The Philanthropy Manager is a key member of the Philanthropy & Partner Engagement Department  which sits within War Child’s award-winning Fundraising team. War Child is growing, and the Philanthropy Manager will support the development of the Major Donor Function at War Child to retain and increase our income from major donors so that we can reach more children in the worst conflict affected countries.

Your Role

The Philanthropy Manager role is crucial in helping raise funds to enable our rapid growth and the expansion of our impact. Reporting to the Philanthropy Lead, you will be responsible for developing an excellent stewardship programme which grows unrestricted and restricted income and nurtures relationships with War Child’s existing major donors. You will use excellent communication skills to write compelling and tailored proposals to increase our reach.

As an integral member of the Philanthropy and Partner Engagement Department, you will bring creativity, insight and experience to the team, as well as being a key voice and representative internally and externally. You will contribute to the wider Fundraising & Communications strategy by taking a lead role in cross-team projects and activities.

Your Responsibilities 

• Systematically identify, qualify, and strategise a pipeline for up to six figure gifts for both unrestricted and restricted giving
• Lead on building an excellent stewardship programme, supporting relationship managers across the team to deliver sector leading supporter journeys
• Develop and implement strong cultivation and solicitation plans for existing donors to generate significant income from the portfolio. This will include personal meetings, attending networking events, writing proposals/reports and making presentations
• Take an active role, and lead where relevant, on the planning and delivery of a diverse portfolio of philanthropy events, including events that are hosted by Ambassadors
• Support on the development of new fundraising products which drive the stewardship programme and the retention of major donors
• Actively participate in regular department, team or working group meetings, contributing to strategy discussion and decisions that will be beneficial to the development of fundraising activities
• Record all communications with major donors on War Child’s database, Salesforce, ensuring donor information is kept up to date and properly secured at all times.
• Monitor income and expenditure targets and provide regular progress reports and updates on performance against target using War Child’s database
• Take an active role, and lead where relevant, in cross-team working groups to provide insight, advice and gain opportunities for the Philanthropy & Partnerships team
• Maintain an up to date knowledge of current activities of War Child and be an advocate of the War Child brand at all times

You Are

• Experienced in a similar fundraising role, with a specialist knowledge of major donor fundraising, ideally within an international development or humanitarian NGO
• Able to work independently to develop and implement fundraising strategies with a proven track record of securing five-figure gifts and delivering against targets
• A relationship manager with strong networking skills at senior levels internally and externally
• Experienced in stewardship strategies for major donors or the development of supporter journeys in order to retain donors
• Excellent skills in presenting information, verbally and in writing, including briefings and project reports to a range of audiences in a clear and confident manner
• Able to understand international development including War Child’s vision, mission and values and present War Child’s work with authority
• Organised and able to plan and prioritise to meet multiple deadlines

Philanthropy Manager

The Role

As Philanthropy Manager, you will be responsible for researching, establishing and developing a major gifts strategy and programme for the charity, in liaison with the Head of Fundraising. The role also encompasses building relationships with an existing portfolio of Trusts and Foundations, whilst researching and engaging new funders in order to secure sustainable income.

The Candidate

We're looking for someone with excellent communication and relationship building skills who can effectively cultivate and build relationships with prospects and donors, proving an outstanding supporter experience. You'll demonstrate your ability to develop relationships with high-net-worth individuals or high value partnerships, preferably in a charity or similar target-driven environment. You will have experience of working across an organisation to establish and/or grow a major gifts function, successfully soliciting major gifts for capital and revenue campaigns. You have proficient digital and research skills and a proven ability to analyse and evaluate data.

You will work remotely with regular attendance at DAA Head Office in Exeter. This role will involve a reasonable amount of travel around the county therefore a full driving license is essential (subject to a maximum of 3 penalty points) and access to a vehicle.

The successful applicant will work alongside our Trustees, our CEO and our existing Head of Fundraising and Communications in a jobshare to meet challenging fundraising targets. Without donations, Little Hearts Matter would not be able to offer our services, free of charge, to support individuals and families across the UK. We do not receive any government funding for our work. Our fundraising team is essential to raising these vital funds—over £440,000 annually. About Little Hearts Matter

Little Hearts Matter (LHM) is a national charity with over 7000 members. We are the only charity in the UK that offers support and information to, and represents the needs of, children and families following a diagnosis of single ventricle heart disease (half a working heart). These congenital cardiac conditions can never be cured, even following repeated surgery, so the children must learn to live within the restrictions that their disability and fears for their future create.

Little Hearts Matter is there from the time parents learn of their child’s condition, through risk-filled treatment into a challenged-filled life at home. LHM is there to support the children, and their families, through their hopes and aspirations and the gradual realisation that they will never have the same life as their peers. Our aims are to:

Alleviate isolation by offering support, friendship and understanding from the time a diagnosis is made, through treatment decisions, hospital care and into life at home, eventually introducing parents and patients to other families who have similar experiences and shared concerns helping them to build a network of support.

