Millfield is now seeking to appoint an exceptional Director of Development to take the lead in delivering its future fundraising and stakeholder relations strategies. Both will align with the vision, goals and values of the school and the Millfield Foundation (a separate but linked charity) and build upon the structures and relationships already in place.

Reporting to the Headmaster and as a member of the Executive Group, the Director will be responsible for further developing relations with a broad network of alumni, friends and supporters (nationally and internationally) and delivering a £multi-million fundraising campaign for transformational bursaries in recognition of the school’s 100th anniversary in 2035.

We are looking for maternity cover for eight months for the role of Senior Alumni Relations Officer, responsible for building and strengthening relationships between Pembroke and its alumni and other supporters. The main duties to be carried out by the post-holder include:

Alumni Relations

• Educate current students about alumni benefits and develop opportunities for students to interact with alumni and supporters so that students become engaged alumni as well as future donors.
• Provide ad hoc tours of College for groups of visiting alumni.
• Ensure that Alumni Relations supports opportunities for the identification and cultivation of alumni prospects.

Events

• Organise events from initial ideas to final feedback, with a variety of goals and objectives including alumni engagement, stewardship and fundraising.
• Work with colleagues, alumni and Fellows to identify new events to appeal to underserved segments of the alumni, parent, student, and other communities.
• Attend events and ensure they are run smoothly and professionally.
• Coordinate High Table dinner bookings for alumni.

Internal collaboration

• Work collaboratively with the wider team and colleagues across Pembroke, supporting work outside your functional area where necessary.
• Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Development Director, which may include travel and event attendance outside standard working hours, for which time off in lieu will be given.

We support children and young people (up to the age of 25) When someone important to them has died or is not expected to live, and parents and the wider family when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying.

Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for a talented and enthusiastic Philanthropy Officer to join a high performing and friendly fundraising team.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and organized Philanthropy Officer who will support the Head of Corporate, Philanthropy & Events to secure and increase income through the charity’s Major Donor strategy.

The post holder will support with developing a robust pipeline of prospects and will be responsible for managing a portfolio of new and existing major donor relationships. You will be creative and analytical and provide first class research, administration, relationship management and database skills and provide excellent donor stewardship.

Principal responsibilities include:

• Research and identify potential major donors to build a strong list of prospects, matching against key fundraising priorities, to maximise opportunities and build a healthy prospect pipeline.
• Work with Head of Corporate, Philanthropy & Events to prepare and implement creative donor cultivation and stewardship plans to secure new donors and develop current relationships, including:
  • Creative cases for support with associated budgets.
  • Adapting information for specific donors using different approaches for different audiences.
  • Developing engaging thank you letters and reports. 
• Manage an agreed portfolio of major donor relationships and prospects, with the support of Head of Corporate, Philanthropy & Events, through excellent stewardship and tailored fundraising proposals.
• Take a lead role in development and implementation of a patron and celebrity stewardship plan.
• Provide timely and high-quality updates to donors on the charity’s activities and impact and value of gifts. Work with the Communications team to ensure that major donor supporters receive engaging and relevant marketing materials.

About Us

Founded in 2007, KHULA Education is an award-winning South African NGO working in partnership with rural schools and underserved communities in deep rural South Africa to ensure children and youth can access a quality education and economic opportunity.

About the Role

We are seeking to recruit a creative and ambitious Fundraising and Communications Officer.

As our reach and impact has increased significantly in recent years, so has our income, and this new role has been created in response to that demand.  This is an exciting opportunity for a fundraiser who wants to widen, or consolidate, their knowledge and experience of fundraising, in an international context, as well as gain communications experience.

We are a very small team so the role will cover a breadth of funding streams, with a particular focus on Trusts and Foundations, High Value Donors, and Events, both special and community.  It is therefore important that you have excellent writing and interpersonal skills, and solid experience of crafting successful funding applications.  You will also need excellent planning and organisational skills.

 Key Responsibilities

• Steward, retain and grow the support of our existing donor portfolio: KHULA has an existing portfolio of donors including trusts, foundations, corporates, major donors, individual and regular givers, the majority of whom are based in the UK or South Africa. Alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, the post holder will be responsible for managing these relationships, including bespoke reporting for trusts and major donors and taking responsibility for their own portfolio of donors.
• Donor prospecting and new business: researching and generating new donor leads as well as acting on opportunities provided by our Board and others, converting prospects into supporters of our programmes.
• ​​External communications: working alongside the Director of Fundraising and Communications, assisting in the creation of our quarterly e-newsletter and the Annual Report, managing our social media channels, in addition to other ad hoc external communications.

As a Social Media Officer, you will manage our social media channels, ensuring they're filled with inspiring and engaging content that connects with our wide range of audiences. You'll have the opportunity to grow our online presence and strengthen the community of supporters advocating for those affected by MND.

You will develop and publish accessible digital content that reflects our brand. You'll be 'the voice of the Association' on social media, protecting our reputation and ensuring our channels remain professional, positive, and compliant with GDPR and copyright laws.

You will collaborate with teams across the organisation to ensure coordinated and effective social media activities, whether providing full support or offering guidance. The role will also include providing support and training to staff and volunteers in their use of social media. Additionally, you will play a key role in implementing our social media strategy.

Regular monitoring of social channels, responding to engagements, and fostering positive relationships are all part of the role. You will also produce reports to measure campaign success and provide valuable insights for future planning.

Occasionally, you will be asked to provide out-of-hours social media support as part of a rota.

Hybrid Working Expectations: 1 day per week office attendance

(Flexibility to attend the office more regularly on occasion may be required to meet business needs.)

What are we looking for?

Significant experience managing social media platforms in a professional setting, both through organic and paid techniques. Excellent written communication skills to create engaging content that speaks to diverse audiences while maintaining our brand's tone of voice.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, balancing deadlines and priorities with ease. You will also need to work well with others, building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

You'll support graphic design and video editing. Knowledge of digital accessibility and an awareness of social media trends is essential. You should be comfortable using data to influence future planning and have a broad understanding of safeguarding in digital spaces.

We are looking for an experienced and inspired fundraiser to manage our individual giving supporter recruitment programme. As IG Supporter Recruitment Manager you will manage the programme, leading the development and implementation of the strategy to maximise the value of our donor recruitment activity.   

Key Skills and Attributes: 

This role requires a confident fundraiser with a solid grasp of all supporter recruitment channels and an understanding of retention and development channels. 

You’ll need a track record of successful recruitment fundraising from individuals, with experience in donor recruitment or in direct marketing acquisition within the commercial sector.

Experience of driving effective direct marketing activity is essential, as is knowledge of fundraising compliance and best practise in line with evolving regulations.

The programme covers a diverse range of activities and techniques to recruit regular givers, cash donors and product donors, with a strong focus on digital platforms. This includes recruitment activity such as Meta paid social, Performance Max, paid search, and converting supporters to donors through post action asks and emails, as well as a testing programme for new activity. Additionally, this post would be responsible for optimising welcome journeys to improve retention, Value Exchange products, inserts, Out of Home and Connected TV.

Our supporter experience programme includes cash appeals, upgrade, reactivation, a biannual supporter magazine, cash to regular giving conversion activity, e-appeals and retention activity. 

The Individual Giving programme has evolved hugely over the past few years, with a big increase in our digital activity and collaboration with campaign teams to create compelling and integrated plans.

Each Individual Giving Officer manages a selection of projects across recruitment or experience, rotating project management to support development and learning across the team.

The role is in the supportive and friendly Individual Giving (IG) team, which sits within the Income Generation directorate.

The IG team consists of eight roles:
