Job description

Hong Kong Watch is currently seeking an experienced Executive Director to effectively lead and manage the organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing a wide range of functions including strategies, finance, operations, and human resources. It is crucial for the Executive Director to provide strategic direction in order to achieve the organisation’s mission and goals. Furthermore, this role will serve as the public representative of the organisation and will report directly to the Board of Trustees.

 

Responsibilities

1. Strategy Implementation:

  • Leading the Policy team in developing and executing strategies that align with the organisation’s overarching objectives.
  • Managing and coordinating research projects and advocacy campaigns, including budgeting, resourcing, scheduling, tracking, and ensuring quality assurance.

 

2. Fundraising and Financial Management:

  • Developing and implementing fundraising strategies.
  • Identifying funding opportunities and overseeing funding applications.
  • Monitoring and reporting on grants and funding.
  • Overseeing the organisation’s financial and operational activities.

 

3. Human Resource Management:

  • Leading and managing the team as a whole. 
  • Effectively delegating tasks to team members, including promoting team self-organisation.
  • Monitoring and evaluating staff performance.

 

4. Governance:

  • Ensuring the organisation’s compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Reporting to the Board of Trustees on the overall organisational performance, including strategies, finance, operations, and human resources.

 

Person specification

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic thinking and policy development skills.
  • Proven experience in research and advocacy project management.
  • Proven experience in fundraising and grant application processes.
  • Proficiency in financial management and reporting.
  • Experience engaging with the media and high-level government officials would be an advantage.
