CHARITY FOUNDATION MANAGER REQUIRED

James Marshall Foundation (JMF) is a long-established local charity. Its mission is to support financially disadvantaged young people aged 4 to 24 years old living in Harpenden, Wheathampstead, Kimpton, Redbourn, Flamstead or Markyate by awarding individual grants for education and career development opportunities.
In 2024, JMF awarded over 850 individual grants totalling £200,000.

We are seeking a dedicated Foundation Manager to oversee the operational and strategic management of the James Marshall Foundation.

The JMF has an endowment and as such, our focus is on the effective distribution of funds to support our objectives and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the charity.

The Foundation Manager is responsible for, amongst other things, managing the grant process, overseeing financial stewardship (including in respect of the foundation’s properties), supporting the trustees, fulfilling compliance and reporting obligations, and maintaining the visibility of JMF with local schools and other relevant bodies. The Foundation Manager will manage a team of 3 part-time Foundation Associates.

The role is based in our office in Harpenden, with the expectation of hours being 28–30 hours a week on a minimum of 4 days. Attendance at some evening meetings will be required.
Salary: £45–50,000 FTE

• Experience of developing and managing tenders for outsourcing large scale technology-driven services, creating targets and OKR’s and managing their delivering at a senior level
• Working knowledge and experience of content management systems, customer relationship management (CRM), multi-channelled operations and relevant digital information systems
• Experience of leading on cross sector partnerships
• Experience of product delivery through co-production
• Experience of managing an expenditure budget of £1.5m
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data accurately and concisely in easily readable materials and reports

• A good technical appreciation and experience of several indirect procurement categories that include marketing.

What You’ll Do:

We are recruiting for a Service Manager who is passionate about supporting survivors who are impacted by domestic abuse and other gender-based crimes. This is a multifaceted, fast paced, and exciting role where you will join our team in Derby to lead on the delivery and development of high-quality refuge and outreach services for survivors of domestic abuse and other gender-based crimes. 

The post holder will provide line management and high-quality support to the direct reports in line with Refuge’s policies and procedures. This will include providing supervision on complex and high-risk cases, overseeing operational emergencies, and ensuring high standards of casework. The Service Manager will lead on the delivery of the multiagency aspect of work, working jointly with the Refuge teams and wider stakeholders to deliver best services to the survivors. 

Candidates must have proven experience of providing direct emotional and practical support to vulnerable people, managing, and motivating staff, managing casework as well as working within multiagency setting.  In addition, you must have an excellent knowledge of domestic abuse and other gender-based violence and its impact on survivors.  You will have knowledge of relevant Criminal and Civil law legislation, as well as Housing and Health and Safety legislation.

As part of this role, you will be required to participate in an out-of-hours on call rota. Please note that this is an on-site role.

User support and operations

• Triage, prioritise and manage all incoming support queries across services
• Ensure time-sensitive and legally significant cases (e.g. GDPR requests, Online Safety Act reports) are tracked, escalated, and resolved appropriately
• Manage our support workflows and volunteer contributions to deliver timely, high-quality assistance
• Collaborate with product and service owners to share insights and identify areas for improvement
• Help improve help guides and user-facing support documentation

Governance

• Maintain and update service policies, processes, and risk management protocols
• Ensure compliance with relevant laws and standards (including GDPR and media law)
• Monitor risk and report issues to senior management
• Coordinate regular internal meetings, reporting on service performance and operational updates

Requirements

We think this position would suit you best if you have some or all of the following:

• Experience managing complex, high-traffic digital services
• Strategic thinker with strong judgement and ability to manage ambiguity
• Passion for quality and service improvement
• Excellent understanding of GDPR and experience handling rights-based requests
• Familiarity with Freedom of Information, media law, or moderating online communities
• Skilled in identifying and solving problems and improving systems
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Comfortable working in a remote team and supporting volunteers

Benefits

This is a permanent role with a salary in the range of £45,000 to £55,000 per year, plus pension (4% employer, 4% employee).

About the Role:

As Head of People, you will lead the strategic direction and operational delivery of our People function, championing and developing a culture where our coaches and support teams can thrive. Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the People function with strategic and operational oversight of all HR activities, aligning with organisational goals and values.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on staff development plans and lead and measure staff engagement and support broader cultural development efforts.
• Partner with managers across the organisation to develop their skills and ensure consistency in approach.
• Manage employee relations issues, ensuring fair and legally compliant outcomes, with varying levels of complexity.
• Lead and continuously improve recruitment practices, driving forward our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy, embedding it into all areas of people practice.
• Maintain responsibility for safeguarding compliance within HR policies and practices and act as Deputy Safeguarding Lead.
• Lead and continuously improve HR systems, policies, and procedures.
• Manage and support the development of the HR Officer.

Who We’re Looking For:

• CIPD Level 7 qualified, or demonstrable equivalent experience including experience in a senior HR role.
• Passionate about improving the lives of young people through sport, and inclusivity in the workplace
• Strong leadership and influencing skills. Self-motivated, discreet and able to deal with confidential information professionally.
• In-depth knowledge of employment law and best practice HR across the employee lifecycle
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive and collaborative approach

Our client Henry Smith Charity is seeking an experienced Governance Manager to join their team. You'll manage the charity’s governance framework, support trustees and leadership, contribute to governance projects, ensure legal compliance, and aid in trustee recruitment and development.

The Henry Smith Charity is an independent grant making trust that was established in 1628 by Henry Smith. The charity's mission is to utilise its resources to assist individuals and communities in times of need, aiming to bring about positive change by funding organisations that work to reduce social and economic disadvantage.

This is a part time role offering 2.5 or 3 days a week. They are very open to discuss how these hours are worked. They do offer hybrid working. You would be required to attend the office for committee meetings.

About the role:

Main responsibilities of the role include:

• Preparation and management of trustee meetings, including agenda creation, logistics, and recording minutes
• Organising and administering governance documentation and legal requirements
• Advising the Governance Committee on compliance and best practices
• Supporting the Chair, Committee Chairs, and trustees in their roles
• Managing the charity’s registration, governance record-keeping, and correspondence with regulators
• Ensuring DEI principles are embedded in governance practices

To be considered for the role you will have the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

• Strong understanding of charity governance and the legal framework surrounding it
• Experience in facilitating effective meetings and working with diverse stakeholders
• Proficiency in IT systems, particularly Microsoft Word and Outlook
• Excellent written communication skills
• Commitment to the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion
• Demonstrable experience of meeting tight deadlines and managing trustee business-related paperwork to a high standard
