We're looking for an ambitious and influential Manager, Physics Workforce on a full-time, permanent basis, to lead research, insight and engagement that helps our stakeholders better appreciate and understand the value of physics skills, the workforce challenges facing physics-powered sectors, and identify solutions that make a lasting difference.
Physics for our future. From clean energy and advanced manufacturing to healthcare, defence, digital technologies and emerging industries, physics skills are critical to economic growth, innovation and solving global challenges. Yet, at the same time, the contribution of physics skills remains poorly understood and often invisible in national workforce conversations. The Institute of Physics is determined to change that.
Why this role matters. Our vision is a world where physics transforms lives, creates opportunity and helps tackle society's biggest challenges. The Manager, Physics Workforce will play a central role in building evidence and supporting the translation of insight into action.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape national conversations. You'll uncover evidence that informs decision-making, develop thought leadership that challenges assumptions, and support the building of partnerships that drive positive change across industry, education and government.
What will I be doing? As Manager, Physics Workforce, you'll help position the IOP as a trusted authority on workforce and physics skills issues. You will:
- Lead high-profile workforce and skills research programmes across the UK and Ireland.
- Develop compelling evidence and insight that supports change and informs decision-making.
- Translate complex evidence into clear, persuasive narratives that inspire action.
- Produce influential reports, briefings and thought leadership.
- Identify emerging workforce trends and opportunities.
- Contribute to skills and workforce activity across our strategic priorities of Skills, Science and Society.
In doing the above you'll help:

- Raise the visibility of pathways into physics-powered careers.
- Ensure evidence drives action across the physics skills ecosystem.
- Help create a stronger, more diverse and more future-ready workforce.
Who will I work with? You'll engage with a diverse network of influential stakeholders, including industry leaders and employers; sector bodies and workforce experts; policymakers and strategic influencers; members of our physics community, and colleagues across the IOP.
This is a role for a strategic thinker, someone who enjoys collaboration and working across organisational and sector boundaries.
About you. You're naturally curious, motivated by impact and comfortable navigating complex challenges. You know how to turn evidence into influence and insight into action.
You may already be working in:
- Workforce development, skills/STEM policy or public affairs, or labour market research and analysis.
Most importantly, you'll bring:
- Exceptional research and analytical capability, with the ability to create compelling narratives from data and evidence.
- Domain knowledge and understanding of the complexities of the skills ecosystem.
- Strong project and programme leadership experience.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
- A track record of delivering work that informs decisions and drives change.
Why join the Institute of Physics, the professional body and learned society for physics in the UK and Ireland? The IOP is a friendly, inclusive and ambitious organisation, where diversity and inclusion are central to how we work. We focus on supporting our people to thrive, offering competitive pay, great development opportunities and a generous benefits package.

- An excellent pension scheme
- Private medical insurance, life assurance, dental insurance and a healthcare cash plan
- Eye care vouchers, annual flu vaccinations, long service awards and access to an employee assistance programme

About Alexandra Rose Charity
We should all be able to eat healthy food. But right now, healthy options cost more than twice as much as junk food. It’s getting harder and harder for people to put good food on the table. In fact, the poorest fifth of UK households would need to spend 50% of their disposable income to eat the UK Government’s recommended healthy diet. Access to a choice of high quality, culturally appropriate fruit & veg is an essential building block for our mental and physical health. We need to put this right. We’re on a mission to give people access to their choice of fresh fruit & veg, in the heart of their community. At Alexandra Rose, we are proud to deliver a mix of practical, place-based projects and national advocacy to shape a fairer future, where everyone can afford and enjoy fresh fruit & veg with dignity. If this aligns with how you see the world, and you want to use your skills and experience to help us build towards it, you’ll feel at home here.
About the role
Alexandra Rose collects and uses a wide range of data to help us run our programmes, understand our impact and influence policy change. We have developed monitoring, reporting and evaluation systems that help us track programme delivery, make informed decisions and demonstrate the difference our work makes to the diets, health and wellbeing of adults and children. We are looking for a proactive and analytical Data and Insights Officer with a keen eye for detail, who thrives on improving data quality, analysing complex information and generating insights that support decision-making across an organisation. You will play a key role in improving Alexandra Rose's data systems and reporting. Working across programme and evaluation data, you will help clean and analyse data, develop dashboards and reports, generate insights for use both internally and for our external partners. You will work closely with our technical partner and distributing centres to ensure that data is reliable, our reporting is robust and our projects can continue to grow effectively.
We want our organisation to reflect the diversity of the communities we work in, and we welcome applications from people from all backgrounds.
N.B This role is mainly remote with requirement to travel to meetings across the UK.
Use of AI in applications
We recognise that candidates may choose to use AI tools to support aspects of their application, such as grammar, formatting, or drafting. We understand that using AI tools in this way can help you express your strengths more clearly. However, your final submission must be a genuine, accurate reflection of your own skills, experience, and understanding of the role. To support integrity and transparency in our recruitment process, we ask that you include a brief note explaining where and how AI tools were used in your application. Please submit your CV and cover letter through the Charity Jobs Portal only. We use anonymous recruitment applications sent by email will not be included in the selection process.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and we may close the vacancy ahead of
the advertised deadline if sufficient suitable applications are received. We encourage

This is a new role at ECU, being recruited as part of a wider programme of work to deepen the relationships between national organisations working on economic systems change and grassroots campaigners. The Campaigns Lead will work closely with the Head of Campaigns on driving forward our high-impact campaigns for economic systems change.
For at least the first year, the Campaigns Lead will be working primarily on our coalition campaign on the cost of living crisis, Cost of Living Action. The campaign, which is currently made up of over 40 organisations from across civil society, unions and grassroots groups, aims to end the cost of living crisis and put in place solutions to prevent it from ever happening again. It focuses on our policy demands in five areas that drive the cost of living crisis: wages, social security, energy, housing and taxation. The campaign positions itself as the civil society coalition focused on the cost of living as a whole, and that solutions to it must be addressed that way. The campaign relaunched in early 2026 and has a vital role to play in putting media and political pressure on the government to take action.
We also work closely with those most impacted by the crisis and aim to centre the voices of those with lived experience of economic hardship in all that we do. This role will shape and drive forward a programme of impactful communications, advocacy and other campaigning activities under the rebooted campaign to secure transformative changes that bring real improvement to people’s lives. There is ample opportunity to engage politically in this role, increasing as you develop in the position.

- The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
- Confidence influencing and challenging senior stakeholders
- Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills
