Job description

Gordon Moody is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to supporting individuals severely affected by gambling harm. Established in South London in 1971, we now operate specialist residential treatment centres across the UK, providing safe and supportive environments for recovery. In addition to our residential programmes for men and women, we offer relapse prevention, aftercare, and the unique Retreat & Counselling programme, which combines short-stay residential treatment with ongoing at-home support. Our holistic approach ensures seamless care, including support for friends and family affected by gambling harm.

Role Overview:
The Business Development Manager will play a key role in identifying and securing new business opportunities to support the strategic expansion of Gordon Moody’s reach. This role is essential in ensuring the continued delivery of vital services to those affected by gambling harm. The ideal candidate will have experience in business development, strong relationship-building skills, and a deep understanding of evolving funding models, including government, corporate, and philanthropic sources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify New Business Opportunities: Research and identify potential funding sources, including government grants, charitable funding, corporate partnerships, and other innovative revenue streams aligned with Gordon Moody’s mission.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement strategies that adapt to changes in funding models, ensuring Gordon Moody remains competitive and well-positioned for future growth.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, trusts, foundations, and corporate partners. Develop a deep understanding of their priorities, expectations, and funding processes.
  • Tendering & Proposals: Lead the preparation and submission of high-quality funding proposals, tenders, and grant applications. Ensure all submissions align with Gordon Moody’s strategic objectives and effectively demonstrate our impact.
  • Market Analysis & Intelligence: Stay informed on developments within the gambling sector, funding landscapes, and public health policies to identify trends, challenges, and growth opportunities.
  • Collaboration Across Teams: Work closely with internal teams (e.g., Finance, HR, and Operations) to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to securing new business opportunities. Align fundraising efforts with the organisation’s broader goals.
  • Performance Tracking & Reporting: Monitor and report on business development progress, including secured funding, pipeline development, and impact metrics. Use data to refine strategies and improve future business development efforts.
  • Ambassadorial Role: Represent Gordon Moody at key events and conferences throughout the year, promoting our mission and fostering new opportunities.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience: Proven track record in business development, ideally within the charity, healthcare, or public sector, with a strong understanding of funding models, grants, and partnership development.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to think creatively and strategically about new revenue models and sustainable funding sources in a changing landscape.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders, from government agencies to corporate partners and foundations.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Project Management: Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyse trends and data, using insights to make informed decisions and recommendations.
  • Passion for the Mission: A genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of those affected by gambling-related harm, with a commitment to the values and mission of Gordon Moody.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the gambling sector and its challenges.
  • Experience in working with public sector funding bodies or philanthropic organizations.
  • Previous experience in a fundraising, partnership, or revenue-generation role in the charity sector.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a driven and strategic professional to contribute to the growth and sustainability of Gordon Moody, ensuring we continue to provide life-changing support for individuals and families affected by gambling harm.
