Lived Experience Organiser - the Neighbour Movement

London (Hybrid)
£32412 - £36427 per annum
Contract (6 Months )
Job description

?Are you passionate about using people power to change the world? Do you believe in standing up for human rights alongside refugees and helping them to rebuild their lives in the UK?

?We have an exciting opportunity for an Organiser to join Freedom from Torture in delivering our first ever big organising program, developing collective action to build a UK that is accessible and welcoming to people seeking sanctuary.

About the Role

?These roles will focus on recruiting, training and managing volunteer teams to organise distributed actions that feed into a national campaign strategy. You will be developing volunteer teams and building their infrastructure online and remotely.

You will be based in the award-winning Digital & Campaigns Team at Freedom from Torture and working alongside partners at Asylum Reform Initiative & #TogetherWithRefugees.

This role is ideally London based but can also be remote, however you will regularly be expected to attend in person events in London and major UK cities, so good connections and a willingness to travel for work are required.

Due to the nature of working with volunteers, some evening and weekend work will be required with time off in lieu granted.

These roles have been funded through a grant which currently runs until 31.12.24. However, further funding is being sought to extend the project a further year, which would enable an extension of contract.

About You

We would love to hear from you if:

  • You have a deep passion for the refugee rights movement.
  • Relevant lived experience of being a torture survivor and seeking asylum in the UK or another country or experience being forcibly displaced from your country of birth or long-term residence
  • Excellent communication skills, a people person, a person who is energised by connecting with people and has the ability to engage positively across differences in background and political opinion
  • Experience working collaboratively with volunteers or grassroots groups members to organise, campaign or push for change
  • Experience delivering information sessions, training sessions, or undertaking other public speaking engagements
