ACT (or Aldates Community Transformation Initiatives) is a welcoming community that includes many with lived experience of prison, street homelessness or addiction. Through street and prison outreach, community meals, mentoring and housing, we help people rebuild their lives after some of life’s toughest experiences.

Everything we do is designed to help people find belonging, purpose and hope. That looks different for each person. But most of our activities are rooted in relationship – whether that’s bacon butty breakfasts, small group sessions, back-to-work projects or our annual holiday.

ACT is a registered charity with the board of trustees drawn from within the church, including the Rector. Occasionally we invite other trustees with specific expertise. ACT has a total income of around £400,000 per annum, five salaried staff, and over 100 volunteers from within the church. Staff are employed by St Aldates PCC and seconded to the ACT Charity with the Head of Charity line managed by the St Aldates COO.

ST ALDATES and ACT CHARITY

ACT has a strong connection with St Aldates Church which supports the ministry with people, practical support and use of office and gathering spaces. The Head of Charity is key to leading the outreach work of St Aldates.

As a city centre church, working alongside people who are poor or marginalised is a key part of St Aldates’ ministry and is carried out largely through ACT.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Crucial to the success of ACT is the Head of Charity, who provides leadership and vision, ensures that its activities are underpinned by prayer, and that this work remains central to the ministry of St Aldates.

As the Head of Charity, you will drive the charity's mission and vision alongside the Board, ensuring our community receives the best possible support.

You will have a heart for those who have been marginalised, and experience of running a business or charity. Your role will be to lead staff and volunteers in the vision and manage funds and key projects. Partnering with others across other charities, key stakeholders and donors you will become a strong ambassador for the charity.

Education Officer

This is an exciting opportunity for an Education Officer to coordinate and deliver the Depaul Education programme.

Position: Education Officer - Prevention

Location: Milton Keynes

Contract: Fixed-term until 31/03/2025 (with potential for extension, pending funding)

About the Role

Working with the guidance and support of the National Education Programme Manager and the wider Prevention Team, you will be responsible for coordinating and delivering the Depaul Education programme in a range of settings, including schools, colleges and Pupil Referral Units across Milton Keynes. The programme aims to prevent youth homelessness by running bold and creative workshops on the subject for large groups of young people, as well as more intensive sessions with smaller groups on related issues such as healthy relationships and conflict management. It also includes training teachers and professionals working with young people on homelessness.

You will be responsible for building long-term relationships with educational institutions to support their young people. This will include selling the programme and meeting specific delivery targets. You will also play a key role in monitoring and evaluating our work to ensure it has the highest impact possible.

Key responsibilities include:

• Effectively lead and coordinate the Depaul education programme in your region.
• Deliver the programme’s workshops to children and young people aged 11-18 in a variety of education and youth settings, including facilitating assemblies, classroom-based workshops and small group work, as well as delivering sessions virtually if required.
• Design and prepare engaging, innovative and high-quality resources and workshops that are integrated with the national curriculum and differentiated to meet the needs of children and young people with complex needs.
• Work collaboratively with the wider national team to periodically review and update the programme content, based on feedback and in line with developments in the sector.
• Take responsibility for, with full support, building strong partnerships with educational institutions in your region, including marketing the programme, generating income and meeting identified targets.
• Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including other agencies and statutory teams) to promote the programme and develop clear referral routes for young people into other services.
• Be responsible for the timely and accurate recording of all activities and keeping the database up-to-date, overseeing the monitoring and evaluation procedures in your base region.
• Keep up-to-date with current issues affecting young people in your region and ensure the programme is tailored to the specific needs and context of the area you are responsible for. This may include designing bespoke projects within the parameters of our programme and quality standards, if appropriate.

About You

You will need to have the following skills and experience:

• Excellent ability to work productively with children and young people: skilled at building rapport, managing behaviour and addressing difficult topics appropriately.
• Confident to deliver engaging presentations, workshops and training to large groups of children, young people and adults, both in-person and virtually.
• Experience of designing and developing high-quality and innovative educational resources, lesson plans and workshops for children and young people in line with the national curriculum and other statutory guidance.
• Strong relationship management skills, able to build constructive partnerships with a range of professionals, influence senior figures and effectively explain the impact of our work.
• Working knowledge of target-driven environments, marketing and generating income; remaining motivated and using innovative approaches to solve problems and sell our work, ensuring we reach as many young people as possible.
• Demonstrable interest in the issues and challenges that face children and young people growing up in the UK. A knowledge of themes including homelessness, healthy relationships and risk-taking is desirable.

The Role

About the Role

Service Delivery

Fundraising Manager

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Fundraising Manager to become a vital part of a small, friendly and ambitious fundraising team.

