Are you passionate about supporting communities and looking to build a career in the advice sector? IRMO, in partnership with The Baytree Centre, High Trees, LAWRS, and Southwark Law Centre, is recruiting four Trainee Advisers as part of our Advice Workforce Development Programme.
This 12-month paid traineeship offers hands-on experience, structured training, and the opportunity to gain a Level 3 qualification in Information, Advice, and Guidance (IAG)—providing a strong foundation for a career in housing and welfare advice.
About the Role
As a Welfare & Housing Trainee Adviser, you will:
✔️ Provide direct support to individuals facing housing and welfare challenges
✔️ Receive supervision from experienced advisers and Southwark Law Centre
✔️ Develop knowledge of the welfare and housing system
✔️ Work towards a professional qualification and career progression in the advice sector
Who We’re Looking For
Essential Criteria
✅ At least one year’s experience (paid or voluntary) working with individuals in a supportive role (e.g. care worker, teaching assistant, mentor, project worker)
✅ Strong people skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with service users
✅ A structured and organised approach to work
✅ A commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in service delivery
✅ Good spoken and written English and strong IT skills
Desirable Criteria
⭐ Experience working in a community setting
⭐ Knowledge of welfare and housing issues affecting communities in the UK
⭐ Additional language skills:

Spanish (for IRMO & The Baytree Centre)

Portuguese or Spanish (for LAWRS) – Preference for Portuguese speakers

Understanding of issues facing Latin Americans in the UK (IRMO & LAWRS roles)
Please note: Some roles at LAWRS and The Baytree Centre are women-only positions due to the nature of the work (as per Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010).
Job Details
- Location: Office-based (Baytree, High Trees, IRMO) / Hybrid (LAWRS)
- Hours: Full-time (35 hrs/week) or part-time (min. 28 hrs/week)
- Salary: £25,207 per year (pro rata)
- Contract: 12-month fixed-term