Reduce fear by offering patients, parents, siblings, and the extended family a greater opportunity to understand the diagnosis and treatment paths available.

Specific areas of responsibility

• Be responsible for their own portfolio of supporters, maintaining and growing income, regularly forecasting income and expenditure against agreed targets (circa. £200,000+ annually)

Lead a small team raising the resources and engaging with audiences to support the delivery of wide ranging services helping refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants to settle and thrive locally. You will deliver income and support by managing your own small team and collaborating with the rest of the organisation to tell stories, share information, build understanding and deliver the income needed to run the organisation. I am excited to be working with an amazing support charity in search of an HR Restructure Manager. This is an immediate start, part-time (3- 4 days per week), hybrid, temp role for around 3-months. This role will see you support the CEO and team leaders in providing end-to-end support in remodelling and restructuring their particular areas of the organisation.

Main duties:

Work with the CEO and team leaders in project managing the remodelling and restructuring to deliver an operational HR model to meet current and future organisational needs

Ensure all rationale for change is both legally and commercially robust to form the basis of any subsequent consultation proposal documentation.

In the last year, we have scaled up the Fundraising Operations function, as part of the Fundraising & Income Generation Support department, growing from one person to a team of four, to ensure we are providing the best possible support to our fundraising team, and the wider federation of local Minds.

Our goals are to ensure that they have the tools and training to be successful in their role, that we are maximising on all opportunities, that we are working effectively across teams and that we are ensuring all activity is compliant and follows best practice.

The Fundraising Operations team consists of:

-Fundraising Operations Manager - Communications & Cross working

-Fundraising Income - Directorate Administrator

The team is part of the wider Fundraising & Income Generation Support department, working closely with our Innovation teams and Network Support teams.

Key duties and responsibilities

Do you have experience managing internal communications, working within fundraising teams or delivering training and briefings to staff?

The post holder will:

-lead on improving communication and cross working between teams, across the directorate of 100+ people and with the wider organisation, ensuring that fundraising staff are equipped with the information, tools, networks, processes and systems to be able to carry out their roles effectively.

-champion collaboration across the directorate, the federation, with Mind Retail and with Mind Cymru, enabling teams to problem-solve together and deliver solutions that place our supporters front and centre, whilst maximising the value of our products and assets.

-help to support the fundraising teams to have a united sense of purpose and direction, a sound understanding of the tools, protocols and cross-working processes that enable them to do their job effectively, and that their needs are understood both within the directorate and wider organisation.

The post reports to the Head of Fundraising Operations and works with staff across Mind and closely with senior management roles within Fundraising. The post holder will also need to work effectively with independent local Minds and colleagues in Wales.

The post holder will also line manage the Directorate Administrator, who provides secretariat support to the Fundraising leadership team and the wider directorate.

Business Centre Co-ordinator

An exciting opportunity has been created here in Hull, to manage a brand new Enterprise, Work and Events space at the recently renovated 150 year old St Matthews former church.  Is this the job for you!?

The relaxed environment at our grade II listed, St Matthews, houses our Community Enterprise Centre designed to make us Hull’s preferred choice for shared work-space. This is a new focus for Giroscope and will require expertise, dedication and skill from all the team - but especially from the new Business Centre Co-ordinator, to secure a sustainable and prosperous future.

St Matthews is a newly refurbished, iconic local community enterprise centre celebrating opportunities in social business and enterprise, designed to encourage and build a sustainable local economy; signalling a place of welcome, community, culture and enterprise.

It is designed to offer a highly accessible, flexible, and multi-functional building to enable local people to develop employment and business skills. At its heart its mission is to stimulate the local community, hosting many commercial and community facing events, responding to local demands and needs.

We will rent out business and event spaces for existing and new start enterprises and other users, and will provide specialist enterprise support to our business tenants and users. The Role …

You will:

 

• Be familiar with delivering and achieving sales and room hire income targets
• Become the familiar face and first contact to each new work space member.
• Lead, develop and coordinate community initiatives to connect members. This includes but is not limited to; delivering member introductions, event organising, electronic and print communications.
• Guide new members through the welcome and onboarding process.
• Meet and communicate with members to resolve issues, process membership departures and other issues of complexity.
• Resolve member-related issues to ensure a happy, cohesive community.
• Manage work space member expectations in line with the St Matthews mission.
• Resolve member complaints regarding other members through unbiased investigation.
• Seek opportunities to engage members to discover and discuss members’ business, social and personal objectives.
• Proactively enquire regarding members’ business objectives and identify both St Matthews and member services that could assist in achieving their goals.
• Manage inbound post.
• Implement rules, guidelines and best practices for the community to enhance the member experience.
• Identify and communicate observed weaknesses within community management, sales, events, training, and member experience on a company-wide level.
• Work with Giroscope’s operations team to ensure that all in-house tech is operating correctly at all times.
• Ensure our facilities are compliant with all ongoing health and safety requirements.

