Support Coordinator

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team in South Warwickshire, including Rugby.  We’re looking for enthusiastic, motivated and well organised individuals to join the team in delivering a comprehensive Stroke Recovery Service across the region.

This is an exciting home based opportunity working with stroke survivors and their families to support them following a stroke.

Position: S11228 Stroke Support Coordinator (two positions)

Location: Home-based South Warwickshire, including Rugby. Extensive travel will be required as part of this role (will include team meetings and other work-related meetings)

Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: Circa £26,700 per annum

Contract: This is a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2026. Our services are contracted, we currently have funding for this contract until 31 March 2026.

The Role

Reporting to the Stroke Service Delivery Coach, the coordinators will work with the local Health and Social Care services to receive referrals and support stroke survivors and their carers. As a coordinator you will provide personalised information, advice and support with regular reviews throughout.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Working with the local Health and Social services to receive referrals to support stroke survivors and their careers

• Providing personalised information, advice and support to address any needs identified

• Completing Needs Assessments with stroke survivors and supporting them to develop a stroke recovery plan

• Providing regular reviews to support people in establishing and achieving their own personal goals. 

About You

You will:

• Have a background in a caring and/or charity profession supporting people with disabilities

• Be able to demonstrate previous experience of working collaboratively with other organisations to achieve joint ambitions. 

• Have experience of working with people who may have additional communication support needs

• Have the ability to use basic Microsoft system

The Role

Background and purpose

Metabolic Support UK (MSUK) is the umbrella patient organisation for people living with and affected by Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMDs). We are a UK-based organisation with an international reach. There are approximately 40,000 people in the UK living with one of around 1,500 IMDs. Globally an estimated 71, 260 people are born with these conditions each year and 1.43 million people live with IMDs worldwide. 

IMDs are rare, lifelong genetic disorders that affect people in a variety of ways including lifestyle, lifespan, diet and medication needs and symptoms. Sadly, some disorders can cause irreversible complications or death. 
 
Since our inception in 1981, we have been at the forefront of rare disease community development; as a founding member of EURORDIS, expanding newborn screening, accelerating the development of IMD treatments, and empowering our community through the Living Well Movement.We enable our inherited metabolic disorder community to live well by offering individual support, building connections, and developing evidence-based insight. 

The role 

MSUK is looking to recruit a dynamic, ambitious and confident Fundraising Manager to work with the Chief Executive to develop and implement our income strategy. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Fundraising Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be a core member of the team, developing and delivering the income stream for the charity with fundraising strategies that support MSUK’s mission. The role will report to the Chief Executive and will be responsible for driving forward all aspects of fundraising, including building corporate partnerships, individual giving, major donors, trusts and foundations, legacies and community. The MSUK team is a small but agile team and we expect the successful candidate to be a self-starter with a “can do” attitude, lots of energy and an ability to work autonomously. Main Responsibilities:

Fundraising Management and Development

• Work with the Chief Executive to develop and implement a balanced and realistic fundraising strategy, which builds on MSUK strengths and maximises income for the charity.

• Deliver an integrated fundraising programme, which includes corporate partnerships, individual giving, major donors, trusts and foundations, legacies, community and events.

• Ensure all fundraising activity is compliant with GDPR and relevant fundraising regulation and that all data is accurate and maintained efficiently.

• To maintain and develop the donor CRM platform (currently Nutshell) including building supporter journeys to enhance donor experiences and maximise income for the charity.

• Provide up to date funding reports and fundraising forecasts for the board

• Work with the team to ensure that all opportunities to promote MSUK and develop our fundraising and supporter engagement experiences are explored and maximised.

• With the CEO, manage all aspects of finance and reporting relating to fundraising, including annual budgets, monthly reporting and re-forecasting. Provide monthly reports and updates on all fundraising activities and income streams

• Work with the communications team, internal colleagues and external stakeholders to create impactful storytelling and supporter engagement opportunities to maximise revenue streams.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

Family Support Lead

As Family Liaison Officer, a big part of your role will be providing tailored support, information and advice to families from diagnosis onwards.  This will include:

o Responding to enquiries from families

o Assessing support needs and signposting to external services as appropriate

o Providing follow-up remote support where required

o Providing face-to-face support at occasional clinics (normally based in London)

o Designing and maintaining support processes and systems

o Monitoring engagement and using insight gained to make recommendations for service improvement

