As Service Manager, you will be responsible for collaboratively leading the team to ensure a high level of performance by meeting targets and KPIs set, whilst creating a supportive and inclusive environment for our staff team. Safeguarding those we provide our services to, sharing your concerns and putting the right interventions in place is key to the success of this role.  You will work with a dedicated team of people, building strong relationships with other agencies to deliver the comprehensive support needed by those using our services. You will lead your team, providing development and clear direction aligned with the organisational aims and be a strong advocate for WithYou externally, maintaining and building our profile as you go.

This is a permanent, full-time role working 37.5 hours per week.

Summary of the role

Following the successful conclusion of the Making the Exceptional Happen campaign (which raised over £71m) attention is turning to a future campaign in support of the University’s 2030 strategy which has three core themes: sustainability (greener); improving human health and wellbeing (healthier); and creating a fair and inclusive society (fairer).

Aligned to the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS), you will plan, develop and produce fundraising proposals to trusts and foundations of a consistently high quality. These bids will be tailored to the needs of a wide range of funders based both in the UK and internationally. You will influence the trust and foundation fundraising strategy and take an active role annual planning. You will have direct responsibility for securing significant new funds to support the university’s strategic objectives. You will work closely with academics and senior university leaders to create funding proposals. You will be expected to build personal relationships with key trust and foundation contacts (trustees/administrators) and to find ways to open doors to new trusts and foundations by exploring the networks of academics and supporters. The work will focus particularly on major proposals for grants of £100k or more.

With a significant track record of securing major gifts from Trusts and Foundations through your own endeavours and delivering against financial targets, you will have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to liaise confidentially and diplomatically both externally and internally at all levels and to a range of audiences.

About the role

The position 

In this role, you will coordinate The Society’s communications activities to ensure a coherent and impactful narrative, manage the Communications Grid, and act as a brand champion. Your responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining networks with partner organisations and third-party suppliers, managing the communications and membership budget, and leading the establishment of key performance indicators for communications and engagement activities. You will also develop targeted narratives, oversee the production of various communications content, and monitor trends to propose innovative projects.

The Communications and Membership Manager has line management responsibility for a Senior Communications Officer, Membership and Grants Officer, and a Communities and Contents Officer.

Who are we looking for? 

The ideal candidate will have a Life-Science degree or relevant experience in Life Sciences. They should have a strong track record of developing and delivering multi-channel communications for diverse audiences, including translating complex research for lay audiences. High digital literacy is essential, encompassing digital design tools, content creation, website management, email platforms, and social media management. Experience in project management, creating accurate visual and written content for various platforms, and excellent organisational skills with a proactive problem-solving approach are required. The candidate should also have experience maintaining professional relationships, working collaboratively within a team, and line management.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders across both directorates, planning the continuous improvement and maintenance programmes and leading a small team to deliver these improvements alongside the management of external support contracts. This role would be suitable for a Senior People or Finance Systems Manager with strong stakeholder management skills who is looking to take the next step in their career combining both disciplines. Team Leadership

Payroll, Pension and Reward

• Accountable for the delivery of the UK monthly payroll and pension processes, providing oversight and support to the work of the in-house Payroll Officer and being a back-up to their role, to ensure payroll is run accurately each month.
• Implement the annual pay award operationally ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of payment to all UK based staff.
• Implementation of a new payroll system for the UK.

Systems and Reporting

• Responsible for maintaining and using our HR Information System, PeoplePlace effectively and efficiently, partner with the Global Systems Administrator so that all UK based employee data is correct and in compliance with data protection.
• Drive the importance of data and people analytics and create a culture of data-based decision making and insight across the team.
• Joint ownership of UK headcount establishment data with key stakeholder in Finance.
• Annual analysis and statutory reporting of the Pay Gap in the UK.
• Annual reporting of our data to external charity sector Pay Club and other bodies that we seek guidance on as part of our annual pay award assessment.
• Develop, implement, and maintain people KPI's, reporting and management information requirements to inform organisational performance and better decision making.

Compliance and Contract Management

• Act as the UK Team specialist on areas of HR compliance, working with third parties and specialist advisors, to ensure that our policies, processes and practice are compliant and meet legal requirements.
• Responsible for GDPR in the People Team, provide senior expertise and build capability across the wider people function.
• Manage the relationship and contracts with third party providers and suppliers for all UK based initiatives such as, but not limited to, our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), Benefits Provider to ensure an effective, value for money service that meet our our business needs at all times.

Other

• Ownership of salary calculations in the event of employee termination.
• Budget management and invoice approval.
• Custodian of the maintenance of the UK operational delivery folders and their content.

About the Role:
Functional skills

• Proven experience of leading, managing and developing a high performing people operations team in a matrix, fast paced organisation.
• Proven experience of managing and running in-house payroll for 250 staff or more.
• Excellent understanding of HR policy development; and proven experience of developing and embedding HR policies, processes and procedures that are fit for purpose.
• A qualified and robust HR Practitioner who has sound and up to date knowledge of employment law, tax and legislative requirements affecting a wide spectrum of HR policies and practice, i.e. payroll, pension, reward and benefits together with their application in the context of the employee experience.
• Working knowledge and experience of HR and Payroll systems, to maximise the functionality and create efficiencies.

The Senior Philanthropy Manager will manage an agreed portfolio of donors and prospects (individual, foundation and corporate) with clear strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of each. This is an exciting role that will be responsible for leading our brand-new Philanthropy and Partnership’s Research and Engagement Team.  This team is responsible for ensuring direct fundraisers are equipped to make compelling asks and steward donors.
