am – 1.30 pm.)
Actual Salary: £17, 952 (pro-rata) for 26.5 hours. (FTE £25,406)
Based at the CSC Offices at the Vassall Centre, Fishponds
The role will include:
Responding to calls to the CarersLine service (telephone advice service) and to requests for information, advice, guidance and support.
Responding to e-mails to the CarersLine service and to requests for information, advice, guidance and support
Researching information requested by carers and responding to enquiries in a timely manner.
Referring and signposting carers to internal and external services where appropriate
Undertaking ‘casework’ support and interventions by phone for more complex enquiries
Undertaking telephone-based assessments / reviews, supporting the wider Carers Support Officer (CSO) team.
To fulfil this role, you will need:
Recent and relevant experience of information, support and advice work
An excellent understanding of the needs and issues for carers
Demonstrable experience of working with individuals needing emotional and practical support
Recent experience of providing support to a diverse community
Ability to prioritise and manage a busy workload
Good verbal and written communication skills
Computer literacy and experience of working with a client database
