The DIP Research and Development Officer will be a member of the Diocesan Strategic Development Unit working specifically on researching and developing different workstreams for this exciting new progamme as it starts and also contribute to the existing strategic development funded projects coordinated through the Strategic Development Unit.

THE ROLE
• This is a key role in the Northern Ireland Outreach team that will focus on delivering woodland conservation activity and advice including creation, establishment, restoration of ancient woodland and agroforestry to landowners and on land outside the Trust’s own estate.
• The Woodland Outreach Advisor will provide appropriate advice and partnership development with landowners and other organisations to ensure trees and woods are an integral element of plans within prioritised landscapes and focus efforts where this delivers greatest benefit.
• Establish and maintain relationships with landowners to inform and advise them on all aspects of our conservation approach to trees and woodland management, particularly ancient woodland management and restoration, as well as new woodland establishment.
• Manage contractors and consultants to deliver landowner engagement, advice and support on the Woodland Trust’s behalf, taking responsibility for ensuring quality of work and cost effectiveness.
• Competency to oversee the fulfilment of duties of Forest Works Manager delivered through contractors.
• Interacting directly with landowners to complete site surveys, assessments, reports and recommendations to deadlines, ranging from small scale planting schemes to larger, landscape scale woodland creation projects, innovative agroforestry schemes, and assessment of ancient woodland restoration projects.
• This role requires the successful candidate to attend the Bangor Office twice a week.
• An Electric Vehicle Company Car will be provided for this role.
THE CANDIDATE
• You’ll need experience working in the land management sector, preferable in forestry or woodland conservation, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders. Mainly advising farmers, land managers and landowners on farmland and habitat management with a working knowledge of land management practices.
• You’ll have experience in delivering woodland and hedgerow creation, ancient woodland restoration, woodland management and establishment, both practically on the ground, and through advising others.
• You’ll have an understanding of agri-environment, landscape and woodland restoration & creation grants (Small Woodland Grant Scheme) including understanding the smaller grant schemes such as the Trust’s MOREwoods scheme, as well as non-governmental support mechanisms and regulations.
• You’ll be a great communicator, being able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, inspiring others to protect, create and restore woodland. You’ll have a collaborative working approach, sharing learnings, experiences and innovation.
• The role is based in Northern Ireland and will require travel to sites and offices. A driving licence will be required.

To support the delivery of quantitative or technical components of projects within the Research and Analysis (R&A) team and to contribute knowledge, data analysis and research skills to a range of CSE projects across all teams.
Pay and conditions
- The role is full-time 37.5 hours per week.
- The salary for the role will be £27,121-£32,486 per year.

Specific responsibilities
An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:
- Support research and technical projects or activities using data analysis, statistical analysis, modelling and mapping tools (both in-house and external) or other quantitative techniques.
- Produce high quality written material for reports and other publications by summarising key research findings, presenting effective visualisation of data and producing well evidenced research findings.
- Communicate outputs effectively to internal team members and support the communication of outputs to external stakeholders.
- Ensure project data is well organised and appropriately stored and shared in line with any legal and ethical requirements.
- Apply appropriate and reproducible analytical methods.
- Be a proficient user of Excel and other data analysis tools (such as R, SPSS, SQL, Python, GIS, QGIS)
- Continuously improve research and analysis skills through online training, knowledge sharing within the R&A team, and mentorship from senior staff.
- Contribute to the method write up in research bids or consultancy proposals.
- Contribute to one or more of CSE’s strategic work programmes (see Organisational Strategy 2024-28), supporting idea development and impact activities.
Essential attributes for this role include:
- A degree level qualification or equivalent in a relevant field (for example energy, economics, STEM subjects, social science or data analytics).
- Experience of managing, cleaning, processing and analysing data using Excel and tools such as R, SPSS, etc.
- Experience of writing up research outputs and effectively communicating complex issues.
- Ability to write high quality research reports and publications with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to present research findings in accessible and compelling ways for a range of audiences.
- Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage own workload.

As a member of our senior leadership team, reporting to our chief executive, you will manage, lead and develop our support and development team, with nine passionate and knowledgeable staff.
Your job is to ensure the team excels and thrives in its work supporting and developing our membership to increase its impact, in line with our strategic goals and members’ locally-determined plans and ambitions. This includes nurturing togetherness, positivity and innovation, ensuring strong collaboration with our other teams, external partners and funders, and bringing new opportunities into community rail, while sharing its insights and experiences.

