Community Engagement Coordinator - Wales
Location: The role will be based out of the BookTrust Offices in Cardiff. BookTrust works in a hybrid and flexible way with an expectation of a minimum of 8 face to face collaboration days per month which could be at the Cardiff office, visiting partners across Wales and on occasions UK wide travel. You will have ideally worked within or across a particular community or region, in outreach or a project within the third sector and be a highly motivated individual with the ability to work and travel unsupervised across multiple projects simultaneously and to work at pace, often to tight deadlines.
A passion to make a difference for children and families with an interest in the benefits of literacy and reading to child development, the value of books, stories and rhymes and the role of parents, carers, and guardians in developing a love of reading would be valuable.

Are you the Youth Project Manager we’re looking for?
Let’s start with the expected bits of the role profile, just so we all know the basics

Why do we need this role?
Anti Racist Cumbria exists to make Cumbria an anti-racist county. That’s our aim. If we’re serious about doing that we need everyone (or more people than not) to want that too, and to work with us to make that happen. And yes, that means we need the young people who live here to be a part of that too.
Your job isn’t to run the projects, although there might be some of that at the the start whilst you get things moving (there’s more about that below), your job is to manage them via actions like:

setting them up

scoping the costings to enable them to happen

working out where the money for this will come from
-
figuring out what the team to run them needs to look like
-
recruiting the young people to be part of them
You’re not a youth worker, you’re a manager of projects that are driven by youth workers and led by young people.
Main duties and responsibilities
Your job will be to build and coordinate projects that the young people want to do in creative ways, and to ensure that the projects meet our aim of becoming an anti-racist county. There is a current team of part time, self employed youth workers who do not work set hours or set days, so a big part of your job will be to work out what you need in terms of people and resources for projects, then work to deliver on that. The projects that you’re overseeing are with, and for, young people, so sessions will naturally take place during evenings, possibly at weekends, during school holidays and sometimes overnight (residentials) in a variety of settings. So you will need to be prepared for varied and often unsociable hours when projects are forming and during their life spans.
It’s also important to understand that although this is a project management role, initially as you start out, it will inevitably involve meeting and engaging with lots of young people. As projects begin to be created you’ll therefore need to be a key part of the delivery team and working directly with the young people. That means you will be delivering for a while as you get things off the ground, but longer term we envision you stepping back from direct delivery once things are up and running smoothly. So if working directly with young people is NOT your thing, even for a short period of time, this isn’t the role for you. Equally if working directly with young people and ONLY working directly with young people is your bag, again this job isn’t for you.
You will need:

the ability to manage a team of youth workers and build a foundation based on what good teamwork looks like. You will need to figure out who your team are, what skills they have or don’t have and what they will and can do: whilst assessing what else you might need in terms of support to develop your projects, including further recruitment of staff and volunteers

to be able to work evenings, weekends and during school holidays yourself and take part in residentials too

to get to know the young people who are already involved in ARC youth projects (we have Young Black ARCtivists/TikTok project running at the moment and our Living Whilst Black Youth project is currently on hold but we’d like to see that reinstated in whatever way they young people would like). You’ll find out more about them and develop a relationship with them, as well as strengthening their relationships with the existing youth work team

to spend a good amount of your time scoping, exploring and investigating to begin to find out what’s already out there, who is doing what, where and how, and to form new relationships across broad spectrums of Cumbria’s young people

to support a programme of projects, ensuring anti-racism is embedded throughout, but at the same time remembering that projects need to engage and meet young people where they are at - with an asset-based approach that puts them at the centre of the work, not a ‘this is what we’re doing’ one. Your
job is to ensure you and your team amplify their voices, voices which often go unheard or un-listened to, it’s not be their voice per se

to recognise that it's also important to ensure that whilst the ARC youth programme places young people first, there is no adultification here, projects are youth led, informative, challenging…and fun.

to bear in mind that all of this is going to take money, so you will need to apply for small funding pots (and manage the budgets for these yourself) and with the support of the CEO, apply for larger funding pots which you will manage along with the Digital and Ops Manager

to recognise that your team will look to you for safeguarding and welfare of children responsibilities, so you will need to know what your duties are, stay up to date yourself and ensure you keep your youth work team up to date too. You’ll also need to think about how you deal with issues that might arise during projects and sessions delivering on projects

