Are you looking for an exciting new fundraising challenge? We're recruiting an inspiring, senior fundraiser to join the Francis Crick Institute, Cancer Research UK's flagship discovery research institute in London

Positioned at the frontier of scientific discovery, the Crick is deliberately different from other institutes-open, collaborative, and interdisciplinary. As Europe's largest biomedical research facility under one roof, our design and approach enable us to fuel scientific progress like few others. Here, experts from various fields unite in pursuit of life-changing discoveries.

This role will focus on developing and building a mixed portfolio of prospects for the Francis Crick Institute. You will be responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting gifts (£1M+) to support the Crick's growing philanthropy programme, working closely with colleagues across the Crick Philanthropy Team as well as the wider CRUK philanthropy programme.

Your work will help ensure that we help change lives for the better, delivering the research that means we will overcome cancer and many other diseases.

It is a unique time to join the Crick. With a new Director, campaign and the profile of the institute, you will have every opportunity to have real impact.

What will I be doing?

  • Manage a portfolio of up to 100 individuals and families as well as some corporate prospects with a primary focus on identifying and qualifying prospects and developing the engagement and stewardship of prospects through the full life cycle of giving and renewal. Ensure consistent pipeline movement and contribution of prospects both through their giving as well as helping to build the Crick's donor pipeline.

  • Work closely with CRUK Philanthropy Services for creative and operational support to identify, engage, and steward Crick donors.

  • Achieve agreed fundraising income and prospect cultivation targets and provide regular reporting and metrics against goals.

  • Partner with the CRUK and Crick Leadership, Chairman, Trustees, as well as scientists, Philanthropy colleagues to develop and implement strategies for gifts of £1M+; help the development and supporting the management of volunteer leaders committed to advancing Crick philanthropy; guide discussions with senior leadership on prospect strategy.

  • Own, develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders; including academics and researchers, institutional leaders, volunteer leaders, and writing briefings and coordinating engagement that will lead to gifts.

  • Support the Associate Director of Philanthropy (Crick) to develop and implement the Crick Campaign including case for support, engaging and influencing leaders to identify priority projects and gift opportunities to maximise income generation.

  • Develop a strong working knowledge of the work and science at the Crick and broad knowledge of the work of CRUK. Work closely with internal colleagues to coordinate engagement with Crick scientists and leadership to develop proposals and propositions.

What are you looking for?

  • Proven success in philanthropic fundraising within complex, high-achieving organisations.

  • Strong track record of securing six and seven-figure gifts.

  • Skilled in building and expanding a personal pipeline, cultivating relationships with philanthropic individuals and families.

  • Deep expertise in principal and major gift fundraising, with a strong grasp of best practices and current philanthropic trends.

  • Extensive experience managing multiple complex projects in fast-paced environments, including significant fundraising campaigns.

  • Proficient in translating scientific research for diverse audiences to support fundraising efforts.