Main responsibilities:
- Manage, lead, support and develop our support and development (S&D) team, ensuring effective delivery and performance against our aims, objectives and plans, and ensuring the team’s work is well-planned, coordinated, evidenced and reported;
- Lead on the development, delivery and regular review of a strategy and annual plans, targets and budgets for the S&D team, engaging the team and our funders effectively in this process, drawing on member, partner and Board input, and aligning with our overarching strategy;
- Nurture a member-orientated, empowering, positive approach in the S&D team, in line with our values, ensuring high-quality provision of support, advice and signposting, balancing proactiveness and responsiveness, and being attentive to members’ needs and input, as well as wider contexts and opportunities;

- Play a key role in our liaison with and reporting to our own funders, and other major funders of our members, including ensuring effective monitoring and evaluation of our S&D work, collating good evidence of our own and our members’ impact, and maintaining a robust awareness of and ability to advocate on opportunities and risks in community rail;
- As a member of our senior leadership team, work closely with senior colleagues and across the organisation, and liaise with our Board as relevant, to co-ordinate and manage the delivery of our overarching strategy, reinforce our values, ensure the whole team is engaged with our mission and purpose, and to show external leadership across our members, partners and beyond.
Skills and competencies:
- Strong leadership and management skills, including a track record in managing, developing, drawing on and getting the best from a multi-faceted team, and working in and driving positive change in a complex, rapidly-evolving environment;
- Significant experience and demonstrable experience in community engagement and community-led projects, ideally from both professional and voluntary positions, and ideally experience in supporting and advising community initiatives;
- Experience in successfully planning, developing, delivering and evaluating programmes with positive social outcomes, including reporting to funders;
- Experience working collaboratively and forming mutually-beneficial partnerships and professional networks, ideally with experience of developing corporate partnerships and/or funder relationships;
- An understanding of how to evidence and increase social impact, particularly in relation to community development, empowerment and sustainability;
- Awareness of and a strong commitment to community empowerment, social inclusion, social justice and sustainable development, with a good grasp of the importance of public transport and sustainable travel, and community-led action, to these agendas;
- Excellent communication skills, articulate and assertive, with the ability to work constructively, diplomatically and persuasively with stakeholders at all levels and handle challenging situations;
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while dealing with competing priorities, and an evidenced ability to support a team to do so;
- IT literate and competent using Office applications, the internet and CRM/database/recording systems;

Other information
As you will be home-based and managing a dispersed team, we are flexible about your location. However, you will be expected to travel to our office in Huddersfield for in-person full-team meetings quarterly, and you will need to bring your team together at a central location with similar regularity in between. On top of this, attendance at occasional in-person events and partner meetings, and visits to members to learn more about community rail and assist the team, will be important. We therefore welcome applications from those with decent public transport links, not too far from a railway station to enable journeys to be made sustainably.
This is a full-time position, 37 hours per week. We use a flexi-time system, with the core hours 10am-3pm, and we are committed to being a flexible, supportive and understanding employer. This is a permanent position with a probationary period of six months.

This exciting new role will be based in HMP Bronzefield and will support in developing referral pathways for women and work in partnership with different departments and services within the prison as well as those in the community. You will co-design an action plan with women accessing support, enabling you to support them to address their accommodation, finance, debt and benefits and health needs and any risks in relation to the interventions identified, as they prepare for release. The role will involve a combination of casework-based approach with delivery of programmes and courses, along with a signposting and advice service for the women in custody.
You will have demonstrable experience and understanding of working with women in a challenging multi-agency environment, ideally working with prisoners and/or their families.
You will build strong relationships with the Pre Release teams to ensure clients are able to maintain or access suitable accommodation, finance, benefits and debt, family and social inclusion support including negotiating terms on behalf of the women. Ensure that interventions are responsive to and meet the needs of women from diverse and minoritised backgrounds. This, together with referrals to wider partner organisations in the community, will ensure additional support needs are addressed post-release and continuity of support exists.
A car may be desirable for this role, though not essential
About You:
To be successful as the Advance Specialist Prison & Probation Advocate you will need the below experience and skills:
Knowledge and experience of the criminal justice system obtained through academic study, experience of working in the criminal justice system (or closely associated social system).
The ability and experience as a caseworker delivering gender specific and trauma responsive interventions which support resettlement and rehabilitation of female adults in the criminal justice system whether in the community or in prisons.
You will possess excellent organisational skills, excellent communication skills and be able to work in a prison environment whilst remaining calm.
Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of managing a caseload including maintaining and updating records, remaining focused on action plan goals, and keeping to deadlines
You will have the ability to complete trauma informed, support and action plans in collaboration with the woman; to support in addressing their multiple and individual needs and enable them to engage with services, which will result in timely and prescribed outcomes being achieved.