Person Specification
You will need to be extremely passionate about anti-racism; we are under no illusions that engaging in anti-racist practice exposes activists (and you will need to be an activist) to an increasingly profound awareness of white supremacy, structural racism and other intersecting structured systems of inequity (i.e. sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism). As such you’ll need to evidence and demonstrate your own anti-racist journey.
Passion about this work isn’t enough on its own; you need to believe in young people and what they bring to the party, and you need to be creative and high achieving (but not necessarily in a qualifications way). To be our Youth Project Manager you should be knowledgeable and have the following qualities, skills and experience:

Shannon Trust are delighted to be working with His Majesty’s Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS) to provide peer-led literacy and numeracy programmes across a number of prisons. We now have the opportunity to provide a service at HMP New Hall. Working closely with the prison and their staff, people in prison, Shannon Trust volunteers and mentors, this post will lead the delivery and development of our literacy and numeracy programme at HMP New Hall, maximising opportunities for people in prison to learn to read.
Ideally you will have some experience of prison settings underpinned by the ability to build relationships and personal qualities that include resilience, determination and a problem-solving approach.
This role will be prison-based. About this exciting opportunity
Working as part of a multi-agency team, you will provide person-centred support to a caseload of service users who will either be serving community sentences or being released from prison. You will undertake assessment and action planning with individual service users, create a safe and trusting environment, using trauma-informed practice to successfully facilitate a supportive and constructive relationship with service users, plus deliver a range of interventions to service users which contribute towards achievement of prescribed outcomes.
We will also count on you to develop and maintain positive working relationships with external agencies, including probation, prisons, partners, and others who will assist in achieving prescribed outcomes for service users, ensuring you work towards contractual targets and outcomes within agreed timescales. Using agreed CRM databases and recording all activity relating to caseload and providing updates and reports are also key duties.
What we are looking for
- Experience working with partner agencies either as part of a multi-agency team working towards common objectives or negotiating to establish links to further the aims of a project
- L3 in Advice and Guidance or equivalent
- The ability to assess clients’ needs and provide tailored, client-led support through action planning and interventions involving advice, guidance, advocacy, and coaching
- An ability to work sensitively with clients applying trauma-informed strategies
- Impressive IT, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written.

About the role:
We work within a coordinated partnership response to violence against women and girls as part of the Angelou Partnership. Within the partnership ADVANCE provides independent domestic abuse advocacy and support for women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.
The IDVA will work within a dynamic, fast paced, crisis intervention, advocacy, and support service to ensure the voice of survivors informs every stage of the process specialising in working with clients at high risk. They will work within the team to make proactive contact and provide high quality advocacy and support based upon a client led needs and risk assessment to women from aged 13, focusing on working with those aged 18 and over who access the domestic abuse service. They will advise women on criminal justice and civil remedies and related matters, support women to attend court where necessary, and coordinate the provision of multi-agency support. Part of the role will to be to establish positive, proactive, and innovative working relationships with services providing services to clients and partner agencies within the Angelou Partnership. As a Core IDVA will work across the boroughs mentioned above, under the guidance of the team leaders and project manager.
To be successful as the Core IDVA you will need the below experience and skills:
To be successful as a Core IDVA, you’ll need to have an excellent understanding of domestic abuse and its effects on women and children and of best practice within the domestic abuse sector. As an experienced domestic abuse advocate who has worked with complex and multiple needs, you will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis. Experience of direct work with female survivors of domestic abuse, of supporting women involved in mental health services, and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision.

This post will support the delivery of the Local Delivery Pilot, based in Colchester. Essex Pedal Power allows eligible residents, including adults and children, to apply for a new FREE quality bicycle. The inclusive programme aims to make cycling accessible for everyone providing access to employment, training and educational opportunities or key local services. The project builds on the successful pilot already running in Jaywick and Clacton and is part of a wider roll out in Essex. It will distribute 725 bikes in Colchester throughout 2023-2025 and if successful, will be rolled out to further areas within Essex.

