Our influencing work is changing the UK conversation about domestic abuse, with both national and locally based elected representatives and the officials and colleagues who work alongside them.

Our Public Affairs and Policy Officer, reporting to the Head of Public Affairs and Policy, will be crucial in helping us to develop our engagement, as well as deepen our policy influencing capacity to support our roll-out of ground-breaking interventions to end domestic abuse and ensure support for the whole family to keep people safe sooner.

You will be joining the organisation at a pivotal moment. The recent General Election provides an unmissable opportunity to ensure that SafeLives’ priorities for improving the response to domestic abuse are taken forward by the new Government.

The Finance Team at Alzheimer’s Research UK is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the Charity and providing timely and accurate financial information. The team is responsible for ensuring there is a strong financial control environment, and for providing support and advice on all finance matters to employees across the charity.

You will be required to be in the office at least two days per week and will have a high level of financial acumen and understanding. As the Finance Manager - Transactional Accounting, you will be involved in all aspects of managing a busy finance function, including managing the day-to-day operational finances of the organisation, and managing the transactional team.  Working alongside the Finance Manager - Compliance, Controls & Reporting and the transactional finance team, you will ensure a seamless finance function, ensuring that financial information is timely and accurate, and that all control accounts are reconciled and up to date. 

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:

· Support the development and implementation of best financial practices.

· Manage the charity’s financial accounting systems, including transactional processing, user set up and maintenance, permissions, and approval paths.

· Ensure month end accounts and reconciliations are complete, accurate and on time.

· Process Gift Aid claims and liaise with HMRC as necessary.

· Process all financial transactions on behalf of Alzheimer’s Brain Bank, a small joint venture company in which we hold a 50% share.

· Check payroll calculations and post month end payroll transactions.

· Work with members of the Finance team to ensure that Finance procedures are understood across the charity and are consistently adhered to.

· Manage the interface between the finance system and the donations database (Salesforce) to ensure timely recognition of all income to the charity.

· Together with the Finance Manager - Compliance, Controls & Reporting, lead the annal audit process.

· Manage and supervise the Finance team, including but not limited to carrying out annual performance appraisals and overseeing the development of the team.

· Provide advice and guidance to the Finance team, overseeing income and expenditure management, sales and purchase ledgers, employee expenses and longer-term projects.

· Review new income streams and put in place appropriate processes to ensure strong financial control and reconciliation of income.

· Provide cover for the Finance Manager - Compliance, Controls & Reporting as required.

· Undertake any other relevant duties and projects delegated by the Head of Finance, in line with the responsibilities of the post.

 

What we are looking for:

· ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification, or qualified by experience.

· Experience in a previous finance role.

· Experience of managing a team.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including an advanced knowledge of Excel, with an understanding of functions such as Pivot Tables and Formulas.

· Experience in using a finance system to extract information or reports and to post journals.

· Experience in identifying and resolving errors in financial information.

· Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and numeracy skills.

· Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage workload effectively and work proactively.

· Ability to communicate effectively to colleagues at all levels across the Charity.

· Passionate, proactive, and friendly attitude.

· Methodical and adaptable approach.

· Ability to interrogate and reconcile financial data.

· Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills, particularly in relation to reconciliation of figures.

Additional Information:

Ways of working: As part of our Agile ways of working you will be required to work approximately 2 days a week from the office, which is subject to the requirements of the role and the business needs. Flexibility on where you work can be split between working from home and our office.

Job Overview 

Finance Team 

The Interim Financial Controller sits within a Finance Team, which provides the full range of financial support, reporting and services across Conciliation Resources to support the efficient and effective running of the organisation and the delivery of its work. 

Other senior finance team roles include an Income & Treasury Accountant, as well as a Senior Finance Business Partner 

Job Purpose 

The Financial Controller has responsibility for the maintenance of business processes and controls, expenditure and balance sheet transactions. He/she also works with the rest of the Finance Team and other teams to ensure smooth and timely project and statutory audits. The Interim Financial Controller will provide cover for this role while the postholder is on maternity leave. 

Scope and Accountability

The Organisational Support team provides support to all parts of Conciliation Resources in the areas of financial management, personnel (HR) management, fundraising, information and communications technology, facilities and organisational communications. 

The post-holder works closely with others in the Finance Team and other staff across Conciliation Resources as well as our organisational partners. This is a key role in both delivering and developing our financial controls framework, processes and procedures and being able to respond to and resolve problems. The Interim Financial Controller will also have line management responsibilities.

Person Specification

Essential 

• Experience in managing projects funded by the European Union, FCDO and other donors, including donor relationship management, programme development and narrative and budget reporting. 

• Qualified Accountant (CCAB) with substantial experience of working in an accounting function 

• In-depth knowledge and understanding of internal controls and finance & accounting processes 

• Proven experience of managing month end and year end processes including audits 

• Substantial experience of balance sheet reconciliations and preparation of supporting schedules for audits 

• Experience of managing a purchase ledger and payments function within a busy finance function 

• Good working knowledge of tax and VAT in the Charity context 

• Meticulous and good attention to detail

We are looking for an Assistant Shop Manager to work alongside the Shop Manager in our Ashby shop. Are you self motivated with strong interpersonal skills and thrive on challenges and opportunities that come with assisting in the running of a shop? Can you assist the Shop Manager in driving sales and profits and able to work closely with staff and Volunteers to ensure we deliver the best level of customer service.

We are looking for someone who loves working with people and has the ability to lead in the absence of the Shop Manager, inspire and empower people around them. We are looking for someone who is friendly and positive in their approach and can instil an energy to those around them. Have you got a creative ability that you can bring to the role?

You will make a real difference to young people in England by helping to raise vital funds needed to support our frontline work.

It is important that you have good communication skills both inside and outside the shop, reaching out to the local community to help build support for the shop.

We are looking for a Regional Appeal Manager to join an inspiring social welfare charity to coordinate local supporters, partners, and volunteers, building relationships to maximise fundraising potential.

Covering the South East your main role is to achieve income, expenditure, and contribution targets, ensuring the success of the appeal. Relationship management plays a crucial role, where youll oversee a portfolio of regional corporate partnerships.

A distinctive aspect of this role lies in the unique Poppy Appeal activity. You will be responsible for recruiting and inducting new Poppy Appeal Organisers, ensuring they have the tools and resources for success.

The Role

A fantastic opportunity to join a Youth Charity Foundation as their new Relationships Manager, based in either London, Birmingham or Leeds. As Relationships Manager you will accompany local partnerships through the development and testing of potential local systemic solutions, acting as the key point of contact for the programme.

As Relationships Manager will lead the relationship with 3 partnerships, enabling the local partners and the charity to make the most of their work together, through relationship management, accompaniment, insight and oversight and grant management.

As well as support and future investment from the programme, this may include helping partnerships identify alternative sources of funding, develop business cases for future support or capture their learning to influence decision-makers. You will have the strategic vision and analytical thinking to assess future potential as well as current progress and spot these emerging opportunities.

Term: Fixed term until January 2026 with the possibility of extension - Full Time –37.5 hours per week.  They offer flexible working and consider alternative patterns of work

Salary: £35,775 - £41,775

Reporting to: Head of Programmes

Location: This role can be based in either London, Birmingham or Leeds. They operate a hybrid model of two-days per week in the office and three-days from home. You must also be prepared to travel to other locations as required for the purpose of this role, which may occasionally require overnight stays.