Emotional Wellbeing Lead

As our lead emotional wellbeing practitioner, you will assist in the design and delivery of several of our projects and events.  These will include:

o Providing support and facilitating daily group sessions with young people aged 11-25 at our annual USHthis! summer camp (in 2025, the camp will take place from Friday 25th July - Friday 1st August and you will need to be available for these dates)

o Help to deliver our one-day events in the spring and autumn

o Co-create the Empowerment Programme for 17-25 year olds with Usher syndrome.  This is a pilot programme that aims to support our young adults in developing self-advocacy and identity alongside mentoring through the key milestones in young adult life

o Facilitate 1:1 and group sessions on the Empowerment Programme

o Facilitate monthly virtual USHchats for parents and carers (these take place one evening a month)

Across all aspects of the role, you will need to ensure the safeguarding of and promote the welfare of children and adults at risk who are engaging with Usher Kids UK.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Experience and Knowledge:

o Over 2 years’ experience of providing emotional wellbeing support to:

- children and adolescents

- parents/carers and family members

o Experience of supporting families with additional needs

o Experience of supporting families with sensory or dual sensory needs (desirable)

o Experience of family support case management

You will:

• Demonstrate relevant experience and proven track record within volunteering and community engagement / fundraising.
• Have a good understanding of volunteer motivations, with the ability to manage and work with volunteers and / or local communities.
• Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written, a clear and confident presentation style, and the ability to carry out public speaking, handling press / media enquiries and use of social media.

The role is within our Fundraising & Communications team of four staff and works in collaboration with regional Senior Network Managers. There is an opportunity for the post holder to collaborate with the Partnerships Manager on the development of applications to corporate foundations.

Income generation

• Primary focus of the role is the responsibility for Trusts & Foundations fundraising, to meet annual targets.
• Develop compelling funding propositions and case for support to meet priorities, working closely with colleagues in Fundraising & Communications, Programmes and Monitoring, Research, Evaluation & Learning.
• Maintain an up to date pipeline of prospects through research and excellent record keeping, ensuring that applications are made to meet known deadlines.
• Ensure that all reporting and grant monitoring is delivered in a timely manner, working closely with the MERL Manager and colleagues across Programmes.
• Provide internal management information and reporting to the Head of Fundraising on a quarterly basis, or as required.

Stewardship

• Develop data management processes, ensuring timely impact reporting or other agreed deliverables.
• Ensure all donations and supporters are thanked in a timely and appropriate mode to their giving channel.
• Keep all relevant donor and financial information up-to-date on Salesforce, ensuring adherence to GDPR and other relevant good practice, as defined by the Fundraising Regulator and other sector bodies.
• Work with colleagues in Fundraising & Communications and CEO to deliver appropriate partner recognition including events and other engagement activities.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

You will have at least five years relevant experience, ideally with at least three years working in fundraising and be able to demonstrate previous success in generating income and achieving targets. You will be an exceptional communicator with the confidence to work on your own initiative and to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You will be well organised with excellent attention to detail, work well under pressure and have the ability to think both strategically and operationally. Experience of working with CRM systems is preferred.

You have a good understanding of the disadvantages faced by both women and those from the least advantaged communities and have a drive to rectify the inequalities that currently exist.

You understand the time and resource limitations of a small charity, and you thrive on the potential to make a real difference with your work

Introduction and background

The Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA) was founded in 2011 by people with lived experience, healthcare professionals, and organisations who understood the impact of perinatal mental problems and shared a commitment to improving the lives of women and their families.

Today, the MMHA is a UK-wide charity and network of over 130 member organisations. We work with parents, families, clinicians, and academics to ensure all women, birthing people, babies, and families have access to high-quality, compassionate mental health care. We bring the perinatal mental health community together and make change happen by combining the power of real-life experience with clinical and professional expertise.

We actively contribute to significantly improving mental health outcomes for people who experience discrimination, trauma and deprivation during the perinatal period and tackle systemic inequity and injustice.

We are now seeking a Chief Executive to take over from our interim CEO and lead the MMHA in the next stage of our development.

We have recently been awarded a 5-year grant by the National Lottery Community Fund to tackle maternal mental health inequities through community action. This project, due to start in Spring 2025, will develop, test and replicate a model of community-based decision making, support and service provision that is led by women with lived experience. This project aims to achieve system change locally and nationally to improve the mental health of marginalised women and is the next phase of the MMHA’s programme to tackle maternal mental health inequities across the UK. This will be our biggest piece of work over the next five years and will dovetail with other activities aimed at achieving our mission, where funding allows.

Main responsibilities

Leadership and strategy

• To provide clear strategic and inspirational leadership to the MMHA To drive the MMHA forward into the next stage of its development
• To ensure MMHA tackles maternal mental health inequities across the UK
• To be responsible for the management and administration of the charity within the strategic and accountability frameworks laid down by the Board of Trustees
• To work with Chair and Trustees in shaping the MMHA’s strategic mission, policies, aims and objectives
• To ensure long term sustainability of the MMHA through effective governance, sound finance and implementation of operational plans.

