Job description

The Finance Team at Alzheimer’s Research UK is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the Charity and providing timely and accurate financial information. The team is responsible for ensuring there is a strong financial control environment, and for providing support and advice on all finance matters to employees across the charity.

You will be required to be in the office at least two days per week and will have a high level of financial acumen and understanding. As the Finance Manager - Transactional Accounting, you will be involved in all aspects of managing a busy finance function, including managing the day-to-day operational finances of the organisation, and managing the transactional team.  Working alongside the Finance Manager - Compliance, Controls & Reporting and the transactional finance team, you will ensure a seamless finance function, ensuring that financial information is timely and accurate, and that all control accounts are reconciled and up to date. 

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

· Support the development and implementation of best financial practices.

· Manage the charity’s financial accounting systems, including transactional processing, user set up and maintenance, permissions, and approval paths.

· Ensure month end accounts and reconciliations are complete, accurate and on time.

· Process Gift Aid claims and liaise with HMRC as necessary.

· Process all financial transactions on behalf of Alzheimer’s Brain Bank, a small joint venture company in which we hold a 50% share.

· Check payroll calculations and post month end payroll transactions.

· Work with members of the Finance team to ensure that Finance procedures are understood across the charity and are consistently adhered to.

· Manage the interface between the finance system and the donations database (Salesforce) to ensure timely recognition of all income to the charity.

· Together with the Finance Manager - Compliance, Controls & Reporting, lead the annal audit process.

· Manage and supervise the Finance team, including but not limited to carrying out annual performance appraisals and overseeing the development of the team.

· Provide advice and guidance to the Finance team, overseeing income and expenditure management, sales and purchase ledgers, employee expenses and longer-term projects.

· Review new income streams and put in place appropriate processes to ensure strong financial control and reconciliation of income.

· Provide cover for the Finance Manager - Compliance, Controls & Reporting as required.

· Undertake any other relevant duties and projects delegated by the Head of Finance, in line with the responsibilities of the post.

 

What we are looking for:

· ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification, or qualified by experience.

· Experience in a previous finance role.

· Experience of managing a team.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including an advanced knowledge of Excel, with an understanding of functions such as Pivot Tables and Formulas.

· Experience in using a finance system to extract information or reports and to post journals.

· Experience in identifying and resolving errors in financial information.

· Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and numeracy skills.

· Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage workload effectively and work proactively.

· Ability to communicate effectively to colleagues at all levels across the Charity.

· Passionate, proactive, and friendly attitude.

· Methodical and adaptable approach.

· Ability to interrogate and reconcile financial data.

· Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills, particularly in relation to reconciliation of figures.

· Strong ethical standards and a high level of personal integrity.

Additional Information:

Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

Roles that are classed as part of the Agile ways of working are not able to claim any costs for Mileage/Travel on Public Transport, Accommodation and/or Meals.  This includes when attending the office for various meetings/events.

Our Office: Our office is at 3 Riverside, Granta Park, Great Abington, Cambridge, CB21 6AD. 

Salary: Circa £50,000 per annum, plus benefits