About the role

· Establish new Peer Support Groups across a diverse range of communities
· Supervise a small team of Peer Support Development Officers

The successful candidate will:
- Be either fully qualified, or part-qualified and studying towards a recognised accounting qualification.
- Experienced in charity accounting, whether that is directly working in a charity or through auditing charities.

This role is central, as you will be providing overall day-to-day operational support for the Network. The Network is a collaboration founded in 2020 by NHS Blood and Transplant, Kidney Research UK, and the British Transplantation Society. In this unique role, you will have a fantastic opportunity to develop your coordination, communication and collaboration skills as you work with patient groups, researchers, transplant surgeons, funding bodies and industry. It is not necessary for you to have previously worked in the field of transplantation.
Kidney Research UK acts as the host of this collaborative network. This means that while your line management arrangements will be via Kidney Research UK, your day-to-day work you will be to work closely in support of the two UKODTRN Co-Directors and Deputy Directors, one of whom is a patient leader and transplant recipient, and the other is a transplant surgeon. The scope of the Network covers all donated and transplanted organs. This is referred to as a ‘pan-organ’ approach.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Solicitor to join the Cancer Research Horizons (CRH) team. In this role you'll advise a range of internal clients across CRH on a broad range of life sciences-related activities. This will include drafting and negotiating complex life sciences agreements, strategic alliances and partnerships, collaborations and licensing activities, as well as working with our Commercial Partnerships team to support spin-out companies and their route to IPO. You'll make a significant contribution to the management and delivery of the legal function within CRH, e.g. delivering training, mentoring other team members and developing links with external counsel as appropriate. This is a contract role for 12 months covering maternity leave.
What will you be doing?
Work independently to provide timely, proactive, pragmatic, high quality and commercial legal advice and solutions to the organisation
Develop a strong understanding of CRH's business areas, building excellent working relationships across CRH and CRUK, as well as with internal and external clients
Oversee the reviewing, drafting and negotiating of a broad range of legal agreements relating to collaborative research and the protection and commercial exploitation of intellectual property
If requested, line manage and mentor staff within the legal team. Ensure delivery of operational goals and service excellence and develop staff so that they can operate increasingly independently
Promote the team and its role within CRH, CRUK and among stakeholders
Proactively identify, monitor, address and report on legal and regulatory developments of particular impact to CRH
Make contributions to broader strategic discussions
Keep abreast of legal developments, sharing relevant insights within the legal team and contribute to legal know-how resources
Advise on spin-out activity and drafting and negotiating relevant agreements
Plan and deliver on project-related goals as part of a "deal-team" or other project team
Deliver legal training sessions to business managers and others
Review and update template agreements
Provide ad-hoc advice in relation to various legal issues
If required, instruct and manage external legal advisers
Assist CRUK in formulating policy in relation to its translational research activities and intellectual assets
What skills are we looking for?
Degree level qualification in law with relevant qualification either as a solicitor or barrister or equivalent overseas (common law) qualification
Significant experience in an in-house or private practice role
Excellent working knowledge of commercial law and best practice; intellectual property law (particularly patents)
Much of what Cancer Research's scientists and deal-doers do is cutting edge and bespoke - a willingness to work collectively with others in new areas, to assess risk and determine a sensible way of doing things to achieve Cancer Research's goals
Track record of successfully negotiating and drafting a wide range of agreements (especially with an intellectual property dimension, including high value and complicated licence and collaboration agreements)
Ability to demonstrate a good understanding of company law and the regulatory environment relating to life sciences and pharmaceutical product development
Understand, or be able to demonstrate an aptitude to understand quickly, the context in which CRH's business operates and the needs and sensitivities of its stakeholders and have the skills and commitment to network to improve these and support the development of CRHs' business
Passion to contribute an important part in advancing discoveries to beat cancer
