Prison and Probation Housing Advice Workers

London

£35,578 - £39,227 pro rata

Secondment/fixed term opportunities until 31 March 2025 with the possibility of extension

Do you want to work in a role where you can support people to rebuild their lives?

Our client is currently looking for a Custody and Probation HAWk worker to be based in a Prison Establishment and Probation Delivery Unit (PDU). To support The Probation Services objective in reducing reoffending by preventing and ending homelessness.

They are a high achieving team that are undergoing an expansion, making this a great opportunity for someone who is interested in working in a prison to support homeless ex-offenders to help rebuild their lives.

The post requires the successful candidate to be on site 5 days a week (9:00 – 17:00)

In this role you will:

  • Support clients to retain existing accommodation or to relinquish tenancies to avoid accruing rent arrears and debt.
  • Support clients who will be homeless on release to access appropriate accommodation.
  • Work alongside The Probation Service to achieve set interventions to prevent homelessness
  • Work as part of a larger team based across 10 prisons and multiple probation offices
  • Monitor and manage case load through the case monitoring systems
  • Respond to new referrals in accordance with contractual timeframes
  • Contribute to effective partnership working with Prisons, Probation, Local Authorities and others to enable suitable support plans and/or personal housing plans to be produced.

  • Consider existing risk assessments including engagement with MAPPA when making housing referrals so clients can access safe accommodation that reduces risk and promotes recovery.

Note, they have both full time and part time positions available in multiple locations

About you

They are looking for someone who has a passion in working with ex-offenders and people who are homeless/at risk of becoming homeless.

The successful candidate will also;

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency team within the prison and probation environment and to maintain effective relationships with external agencies.
  • Be able to work flexibly in a changing and often challenging environment
  • Work to agreed deadlines and targets.
  • Support clients with multiple needs, who may display challenging behaviour.
  • Accurately report and record progress of work in a timebound fashion, in line with the contract requirements.

They are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. They strongly encourage applications from all under-represented groups.

Closing date: 10am on 9 October 2024

*Applications will be sent over periodically with interviews for successful candidates arranged on an ongoing basis.
