Event Assistant (Merchandise) - South West

Reports to: Events supporter experience project manager

Hours: Shift times will vary depending on the size and type of event you are covering. Events take place between May and October with shifts between 5-13 hours.

What will I be doing?

Generating vital funds for Cancer Research UK through the sale of event merchandise amongst participants and their supporters.

Using your creativity to display event merchandise at your own pop-up shop, finding ways to maximise sales.

Contributing to the energy and feel of the event by engaging with participants and supporters

Providing excellent customer and supporter service.

Managing the merchandising activity across a number of events including the collection and return of all kit, stock and transport.

What will I be doing?
Managing and delivering projects to develop and maintain an ambitious mass audience strategy that drives sustainable contribution growth over the long-term
Leading the development of the audience strategy, working alongside colleagues to deliver strategic projects and programmes of work from initial scoping through to making recommendations
Identifying key strategic questions and decisions and drive clarity on project scope
Supporting the Head of Audience & Strategy to establish standardised ways of developing, implementing and assessing strategy in MFE
Performing analysis to explore strategic questions, including qualitative and quantitative research and commissioning primary research where required. Synthesising conclusions into clear and actionable business recommendations
Working with the Planning & Change team in MFE to support the development of implementation plans for the audience strategy, including setting annual priorities/ targets and managing prioritisation decisions
Working with the Planning & Change team in MFE to support MFE quarterly business performance reviews to drive alignment with the audience strategy and ensure prioritisation and investment decisions deliver on overall strategic goals
Working closely with the Data, Insight and Performance department to ensure audience, market and business insights are front-and-centre of commercial decision-making and prioritisation/ planning
Contributing to writing impactful papers and presentations for a variety of stakeholder groups, including MFE SLT
Delivering ad hoc strategic projects in priority areas, including supporting the Head of Audience & Strategy to respond to EB/ Strategy Board requests
Line managing one strategy manager and (as required) supervise other team members and/or people from other teams to deliver work.
What skills will I need?
Previous experience of developing strategy at pace
Strong commercial acumen, including experience conducting data analysis and making prioritisation and/ or investment recommendations
Experience of managing relationships and interacting confidently with senior stakeholder (ideally C-suite or Director-level)
Numerate, financially literate and comfortable with data analysis
Previous experience of and interest in one or more relevant areas - e.g. fundraising/not for profits, customer experience, consumer insight, strategic planning - gained through a previous role and/or consulting or equivalent experience

What will I be doing?
Face-to-face delivery of the latest cancer prevention and early detection information in an appropriate and relevant way
Delivering face to face cancer awareness activities for people at their place of work with our Cancer Awareness in the Workplace team - typically health information stands and occasionally short presentations
Providing cover on the Cancer Awareness Roadshow, working alongside a small team to engage the public in indoor and outdoor community settings through individual face-to-face conversations
Supporting other cancer awareness activities and Cancer Research UK events
Representing Cancer Research UK in a positive and professional way and ensure that all information shared is in line with CRUK's core messages
Responsible for collecting and inputting data for evaluation purposes and contributing to other general feedback
Ensuring familiarity with local stats and local health information sheets to tailor activity and enable effective signposting to local services.
What skills are you looking for?
Registered Adult Nurse - NMC registration is mandatory for this role and must always be maintained
An interest in or experience of at least one of the following: health promotion, practice nursing, occupational health, health visiting, district/community nursing or other relevant qualification/experience

Further to this, you'll take a leading role in analysing, synthesising, and communicating information about healthcare in the devolved nations. What will I be doing?
Supporting the two Senior Insight Managers for Devolved Nations, managing projects that support delivery of HSE's and the wider directorate's strategic objectives
Identifying, distilling, synthesising and sharing key insights gained from devolved nations health systems on key cancer topics, such as rollout and optimization of screening programmes, and how health organizations work together to diagnose and treat cancer.
Building effective relationships with expert teams across the Policy, Information and Communications directorate as well as senior management within the Evidence and Implementation department
Producing effective internal communications to disseminate work
Contributing to the management of the overall health systems engagement programme, including acting as lead for designated workstreams as required
Working with colleagues across different teams to develop, manage and deliver external-facing projects
Leading and supporting project teams of CRUK staff and external stakeholders and partners to develop and deliver the above projects.