Position Title: Senior Development Manager, Donor Network
Location: Hybrid working between London office and remote.
Reports To: Director of Strategic Development
Employment Type: Full-time, 37.5 hours a week (flexible working hours considered)

We are looking for a Senior Development Manager who is passionate about exploring new ideas and possibilities within a collaborative environment as well as ensuring our supporters feel valued. 

You will manage our Big Change Strive Network: a group of high-value donors who share our values and back our core work. To do this successfully you will be confident in building on strong existing foundations by working with those who have taken part in our Strive challenges and been a part of our ‘catalyst circle’, and you will play a crucial role in deepening and expanding the network and its visibility. There is space for a creative approach in this role because we want to take our incredible supporter network to a new level. Not only will you be leading a large part of Big Change’s fundraising efforts, but you will also be making and introducing new connections that will help to enrich and evolve the Strive network. 

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Development, this role is essential in building and maintaining relationships that drive philanthropic support and advance Big Change’s mission. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in major donor engagement, building network identities, network development, managing communities and project management. An interest in systems change is a bonus.

What you’ll be doing (Key Responsibilities):

1. Fundraising Strategy Implementation:

• Support the Director of Strategic Development to develop and refine fundraising and partnership goals and objectives.

• Execute the organisation’s fundraising strategy, working as part of the Development Team towards a shared target, with a focus on major gifts.

• Identify and pursue new funding opportunities, populating the organisation’s pipeline, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and project needs 

• Work with team members in each area of the organisation to develop a strong model for donor collaboration linked to impact.

• Monitor market insights and adapt to fundraising trends and donor behaviours.

2. Strive Network Management and Development/ Donor Community Development:

• Lead the management and growth of a mission-aligned network, engaging high-net-worth individuals, including those who participate in Strive Challenges.

• Develop and implement strategies to deepen relationships within the Strive Network, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.

• Work with our comms and marketing team to develop the donor network’s shared purpose, vision statement, brand identity and visibility.

• Oversee the careful research, qualification and stewarding of new partnerships that will help to enrich and evolve the Strive network towards inclusivity and participatory approaches.

• Co-develop value propositions with existing members of the Network to encourage others to join the group.

• Create opportunities for the Strive Network to connect with and add value to our community of changemakers on the ground (eg. mentoring, connections, follow on funding).

3. Major Donor Engagement:

• Lead on relationship management with existing major donors, designing tailored stewardship and ensuring ongoing engagement.

• Review, evaluate and further develop key touchpoints with major donors, collaborating with team members across the organisation and other funders where appropriate.

• Accountable for the identification, cultivation, and welcoming of new major donor prospects, with a focus on diversifying and expanding the Strive Network beyond its current reach.

• Oversee the production of personalised proposals, presentations and reports, sparking ongoing engagement with the network and linking their contributions to Big Change’s community and impact.

• Work closely with the Director of Strategic Development in managing high-profile donor relationships and securing multi-year commitments.

3. Team Leadership and Collaboration:

• Provide training and professional development opportunities for team members.

• Work closely with other teams at Big Change to ensure alignment between fundraising activities and organisational needs.

• Develop, inspire, motivate others to fulfil their potential and foster collaboration across Big Change and its community

4. Data Management and Reporting:

• Working closely with the senior leadership team, track and report fundraising progress, ensuring transparency and accountability in all pipeline development activities.

• Oversee the management of donor databases, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of all fundraising activities.

• Track and analyse engagement metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and campaigns.

• Responsible for compliance with all relevant regulations and ethical standards in fundraising activities.

Here’s what we’re looking for:​ 

Experience:

• Highly experienced in fundraising, major gifts, network development, or related roles.

• Proven experience of building a community with shared identity, values and purpose.

• Facilitation of co-design processes, or related experience of such approaches.

• Strong experience of designing engaging events, experiences and creative communications.

• Communications and branding experience helpful but not essential.

• Experience with working across UK and US markets isn’t necessary but would be desirable

Working hours: 35 hours per week to be worked Monday to Friday

Location: Cathedral Centre, 3 Ford Street, Salford, M3 6DP Salary: £36,338 - £40,289 per annum depending on skills and experience.

What we are looking for: We are looking for a person to make the role their own. The successful applicant will have excellent written skills with the ability to produce concise and creative bids. They will also have proficient IT skills, specifically Microsoft Office software and excellent communication and presentation skills required to build relationships with potential funders. They will have demonstrative ability to plan and prioritise their own workload with minimum supervision and be able to plan ahead and work within agreed timeframes.

What you will need: The successful candidate will need to have at least two years’ experience in an income generation environment as well as a proven record of successful applications for funding from Trusts and Grants. They will have a demonstrative ability to research and develop relationships with partners, Trusts, and other Grant-making bodies.
