The Chief Operations Officer (COO) will play a critical role in the overall strategic and operational leadership of the Foundation. You will oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment with the organisation’s mission and goals. The COO will work closely with the Founder and the senior team to drive organisational success and implement strategies that enhance the foundation's impact.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Strategic Development: Collaborating with the founder to develop long-term strategies that advance the foundation’s mission and goals. Ensuring that all operations are aligned with strategic objectives, making adjustments as necessary to respond to changing circumstances.
- Program Execution: Overseeing the execution of all child poverty, domestic abuse and restoration programmes.
- Operational Policies: Developing and implementing operational policies and procedures to enhance productivity and compliance.
- Audit and Budget Management: Working with finance to develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring all expenditures are aligned with organizational goals.
- Fund Development: Overseeing income generation and fundraising strategies
- Program Innovation: Leading the development of new programs and the enhancement of existing programs to better serve the community.
- Team Management: Leading, mentoring, and developing a high-performing team, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
The successful candidate will have experience in operations management, ideally within a small foundation and a proven track record in strategic planning and execution, with a focus on operational efficiency and effectiveness. Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and resource management is a must, alongside excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. At least 5 years in a senior leadership role is key and a real and committed passion for social justice and equity is essential.

About the Role
The Corporate Partnerships Executive joins an energised and committed community team with significant ambitions for developing and sustaining relationships with new and existing supporters, through fundraising and corporate partnerships. Job purpose
This is a pivotal role created to support an ambitious £80m fundraising appeal that will culminate in the creation of the new Royal Free London Cancer Centre.
The RFL, is one of the busiest cancer services in London, combining local care for a population of 2.5m with specialist services relied on by patients from all over the UK and beyond. By 2030, the number of people diagnosed with cancer in north central London is forecast to increase by 42% to 66,000 as the population ages.
The RFL urgently needs to increase its diagnostic, treatment, research and development capacity to meet the needs of our patients. In response, the Royal Free Charity is preparing a major fundraising appeal to support:
- the capital costs for the construction and equipping of a dedicated centre
- the delivery of cancer-related support services.
The campaign communications manager will support the activities of our fundraising directorate in the private phase (Autumn 2024 onwards) and the launch of the public phase of our appeal in early 2026.
The postholder will be responsible for developing and executing strategic communication plans to engage philanthropists, existing supporters, grateful patients, stakeholders and the public. It promises to be a varied and rewarding role in a small but highly collaborative and friendly team.
The role will report to our head of communications and work closely with the campaign director and colleagues in our fundraising directorate and with key clinical leads in the RFL.
The role is ideally suited to someone who is comfortable working across strategic planning and operational delivery, relishing the opportunity to translate plans into activity.
Engagement and communications department
The communications team is responsible for keeping our supporters and local residents informed about the difference we make to the patients and staff of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
We celebrate achievements and promote the charity and its successes to the world. We manage our digital presence through a range of channels including our website, our social media platforms and email marketing.
The objectives of the post are to:
- develop and deliver the overarching communications and engagement plan for the cancer campaign
- work with the campaign director and colleagues in our fundraising directorate to support the development and delivery of donor-specific communication plans
- work with the campaign chair and campaign board members to promote the campaign in sectors where they are seeking to raise significant funds i.e. tech, finance, banking, media etc
- work with the campaign director and relevant agency to produce campaign materials and ensure the patient voice is represented in the appeal
- embed and champion the campaign brand to ensure consistency across all communications
- develop and maintain a campaign web presence, ensuring it is regularly updated with relevant content

Building relationships with other statutory and non-statutory agencies in local communities is vital to build referral pathways and provide a whole system approach to supporting individuals.
To carry out this work you will meet women in the community in your designated borough and co-locate with other agencies including the National Probation Service, as well as regularly attending Advance’s North London vibrant Women’s Centre/office space.
You will be a creative self-starter who will support the service and look for innovative solutions to support clients with complex needs. You are confident professional relationship builder and has good awareness of Safeguarding procedures. Strong Administration skills and understanding of compliant behaviours also experience of supporting. With good knowledge of the criminal justice system and awareness of other support provisions within the North London area.

To be successful as the Domestic Abuse Housing Advocate you will need the below experience and skills:
You will bring solid experience of supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse in all its forms; coming from a sector with transferrable skills or possess a feminist/VAWG degree and be keen to learn and to train on the job. You will have a good understanding of violence against women and girls with a particular focus on the dynamics of domestic abuse (physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, so-called ‘honour-based violence’, forced marriage, stalking and harassment) and its impact on women, children, families, and communities. You will have proven skills and experience in conducting comprehensive assessments of needs and risk for survivors experiencing domestic abuse, including carrying out short risk management and safety planning. We will expect that you have experience in assessing the needs and safety of any children that women using the service may have and an understanding of the criminal justice system and relevant legislation with regard to legal and civil options, housing, benefits, matrimonial and children. Lastly you will bring your knowledge of safeguarding practice, procedures, and legislation.
With many skills and qualities to add to this role, if you have good IT literacy, data collection and monitoring these skills are maximised in your role. About the Role
The Special Events Lead role manages the organisation’s special events from start to finish, raising the visibility of the charity, building relationships with prospects and securing income for the Children’s Hospital and the Cancer Hospital.

The National Saturday Club, founded by Sir John and Lady Sorrell through The Sorrell Foundation in 2009, plays a crucial and distinctive role in the educational landscape for young people aged 13-16. The charity which is operating UK-wide, has seen significant growth in recent years and we are committed to continuing to expand our programme to reach even more young people. With this growth comes increased operational and financial complexity necessitating an expansion of our leadership capacity. To support these efforts, we are seeking a full-time Chief Operating Officer to oversee and lead our organisation’s financial and operational functions.
We are looking for someone who will bring strategic vision, dynamism, and an ethos of innovation and creativity. The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with a track record of achievement at a senior level. You will be an experienced, visible and inspiring leader, championing the difference that strong financial and operational management can make to our front-line activities and sharing our passion for equity in extracurricular educational opportunities for young people.
Since its inception, the National Saturday Club has evolved into a nationwide movement offering free extracurricular education. Our programme places young people at the heart of a vibrant network of world-class professionals from education, the cultural sector and industry, all of whom are dedicated to helping young people achieve their full potential. In recent years we have expanded our network from 74 Saturday Clubs in 2021 to over 100 in 2024, with a target of 140 by 2025-26 and an ambition to reach 180 clubs by 2026-27. To meet the demands of this growth, we have also doubled our staff, with a team of 20 this year. This expansion is made possible by a growing network of funders and supporters who recognise the transformative impact of our work.
This new role of COO will be responsible for finance, data and IT, risk management, legal, HR and culture and premises, including oversight on all operational areas including health and safety, and safeguarding You will also provide focused financial and operational long-term planning, strategic leadership and, as we grow, cultivate a culture that reflects our values and is rooted in equity, diversity and inclusion.
The postholder must provide outstanding strategic leadership in the areas of financial sustainability and operational process: to support the staff team and the organisation to deliver on its ambitious growth strategy; to meet the expectations and needs of its beneficiaries, partners and funders; and to ensure the organisation’s approaches and processes support the delivery of the programme and facilitate the engagement of the external network of educators and partners across the UK.
