Job description

Join Our Board of Trustees
Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester, an independent charity supporting families with young children, is seeking two new Trustees to help shape our future.  We’re looking for someone with HR and someone with Fundraising expertise to provide strategic input and serve as a sounding board for our operational team. No prior Trustee experience is needed—training and support will be provided.

We are keen to diversify our Board to reflect the communities we work in and also bring a broader range of skills and experience to add to the mix of experience we currently have.

About the role

Whilst we would of course welcome somebody with previous Trustee experience, this is potentially a great opportunity for somebody who hasn’t been a Trustee before as our board is currently a mix of longer-serving, experienced, Trustees who can help to support you as a new Trustee, alongside newer Trustees, so you wouldn’t be the only new person. We would like you to:

·       Take an active interest in how we provide our services to people.

·       Be an advocate of Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester.

·       Balance the aspirations and enthusiasm for our activities with the ability to review, assess and make pragmatic decisions about the issues and opportunities we face.

·        Attend Board of Trustee meetings (4 per year)

·       Attend and support the work of one or more Steering Groups and Committee meetings (4 each per year), bringing your experience and any expertise.

·       Review relevant policies as updates become available or require amendments.

·       Participate in some key events that support the charity, notably involving fund-raising and engaging with funding organisations.

Who We're Looking For:

  • A caring, non-judgmental person who values confidentiality and diversity.
  • Someone willing to commit time, with good communication skills and a team spirit.
  • A strong advocate for our mission to help local families thrive.

What difference will you make?

With the other Trustees, you will be ultimately responsible for ensuring that our charity continues to support families in the Stroud and Gloucester District with young children in the best way possible. You will also ensure that our staff and volunteers are supported in their work and have the resources they need to help families to flourish and thrive.

Bringing your skills and experience to the Stroud and Gloucester District will help us to become a stronger Charity that can build on its valued support to families and children in the area.

Being a Trustee with us is rewarding and fulfilling, and we'd love to welcome you to the team.