About the Role
Essex Pedal Power is a flagship programme led by Essex County Council and Active Essex to support more people in deprived areas to cycle by removing the main barriers to cycling. This post is part funded by the Sport England Local Delivery Pilot (LDP) for Essex. You will lead our Essex Pedal Power team in Colchester working collaboratively to maintain an overview of engagement and impact whilst seeking to maximise opportunities for partnership development. We are looking for an individual with experience of positively leading teams to deliver successful outcomes.
You will report directly to the Community Development Manager.
Main Duties
1.Manage the operational delivery and development of the Essex Pedal Power programme with a focus on collaborating with communities and partner organisations in the design and delivery to promote active citizenship and physical activity.
2.Monitor the budget to ensure outcomes are met.
3.Develop and maintain a strong delivery team made up of bike mechanic and project support staff, and a team of volunteers ensuring the team have access to development opportunities and support on a one to one and team basis.
4.Devise, understand and use asset-based community development approaches to community development and work with your team/communities to understand priorities and co-design initiatives. Ensure that delivery mitigates or removes the barriers to participation.
5.To evaluate impact and outcomes of projects to provide organisational learning and feedback for funders and stakeholders.
6.Lead on the implementation of the delivery plan in collaboration with a wide range of partners, to arrange for logistics of bike allocations and storage.
7.Administer an admin system to manage participant applications, eligibility and queries of those in the community eligible to receive a free bike.
8.Co-produce the project with the local communities and locally trusted organisations and ensure continuous engagement and communication to ensure that eligible citizens receive a good quality experience.
9.Work closely with Active Essex communications team to undertake effective communication with applicants, stakeholders, and partners. Ensure all communications and marketing aligns with the Essex Pedal Power branding guidelines.
10.To support the development of informal and formal cycling groups and clubs. Organise ongoing events to bring the recipients of bikes together and build a community cycling culture and togetherness.
11.Working closely and engage with; volunteers, citizens, partners and staff in joint design and collaborative planning. Ensure that the design and delivery of the project and future initiatives are in line with aspirations of the priority communities. Ensure all volunteers are safeguarded and supported through the use of the TAWS volunteer management system.
12.Co-ordinate frequent cycle training sessions and bike maintenance sessions for bike recipients.
13.Develop a pool of qualified freelance learn to ride instructors and Ride Leaders to deliver local training and led rides.
14.Using innovation to encourage the uptake and increase of cycling. Ensure that the outcomes of the project support collaborative outcomes with citizens and other partners.
15.Play a key role in the monitoring and evaluation plan, through collecting, analysing and sharing data (quantitative and qualitative) working with the Active Essex Evaluation Researcher for Essex Pedal Power and with TAWS Data & Insight team.
16.Ensure that all health and safety requirements are understood by staff and complied with on a consistent basis; lead and maintain the development of a risk management culture within the team to ensure that innovation and delivery is balanced with citizen safety.
17.Produce oral and written reports on engagement level, activity delivery and the development of new programmes / projects.
18.Support with recruitment of sessional staff, external instructors and volunteers to resource projects and to develop community capacity and sustainable outcomes.
19.Carry out all other duties as maybe reasonably assigned from time to time and with the level of this Job Description.

This is a new and exciting role in Refuge, the post holder will be embedded within district borough housing teams to facilitate dual working that will ensure that survivors’ safety and housing needs are met. The housing advocate will be collocated within the council offices of their designated area to help facilitate:
- Close working relationships with Housing colleagues
- Provision of specialist knowledge relating to DA for Housing Officers and Homelessness Teams to draw on
- Specialist support for survivors at the moment of crisis
- Provision of advocacy; supporting survivors to access safe accommodation
- Joint working with the IDVA or Domestic Abuse Outreach services to ensure all the survivors’ needs are met.
This recognizes that many survivors will approach Housing at moments of crisis, when they are either considering fleeing, or have already fled.
The housing advocate will carry a caseload of survivors that require additional support. They will work closely with survivors of domestic abuse from the point of crisis, to provide high quality independent advocacy around housing needs.They will empower survivors by providing them with emotional, practical and individual safety support. They will ensure that survivors are provided with a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, enabling them to access their rights, make decisions and increase their life options.
Co-located housing advocacy is another form of community-based specialist domestic abuse advocacy support that focuses on victim/survivors’ self-identified needs, rather than needs defined by the service and any pre-defined actions the agency thinks victim/survivors should take. The work is undertaken with the victim/survivor around their individual needs and for a period dictated by need, not targets.

As an Employment Coach with our Employcare Project you will be supporting unpaid carers living in Manchester; providing support and coaching in order for them to re-enter paid employment or voluntary roles. The successful candidates will manage a small caseload of carers and provide them with 1:1 support, helping them overcome barriers to employment and training. You will be responsible for supporting them through every stage of their journey, enabling participants to address their barriers and realise their aspirations.
This role is subject to a Basic DBS check.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteering Promotion and Support
Promote volunteering to residents, VCS groups, statutory sector, and local businesses.
Ensure access to volunteering opportunities for residents from hard-to-reach communities or isolated areas.
Coordinate regular training and events to promote volunteering benefits.
Run drop-in sessions at various outreach locations within Ealing and Hounslow.