Cancer Research UK's understanding of cancer is advancing more rapidly than ever before, leading to increased survival rates thanks to our efforts. The comprises 17 adult centres and 12 paediatric locations across the UK, jointly funded by Cancer Research UK and our ECMC Partners. Our collaborative mission is to conduct early phase trials and translational research, leveraging our centres' unique, world-leading expertise in early phase clinical research to develop innovative cancer treatments. This role will be part of Cancer Research UK's Programme Office responsible for coordinating and supporting the ECMC Network.
As a Paediatric Research Manager, you will play an essential role in facilitating and delivering the ECMC strategy, bringing together clinicians and translational scientists to deliver early phase clinical trials for children and young people with cancer. Your purpose will be to project manage activities across the network's paediatric initiatives, ensuring robust governance and fostering collaboration to achieve our objectives of improving and expanding life-saving treatment options for paediatric patients. This will involve building relationships and partnering with our paediatric oncology leads and various external stakeholders (e.g., the paediatric oncology community, ECMC funders, industry partners, and other relevant organisations). You will also represent the ECMC at national and international conferences to promote the UK, and particularly the ECMC network, as a premier location for paediatric early phase trials.
This is an impactful opportunity for an individual interested in early phase trials and paediatric oncology to shape a role that combines project management, strategy implementation, and partnering with senior stakeholders and industry experts.

What will I be doing?
Project Management:
Providing project management support to paediatric activities across the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres (ECMC) network.
Supporting the delivery of paediatric projects, such as the ECMC Children and Young People's Data Platform used by clinicians and researchers.
Monitoring project milestones, risks, and dependencies, ensuring alignment with ECMC's strategic objectives.
Maintaining a robust governance framework to support the effective oversight and delivery of the paediatric network's strategy.
This will involve regularly attending, organising, and delivering Paediatric Leadership Forum meetings and the Paediatric Strategy Group (including secretariat duties, agenda creation and taking minutes).
Supporting wider ECMC network and Programme Office activities to enable pan-age approaches across all our research (including paediatric, teenagers, young adults, and adult patients).
Stakeholder Management:
Building strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels (including senior leadership) within the ECMC paediatric network to enable delivery and monitoring of network objectives.
This will involve partnering with clinicians, researchers, academics, research funders, industry partners, and international organisations.
Organising ECMC site visits to foster closer links to paediatric ECMC locations.
Identifying and understanding stakeholder priorities and supporting the Paediatric Impact & Engagement Manager to develop appropriate impact communications.
Providing stewardship for patient and public involvement representatives within the ECMC projects (e.g., Children and Young People's Data Platform Project).
Business Development and Industry Engagement:
Representing ECMC at international conferences, showcasing the network's capabilities and fostering partnerships.
This will involve travelling c.1-2 times per year.
Engaging with other national and international infrastructure to promote collaborative working on commercial opportunities within paediatric oncology.
Supporting the Industry Engagement to collaborate with partners and create early phase clinical trial opportunities for the ECMC paediatric network.
What skills will I need?
Project or Research Manager with experience managing projects with overlapping priorities within clinical research or academic environments (e.g., universities, consulting, etc).

As a Paediatric Research Manager, you will play an essential role in facilitating and delivering the ECMC strategy, bringing together clinicians and translational scientists to deliver early phase clinical trials for children and young people with cancer. Your purpose will be to project manage activities across the network's paediatric initiatives, ensuring robust governance and fostering collaboration to achieve our objectives of improving and expanding life-saving treatment options for paediatric patients. This will involve building relationships and partnering with our paediatric oncology leads and various external stakeholders (e.g., the paediatric oncology community, ECMC funders, industry partners, and other relevant organisations). What will I be doing?
Project Management:
Providing project management support to paediatric activities across the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres (ECMC) network.
Supporting the delivery of paediatric projects, such as the ECMC Children and Young People's Data Platform used by clinicians and researchers.
Monitoring project milestones, risks, and dependencies, ensuring alignment with ECMC's strategic objectives.
Maintaining a robust governance framework to support the effective oversight and delivery of the paediatric network's strategy.
This will involve regularly attending, organising, and delivering Paediatric Leadership Forum meetings and the Paediatric Strategy Group (including secretariat duties, agenda creation and taking minutes).
Supporting wider ECMC network and Programme Office activities to enable pan-age approaches across all our research (including paediatric, teenagers, young adults, and adult patients).
Stakeholder Management:
Building strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels (including senior leadership) within the ECMC paediatric network to enable delivery and monitoring of network objectives.
This will involve partnering with clinicians, researchers, academics, research funders, industry partners, and international organisations.
Organising ECMC site visits to foster closer links to paediatric ECMC locations.
Identifying and understanding stakeholder priorities and supporting the Paediatric Impact & Engagement Manager to develop appropriate impact communications.
Providing stewardship for patient and public involvement representatives within the ECMC projects (e.g., Children and Young People's Data Platform Project).
Business Development and Industry Engagement:

What will I be doing?
Programme Management:
Overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day management of the International Cancer Benchmarking Partnership (ICBP) programme, ensuring key milestones are met and progress is communicated across the partnership.
Developing strong relationships with key international and UK stakeholders ensuring a coordinated approach to engagement by the Programme Management Team.
Ensuring appropriate legal agreements and funding are in place with ICBP partner jurisdictions and commissioned researchers; and onboarding any new jurisdictions.
Ensuring appropriate governance structures are in place to support the successful delivery of the programme (including clinical committees, local leads groups etc).
Collaborating with the Senior Research Manager to ensure the successful delivery of all commissioned research projects.