People

• To take overall responsibility for all permanent and temporary staff, and other members of the MMHA team, including contractors, champions and ambassadors
• To promote diversity and equality of opportunity for all staff in accordance with the MMHA EDI policy and strategy and foster a workplace culture built on inclusion, respect and equality.

Governance, finance and compliance

• To support the Chair and Trustees to ensure that the governance of the charity is proportionate and effective, and that the charity fulfils its legal, statutory, regulatory and moral duties and responsibilities
• To be responsible overall for the financial sustainability of the charity, and ensure that there are effective mechanisms to ensure the robustness of external and internal controls (financial and non-financial), supported by the Consultant Finance Director
• To support the Consultant Finance Director to ensure the timely and complete preparation of key reports, information and activities, including management accounts, budgets, annual report and accounts, and payroll
• To ensure that the major risks to which the charity is exposed are reviewed regularly by the Board and the Executive team, systems have been established to mitigate these risks
• To work with the Chair and the Board Secretary to ensure that meetings of trustees are effective and that Trustees have appropriate information to perform their duties.

Income generation

• To take overall responsibility for the MMHA’s income generation activities, securing the future of the organisation and delivering its ambition for the mental health of women during the perinatal period
• To lead on all trust, foundation and lottery fundraising, establishing and maintaining relationships, including with the National Lottery Community Fund
• To support the Marketing & Partnerships Director to develop corporate partnerships, taking the lead on the relationship with Tommee Tippee
• To work with the Marketing & Partnerships Director to secure funding from individuals.

Communications and external affairs

• To support the Head of Engagement to maintain a relevant, diverse and effective range of members organisations, and ensure their ongoing contribution to achieving the goals of the charity 4
• To have oversight of the social, economic, clinical and policy context and how they impact on maternal mental health and MMHA strategy
• To ensure the Alliance is working effectively across the 4 UK nations and devolved administrations
• To act as a visible leader for the charity, representing the MMHA at external events and networking opportunities, and act as a spokesperson
• To oversee the development and delivery of marketing and communications strategies which effectively promote all aspects of the Alliance.

Other/service delivery

• To embed MMHA’s values throughout the organisation
• To promote a culture of commitment, trust, mutual support and professional behaviour
• To run the charity efficiently and effectively by ensuring that it has an appropriate management structure and management systems in order to fulfil its strategic objectives and to carry out its work

Call for Expression of Interest for a Consultant to conduct a retrospective study among patients in Sierra Leone, who received eyeglasses between 3 and 5 years ago, to understand their usage and experience, supported by the Livelihood Impact Fund's Eyeglasses Initiative.

Anticipated Consultancy Length: 25 days between February 1st and April 30th 2025.

Overview of the Consultancy:

Sightsavers is being supported by the Livelihood Impact Fund's Eyeglasses Initiative to generate new evidence on the usability, durability and wearability of near vision eyeglasses among patients in Sierra Leone. Using our existing eye care project in Freetown, Sightsavers will conduct a retrospective study among patients who received eyeglasses between 3 and 5 years ago, to understand who uses those glasses, whether they have been replaced, and their experiences of wearing the glasses. Furthermore, this pilot study will determine the feasibility of following up with these patients and provide information about the feasibility and cost of conducting a similar study at national scale.

Sightsavers is seeking an experienced researcher with strong quantitative data collection and management skills to support the timely delivery of a pilot operational research study into the durability, usability and wearability of eyeglasses in Sierra Leone. The consultant will work closely with members of Sightsavers' Sierra Leone office, and Sightsavers' global leads in research and refractive error to plan and deliver this pilot research study. The consultant will supervise and support two data collectors who will be hired specifically to support with data capture for this study.

Purpose of the Consultancy:

The consultant will be responsible for delivering the following:

• A correct and accurate database of fully digitised patient records from the selected facilities;
• A complete and accurate set of follow-up data from patients selected to participate in the telephone survey.
• Draft and input into reports about study activities and results.

Schedule of Payment

This consultancy will take place between February 1st and April 30th 2025. In total the consultant will work for 25 days and be paid a rate of USD 150 per day.

Consultant specifications

• The consultant will have demonstrable experience in developing and supervising quantitative data collection exercises using electronic applications.
• The consultant will have demonstrable experience in supervising data collectors and implementing quality assurances processes.
• The consultant will have demonstrable experience in conducting research or collecting health data from members of the public.
