Job description

The College of Policing is pleased to once again be partnering with Robertson Bell, this time in our search to find a Deputy Head of Finance to join our high-performing team in this newly revamped role. The College of Policing is the professional body for the police service in England and Wales who work to share knowledge and good practice, set standards, and support professional development for police officers and staff.

Reporting into our Head of Finance & Procurement, this strategically focused role will support in the management of our financial operations. This role involves significant responsibility for financial planning, budget management, financial reporting, and strategic financial advice. The position is critical in ensuring the College meets its financial goals and adheres to all relevant regulations and standards.

The key duties of the Deputy Head of Finance are as follows::

  • Deputise for Head of Finance & Procurement, including leading on key cross College initiatives and attending Senior Leadership, Executive and Board meetings.
  • Oversee the preparation and management of the College's budget, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Engage and consult with colleagues across the organisation to deliver short and medium-term financial planning and contribute towards prioritisation decisions, risk identification & mitigation and contingency planning.
  • Oversee preparation of financial statements, annual reports, and other documentation as required.
  • Influence the reporting of monthly, quarterly and annual financial analysis to the College’s Executive Team and Board.
  • Provide strategic financial advice to senior management, helping to shape the financial strategy of the College.
  • Analyse financial data to inform decision-making and policy development.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors, addressing any issues or recommendations.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Qualified as a Professional Accountant (CCAB or equivalent).
  • Experience of strategic planning, performance and risk management
  • Ability to develop financial proposals and business cases and deliver value for money
  • Ideally, prior experience working in a public sector or government finance role.
  • Ability to analyse, summarise and communicate financial data to non-financial budget managers.
  • Skills to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Please note that the salary on offer will be based on location as follows:

  • National: £50,490 - £61,711
  • London: £61,068 - £72,289
