Board Member - Community Energy South
Take part in managing community led and owned renewable energy projects for the MaidEnergy Community Benefit Society
What will you be doing?
MaidEnergy is an established community business operating across Maidenhead, Windsor, North Surrey and surrounding areas as needed. The Society has produced 8 rooftop solar projects and one ground source heat pump on leisure and school facilities, through support and investment of £970k by over 250 members who have an equal vote. We are also investigating the feasibility of installing a hydro energy plant on the Thames, since our success in securing £140k in government funding towards the study - bringing in paid experts to assess the opportunity.
Community Energy South is a capacity building non-profit which has secured National Lottery Funding for our Society, and 10 others, to pay for staff. This means we have a special opportunity to grow and deliver more community energy, faster.
This growth needs strong management by the board, which is why four additional board members are required to help run the Society alongside the existing team of five. While we are already a diverse team, we are keen to maintain this in terms of background, culture, abilities, experiences and approaches.
Tasks include: data management, project management, design/review of leases, site relationships, volunteer management, procurement, web upgrade, lead on marketing and admin to name a few.
We need people who are committed to climate change mitigation, diligent, proactive, imaginative and who will enjoy working with our lovely, driven team.
Time Commitment
1-3 hours / week. Unsure of hours needed as depends on skills offered
What are we looking for?
In general, management experience is needed. This can be in any area relevant to the previous description including: change management, project/operations management, engineering relative to renewables projects, coordinating staff/volunteers, marketing etc.
We aim to ensure all skills are present across the Board.
What difference will you make?
As part of our leadership you will support and shape our work, growth and strategic direction, as well as help us achieve our purpose to grow locally generated and locally owned renewable energy.
This is a vital role, and as a board member (technically a volunteer director), you will have a real opportunity to offer your unique skill set to help the strategic progression of the Society.
We meet as a board online once per month plus occasional additional meetings in person for project-specific activities.