Position: Fundraising Manager

Location: Hybrid working – primarily homebased with occasional travel to Maidenhead

Salary: £34,978 per annum

Contract: Full time, permanent

About the role:

The fundraising team raise approximately £400K annually and aspiring to grow by over half a million by 2025. You will be responsible for leading and growing income via the charities Corporate Partnerships and Sporting Challenges. The ideal candidate will have high-level experience in corporate fundraising.

Key responsibilities include:

• Provide excellent account management to some of the charities existing and new corporate relationships.
• Carry out effective prospect research.
• Engage companies in our sporting challenges.
• Nurture effective relationships with corporate partners to achieve the best outcomes for the charity.
• Manage and grow the charities portfolio of challenge events to maximise income from this fundraising stream to achieve and exceed set income and expenditure targets, offering opportunities for engagement, and fundraising across the calendar year.
• Plan and deliver the marketing and recruitment of a range of events, including the London Marathon and other major running, hiking, cycling, swimming, skydiving and ultra-challenges.
• Coordinate and create content for the Fundraising Team communications via social media and digital communications to increase engagement from supporters.
• Create and manage annual budget lines to ensure income and expenditure meet set financial targets to maximise a return on investment.
• Monitor and report on income and expenditure for the relevant budget lines.
• Actively participate in team meetings.
• Attend key fundraising events and annual conference.

About you:

To be successful in this role you will have:

• A proven track record of successfully managing a charity’s corporate partnerships and sporting challenges.
• Good knowledge of the principals of customer service/supporter care and donor development.
• Sound knowledge of GDPR and the impact on fundraising in terms of on-going consent and deletions of donors.
• Significant experience of working within a charity in a similar fundraising role.
• Experience of developing new fundraising products and building a programme of engagement to grow fundraising income.
• Experience of managing events, preferably sporting challenge events.
• Excellent digital skills with experience of using a variety of online platforms, including website editing, image re-sizing, social media, and e-news content creation.
• Experience of using a CRM database to maintain data accurately, and an understanding of how to extract and evaluate information.
• Strong presentation, negotiation and influencing skills with a creative and entrepreneurial outlook.
• Strong project management skills.
• Excellent MS Office skills in the use of email, Word and Excel and PowerPoint.
• Use of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter including knowledge of a content management system for updating websites and images.

We are looking for an individual who has deep compassion for the poor and a passion for social justice, who can help us develop these ministries and look for other opportunities to expand this work. Our aim is to respond to the clear call of scripture and ministry of Jesus to attend to the needs of the poor and the oppressed.We want to find ways to help build a safety net for individuals who are vulnerable to being mistreated and exploited.We also want to create clear pathways to help these individuals find faith and a place in local church community.

This is a new role, working 2.5 days per week on a fixed 1 year contract, with the possibility of extension subject to future funding.

The role of Office Coordinator is essential to the efficient and effective day-to-day work of the organisation, ensuring the team are well equipped to successfully carry out their roles and helping the organisation to support the optimum number of young people to the highest possible quality. Whilst you will have specific areas of responsibility (see below), you will also be expected to contribute towards the wider vision of Matrix Trust, as appropriate. 

1) Office and Building

• Support Maintain and, where necessary improve, office systems.
• Proactively ensure the building is clean, tidy and maintained to a high standard, liaising with SLT and external contractors where necessary to achieve this.
• Proactively purchase and restock office, cleaning and hygiene resources, ensuring a ready supply at all times.
• Proactively purchase and restock staff refreshments, ensuring a ready supply at all times.
• Proactively ensure physical and digital notice boards are kept up-to-date.
• Proactively ensure digital team calendars are kept up-to-date.
• Support the team in utilising the GSuite and printing facilities.
• Act as the first point of contact for all internal and external queries, ensuring that emails, phone messages and postal enquiries are responded to promptly.
• Support the Head of Operations in their role as Senior Fire Marshall, Health and Safety Officer, and Data Protection Officer.
• Prepare rooms for team meetings and events, as required.

2) Human Resources Support

• Utilising our HR database, maintain accurate, organised and confidential HR records.
• Liaising with Line Managers, administer the annual leave and sickness process.
• Liaising with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, administer the DBS process.
• Support the Head of Operations by administering the recruitment and induction processes.
• Support the Head of Operations by administering the team performance processes, including probations and appraisals.
• Coordinate and book staff training, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
• Coordinate a range of inclusive team social events.

3) General Administrative

• Support Support the Head of Operations in maintaining detailed and accurate records of the grant application process.
• Support the Head of Operations with basic data entry on grant applications.
• Support the Head of Operations in collating data for grants applications and any necessary reports.
• Support the wider team with occasional administrative tasks, as required.
• Provide occasional administrative support to the Board of Trustees and SLT, as required.
