About the opportunity
The Associate Director of Risk Assurance will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective oversight, management, and mitigation of organisational risk. This role will work closely with our Executive and Senior Leadership teams and the Board of Trustees to lead and elevate the prominence, understanding and organisation capability in relation to risk management, assurance of our internal control environment and compliance of legal regulations to which we are subject to adhere.
This is a homeworking role, but you will be required to travel to attend meetings, events and team-days, so you must reside in the UK, have the correct right to work documents to work in the UK and be comfortable/willing to travel to our offices if/when required.

What will you be doing?

Chair of Diocesan and Cathedral Safeguarding Advisory Group

The Chair of the Diocesan and Cathedral Safeguarding Advisory Panel (DCSAP) is an extremely important and highly influential role at the Diocese, as you will independently guide, advise and challenge the Diocese and Canterbury Cathedral to ensure that their safeguarding policies, procedures and practices adhere to national and statutory safeguarding requirements.
Acting with impartiality and independence, you will provide effective leadership to the panel by encouraging independent thought and supporting and challenging where necessary, to ensure effective safeguarding responsibilities for children and vulnerable adults are maintained within the Cathedral and throughout the Diocese.
Regularly reviewing the progress of the DCSAP’s annual work programme, you will also contribute to the diocesan and cathedral safeguarding strategy and its annual progress review.
Taking responsibility for scrutinising the Church's responses to safeguarding concerns, you will advise on the diocesan/cathedral response to case lessons learned reviews, proposing adjustments to policies and practices where necessary.
Perhaps with a background in social services, a local authority, the police or in safeguarding children, you should have a strong understanding of the statutory requirements relating to safeguarding, including the Children Act, Care Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and relevant criminal justice frameworks.
A natural leader with experience of chairing governance or multi-agency panels, you should have the ability to lead structured discussions and reach consensus, being able to act impartially and independently and offer objective advice and challenge. To ensure impartiality, you must not hold any other role within the diocese.
With outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, you should be capable of presenting safeguarding issues clearly to senior leaders and stakeholders, whilst having the ability to influence safeguarding strategy and policy, implementing improvements based on case reviews and best practices.
Previous experience in a faith-based or voluntary setting with safeguarding responsibilities or experience working with statutory safeguarding partners (perhaps local authorities or the police) would be desirable.

The Director of Income Generation & Communications is a new role, created to capitalise on a revised strategic direction for the charity following a period of evaluation and review and as the charity celebrates its centenary. AfID is recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist in international NGO grant audit services for development donors such as the UN and the World Bank. Assignments would suit experienced qualified audit professionals with grant audit / management experience, ideally in a not-for-profit/ international development context
Role overview.
Complete international grant expenditure audits for a diverse range of projects (grant recipients) funded by international donor institutions ranging from emergency aid, to long term development in areas such as agriculture, health or infrastructure or technical research. Assignments are 1-3 weeks in length and based across the European mainland and the developing world. These are offered on an assignment by assignment basis, one to two months in advance.
Contractors can be based outside the UK
Requirements
- Qualified ACA / ACCA or equivalent – 5+ years post qualified experience
- Grant management and audit and reporting experience with international institutions. Preference given to individuals that have worked on UN or EC grant assurance assignments
- Diplomacy and cultural sensitivity while working with a hugely diverse range of clients and beneficiaries
- A real interest in international development and associated funding structures
- Ideally but not essential fluency in a second language such as Spanish, German, French, Arabic & Portugese
- Excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills in English.

- At least 5-10+ years of relevant audit experience
- Ability to work under pressure; Strong planning, organisational and time management skills
- Sound technical and analytical skills, report writing and presentation skills

Overview of the role
Working with the Board of Trustees, members of the clergy and parishes, the CEO will be responsible for shaping and delivering the strategic vision of the charity in its mission to support adults and children in need.
Your role will involve responsibility for:
Leadership – to be visionary in the charity’s strategic development in line with the values and ethos of the charity
Governance – to take overall responsibility for the legal, risk, statutory and regulatory requirements of the charity
Strategy – to work with the Trustees, develop and deliver the strategic plan with responsibility for the continued development of Caritas across the Diocese of Leeds
Financial and Human Resource Management
Operational Efficiency including the lead role for the regulated services with Ofsted and CQC.

Meet your Manager
In this role you will be line managed by our CEO, Laura Clarke. Laura joined ClientEarth in September 2022, after two decades in public policy, and in diplomatic roles across Africa, Asia and Europe. Prior to joining ClientEarth Laura was British High Commissioner to New Zealand, and Governor of the Pitcairn Islands, from 2018 – 2022.
Main Duties
- Collaborate with the CEO, Associate Director of Development, and income heads to oversee the implementation the implement the Global Fundraising Strategy
- Collaborate with the Associate Director and Heads of Development to implement donor cultivation and retention plans
- With the CEO, the postholder will develop appropriate annual income targets in line with our Global Fundraising Strategy and in consultation with the Associate Director and all heads of income
Role requirements
- Extensive and proven senior experience in fundraising for a charity, NGO, or private/public entity
- Proven experience managing international teams of 10+ staff members across multiple borders

Our partner, seeks an empathetic finance leader to lead the finance function, to offer strategic advisory support to the senior leadership during a period of change and support to the finance team to navigate the transition. This includes reviewing their processes and systems, and recommending improvements in these in light of the changes, advise on what the finance team looks like and how it is staffed.
Responsibilities
- Lead the global finance function. This includes leading on developing and overseeing a strong compliance framework; risk management; budgeting and forecasting; and reporting.
- Work with the senior leadership team, advising them on the financial implications of the change process, resourcing requirements and structure of the finance team, and overseeing organisational progress towards the financial strategies.
- Develop a globally integrated finance team, coaching them and supporting them through the change process.
Requirements
- Qualified accountant, senior finance leader with experience leading and supporting senior leadership through change within an international charity, with multiple entities and a global finance function, and empathetically managing change amongst the team.
- Excellent leadership skills, with demonstrable experience of coaching and developing a team, and able to communicate effectively.
